So most recently I saw a posting on a popular website that got my blood boiling. A “friend” is about 103 pounds and about 5’3″ tall, her lastest status was, “Oh I would love to have BK but my diet won’t allow me to.” WTF DIET?? Are you kidding me?! I am not a size 0 and I’m not 200 pounds. I am 5’4″ and am proud to weigh 155 pounds. I am thankful my teenage daughter has me for a role model and not someone like my “friend”. What is wrong with us as a society to think that someone that tiny could possibly need to diet? It is better to look and feel good about yourself no matter what size than to worry about what society and those damn magazines plant into your head! I have already said all of this to her believe me!! —An Average Sized Gal

  1. Maybe they’re on a diet for reasons other than weight loss. BK is really never an appropriate choice unless your goal is to harden your arteries.

  2. sounds like someone should spend less time on the keyboard and more time on the treadmill.

    -just kidding

  3. I think if people in general spent less time talking about/judging other people’s eating habits and body types, we’d all be better off. Whether someone is skinny or fat, dieting or not, is not really anyone else’s business. Your self-righteous outrage is pathetic, OP. Get a life.

  4. meOw.
It is her business when said idiot posts it on her facebook. When someone posts something dumb on their facebook, it is fair game for judgement.

Plus, this person is obviously looking for attention if their posting on their wall that they really want a BK burger, but they just can’t because of their diet. Give me a break and cry me a river. Narcissistic assholes.

  5. I echo what everyone else said about medical reasons to diet, even diabetics have a diet they must follow. If you are that “concerned” perhaps you should look at yourself before you judge others.

  6. I used to work with someone with a health condition where it made her very thin because she had to watch what she ate all the time.

So it could be more than just wanting to lose weight…on the other hand, body dysmorphic disorder is a bitch of a psychological disease, so perhaps you could cut your friend some slack?

  7. chubby woman resent their skinny friends, what a revelation !

How do you know the “diet” doesn’t restrict sodium? maybe she is so skinny because she has kidney problems and cant get all the nutrients from the food she eats.

And before you hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back about what a good role model you are, why dont you stop making Internet post about FB posts….by the way what parent of THAT wrapped up in facebook that a status post gets “their blood boiling”?

lastly, in case you never crack a news paper these days. Most of the county should be on a diet according to the resent stats on obesity. If i do a quick bit of “internet math” I would put that 5’4/155 at about 5’2 and closer to 163-ish?

  8. She might not be using the word ‘diet’ as a verb, but as a noun here. No one should eat BK, I’m 5-8 145lbs male, I wouldn’t touch that crap.

  9. I’m about your height, OB, and between size 2 and 4. A few years ago I went down to a size 0 when I caught a virus that wouldn’t let me keep anything down. I looked like a skeleton. And I got a lot of compliments. It was nasty. Not all the impetus comes from the media — positive weight-loss feedback comes from social interaction too. So good on you for telling your friend your thoughts!

  10. It sounds like they may have been actually referencing the fact that there are actively eating less to lost weight in this case, but it could have been that they just refer to the food they eat as their “diet”. I am trying to gain weight and I say “my diet” sometimes. Just like “the Siberian Tiger’s diet is birds rodents and other mammals”.

  11. Technically you’re overweight. Your BMI is 26.6, the cutoff for overweight is 25. Your friend’s BMI is 18.2. The cutoff for underweight is 18.5. So if you look at the numbers, she is healthier than you. So maybe you shouldn’t be lecturing anyone.

  12. BMI is a useless way to decide obesity or underweight. Using BMI, Arnie and most bodybuilders would be considered obese. I love the Penn & Teller Bullshit spot they did on obesity. The overweight guys pretty well beat those within BMI numbers.

  13. BMI is used as a guideline. It does have it faults and weaknesses. However WHO uses it as a way to measure the obesity statistics in todays society and so when its used to measure the health of people who aren’t body builders, it is deemed acceptable by doctors.

  14. ..oh talk’n to me PG..That’s a still of Hugh Cornwell from the classic music vid. “duchess” ..i put it on cause Hugo trashed the stranglers and I was listening to all their stuff … anywho I was listening to a talk radio guy saying that at last count 28% of Canadians are obese ..holy shit more than one in four ..scary stuff

  15. it must be something in the water o.p., either that, or chick is just plain fucking stupid. 103 pounds, jebus, i could snap her in half with one hand.
anyway, i’m not in a very good mood today, flu and all, so i’m outta here. keep bitchin folks.

  16. …i love me the spud heads.. they played at the olympics… and PG your thinking of the Danforth Music Hall (i was at that show ’79-80 ? ) check out their movie …”the men who make the music ” it’s hilarious/weirdorama 🙂

  17. … that’s the one, thank you for the info marty, the bear was correct. i remember the seats were obstructed but it was great. i think the who might have been in town that weekend…oceansis would know

  18. Hey Marty – our Newt has been off the radar for a while. You heard anything from her on FB? Hope she’s otay.

  19. I read it as if it were a noun….
everyone has a diet, be it good / bad / meat based / veggie based / insect based …

  20. Diet, refers to what and they way you eat. A vegetarian is on a vegetarian diet, but that does not mean they are on a “diet” the way we use the work in pop culture. Some people or on the natural food diet, for health reasons not to lose weight, and under a “diet” like that you could not eat anything that BK sells

  21. From Wikipedia: “BMI was explicitly cited by [Ancel] Keys as being appropriate for population studies, and inappropriate for individual diagnosis. Nevertheless, due to its simplicity, it came to be widely used for individual diagnosis, despite its inappropriateness.”

  22. Your friends doing the updates for attention.

If you’re a mom OB then be a better role model and get your ass off FB stalking. Teach your daughter not to be so childish and let people be who they want to be.

  23. This makes me so mad. I try to eat well because I want to be healthy and not gain weight… I always get people making re-marks about how “you’re not fat!” when I choose light varieties of food or just choose not to eat something. I guess the best way for me to stay a good weight is to eat poorly and then go on a diet when I do gain too much weight? Yeah, ok. Shush up fatties.

  24. Whopper Wednesday! Half price Whoppers.
The locations added extra support to the floors for the influx of obese customers.

  25. You’re right melectric — some of us will always have to watch what we eat no matter what weight we’re at. Just because you’re “thin” or even “skinny” doesn’t mean you can eat like shit all the time because HAY, how do you think these people are thin?

And as we get older our metablisms go down — my very thin cousin told me when she hit 29/30 her metabolism slowed down and she started gaining weight easier…

Eating well and watching our caloric intake is not only for the fatties out there!

  26. what does hay have to do with anything?

your basal metabolism goes down… the remainder is on you to ramp up….
