For many years I have seethed with anger over this gross injustice. Why, oh why, is the dime smaller than the nickel? It’s worth more yet it is puny in comparison. A little bit of numismatic history. The 5 cent piece prior to 1921 was half the size of the dime and it was silver. They were so small; people called them fishscales. Now if you have a silver 1921 five piece (the fishscale type); you are taliking serious money. Both versions were made in 1921.
The value of the early silver 5 cent pc is dependent on condition ,
As money in those days actually had value , aka made of good or silve or copper.
The paper money of the time was backed by gold & silver.
