“Car-pedestrian collisions are on the rise in Halifax, soaring 70 per cent from January to September, compared to the same period last year.”

I know the drivers vs cyclists and pedestrians issue is getting very tired and excessively bitched about but the latest stats in the Herald are very damning – especially for male drivers (of which I am one):
“Males — despite making up only about 48 per cent of drivers in Halifax — were behind the wheel in 68 per cent of car-pedestrian collisions.”

Dudes, we (myself included) need to be more patient behind the wheel. And everyone (the gals included) needs to stop sneaking looks at their phones while driving.

For example, I thought the dude on Brunswick this morning (driving a redish brown Dodge) had passed away when we stopped at an intersection. His head fell forward immediately and for a moment or two he didn’t react when the light turned green. I almost dialed 911 to get him some CPR!. But it truns out he was just messing with something on his lap. A phone perhaps? —Full of beans

And they also need to stop trying to play the banjo!

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

P.S. Is the Mod taking a commission on those “fashionfast” advertisements? Would she cut me in?

I can’t fault anyone for trying to make a few extra bucks for Christmas. And I hear the Amway and Mary K markets are saturated. So good luck to the mod with his/her sideline. &->

    DISINGENUOUS AND DISRESPECTFUL

Your comment will no doubt put you in the Mod’s good graces but, frankly, I find it “at best disingenuous and at worst disrespectful” (see Ivan Sonofabitch, “Christmas Decorations,” 11/10, 6:37AM). The question, of course, is whether or not one can simultaneously be both disingenuous AND disrespectful. I believe your comment gives unambiguous evidence that, indeed, one can be both.

However, while this was no doubt Ivan’s claim, I find that his contrast between being disingenuous need not be seen as being the “best” in contrast with being disrespectful as being the “worst.” In other words, the contrast requires greater specification in order to achieve a even modicum of validity. I’m sure you agree.

Continuing a recent theme of Haiku:

    mm’s words tumble
    like dominoes from a bag
    and the game begins

Yes, the words “a even” should have been reversed to “even a.” Thanks for that.

In respect to your haiku poem, like so many others on this site it seems you confound the relationship of thought and words. In other words (!) my “words do not tumble like dominoes from a bag” but rather are the distillation of my reflective, structured, and insightful consideration on the matter at hand. They are not free-floating “epiphenomena” (as we say in philosophy) as you seem to suppose but rather bespeak a cognitive achievement which, of course, is more than can be said for your haiku poem.

Yes Bad dog, I think you are absolutely right there, or at least I would do if I understood the “plane inclined black and white” bit. In lother words what, if any, is the significance of it being black and white? Write back soon.

    A pleasure as always.

  6. The solution is so simple…stop crossing the street. If you need to go somewhere that would require crossing streets…take your car (or truck) . if every street was a no crossing , no one would ever get hit . Except of course those breaking the law, illegally crossing the damn street.
