I attempted to go to the VirginFest, but considering no chairs, no umbrellas, no water, no food… I turned around. I am not young anymore, and sitting on rain-sogged Citadel Hill sipping a $3 bottle of water, getting smacked in the face by some vacant cowboy hat wearing Abercrombie and Fitch clone who’s never heard of Dinosaur Jr until that day wasn’t what I’d call fun.

Canada Day Alderney Gate, now that was a special event. Thirsty for a beer you had to pay $3 cover, cover for what, the chance pay another $5 for a fucking beer? Jesus!

Then Joel P hits the stage and people on lawn chairs are instantly invisible, as the same self absorbed shits with cowboy hats and Aeropostale hoodies stood in front of those seated, oblivious to the fact that they are self centered fucks, screaming on GD blackberries about being at Alderney Landing, as in I am so tapped in, so sad to be you. Can’t hear you, can’t hear you…..

Intelligence continued. A herd of teenage moms were there with their infants, with a tonne of purple eyeshadow and asscrack pants and barely covering boobs tank tops sucking on ciggies, subjecting their kids to ear drum splitting decibels.

Same for the moron yuppies with kids in carry back packs and their two dogs, running around in circles, DOGS HAVE MORE SENSITIVE HEARING THAN HUMANS you stupid shits. Hiring a fucking babysitter/dogsitter, now that’s a concept.

  1. $3 for cover and $5 for a beer? Go to any bar in the city and pay at least $5 cover and $6 for a beer. Sounds like a good deal to me.
If you can’t afford a $3 cover, then you probably have a few more serious concerns in your life to bitch about.

  2. Next year, just get together a couple of classic albums and make a trip to NSLC. Should be the best musical performance you’ve ever attended.

  3. Agree with some of your comments, but please don’t go to an outdoor concert with a lawnchair and expect to see something…

  4. Dogs have a wider range of hearing, but it isn’t more sensitive than ours. Dogs can hear the inaudible hiss coming from the speakers that we cannot hear, but they don’t hear things more loudly than we can.

  5. If you wanted to sit and watch Joel play, you should have gone to see him at the Cohen. At an outdoor concert, particularly one that is free, you should expect to see everything you mentioned. And $3 for cover pays for the tent, the staff and the fence so that the area can be licensed. The municipality used to kick in some dough for that, but they apparently don’t anymore.

  6. It was a free concert open to the public people of all ages, if kids were not permitted they would have stated that.
    RELAX

  7. I agree with some of the OP’s comments, but all bundled together it just kind of makes it sound like you’re the kind of person who never has fun anywhere.

  8. Maybe if you’re this crochety, you should stay the hell home.

Umbrellas would block people’s views. Chairs could tangle shit up. Bring a goddamn tarp to sit on or wear rainpants, good Christ.

  9. I don’t agree with any of OP’s comments, some of which were called out above. But one really gets to me, it’s not one of the main points so bear with me:

Why is it that people get all smug because they’ve heard of bands before other people? People are so fucking snotty about music it drives me nuts. Knowing about a band before someone else knows about a band doesn’t make you special.

    Oh and piss off OP.

  10. um..if you want to sit at a concert, go to the fucking metro center and get some seats there. I personally hate that shit and like to be able to get up and enjoy the band, which is why outdoor concerts rock.

  11. I would suspect that there were parents with kids down there mainly because of the fire works, not the concert.

  12. I have to agree — who brings lawn chairs to concerts with festival seating and expects to see anything? Shit, last concert I went to was at the Air Canada Centre — sold out, around 20 thou. people…and NO ONE was sitting down for the performance (except the two older people beside me…but what they were doing at an NKOTB concert, I’ll never know….probably won tickets because they didn’t seem to be having much fun…you’d probably get along with them quite well, OP).

  13. I am glad I got some reaction from this. Yes the events were free, yes dogs have better range, yes $3 for cover was just that to cover your head, those teen moms were wheeling those kids around all day, yes I am a crotchity old bitch at times, but I like to rant and I am glad there is space to do it. Most of what I listed was tongue in cheek and I am out of the loop and liking it more and more. I can be a hipster at my computer sucking on Cold Beer store brew, being anti-social. Have fun at the McCartney concert!

  14. Um, making my life complete, Bro Tim?

haha, I knew someone would ask me that 😛
