I haven’t felt safe walking to work for the past few weeks. At work, we talk about how shitty they are every day. Word is there is only one contractor handling the sidewalks this winter, where in years past there have been many—each responsible for a specific area. The city needs to spur a bit of competition and award multiple contracts for multiple areas, because there obviously isn’t enough effort going on currently to clear them properly. —Brock E.N. 1. On my walk to work there are waist-high snowbanks on either side of me, leading me to believe that the side walk has been cleared. Don’t expect to see pavement until sometime in April. In the meantime try and understand that it’s wintertime and we live in Canada.

  2. Yeah, there are indeed many contractors.

What a lot of people don’t know is that when the city took over during the sidewalks, they set a whole new standard. The former was to have sidewalks cleared down to bare pavement within 24 hours after the storm. Now, the standard is to clear the sidewalk so that it is passable – that includes having a layer of ice or snow – within 48 hours!

    Lynch mob!

  3. The city must contract out to private companies like they do here in Montreal. The kickbacks to the relevant city official(s) will raise the price a bit but what the hell.

  4. buy some ice grippers that slide over the sole of your boots/runners. (you are not wearing those ridiculous high heeled fashion ‘boots’ are you?)

they are like studded tires for two-leggeds. remember to take them off before walking on marble floors. about 25$. a weeks worth of lattes.

  5. But according to the road clearing Czar they have done a wonderful and amazing job of clearing the streets and sidewalks. And if you complain the Mayor will call you stupid.

  6. Have you seen pics/vids of PEI lately? Shut the fuck up ya bunch of whiners!!!!

  7. Let’s all move to Montréal! MM can show us around, help us get settled, show us who to buy off, and most importantly – amuse us with his commentary! Who’s in?

  8. Once the city offered sidewalk snow removal, everything went south. People have complained far more about the ineffective bobcats than they ever did having to remove their own property’s snow within a 24-48 hour period.

  9. Unless you want to spend significantly higher taxes, be prepared for all the worst winter has to throw at you. Perfect roads and sidewalks are costly to maintain. Just hang in there OP, spring is on the way.
