We’re almost 1.5 months into 2012 and you’ve already taken 11 sick days. Last year you called in sick 23 days during the year. You kicked up a stink when HR asked you to start providing doctor’s notes, so I’m making sure HR sticks to that this year with you. We all know you’re faking. We’ve even seen you at the shopping center on one of your ‘sick days’ looking healthier than a well fed hog. I have enough work to do, and when you are out “sick” I have to cover your office work also. You don’t even thank me! Maybe if you’d live a healthier lifestyle, ditch the chocolate bar and diet cola for a real breakfast, and quit eating at fast food joints every day for lunch, then maybe you wouldn’t be sick all the time. I only wish the company would find a way to fire your clumpy ass and bring in a competent employee to replace you. —Apple a Day

  1. 11 sick days in a month???
ya, she better have mad-cow-influenza-matriculosa-narcolepti-lepracy for that shit.
23 days last year is insane.
    I’m willing to bet she’s salaried….
no-one in their right mind would take that much time off voluntarily if it meant losing all that pay.

  2. Uh is it coming out of YOUR pocket? Perhaps person really is ill or they can’t make it due to the bus strike…Anyway, mind ya business, busy body! She can eat what she wants!

  3. She deserves to be fired no doubt.
Look, if she isn’t capable to do the job, she should be fired.
Too many people abuse what they think are their rights in this country.

  4. I’m not trying to brag, but I average about 1 – 2 sick days a year. She gets more sick days than I get vacation days!

  5. actually, depending on where you work, and type of people around you, i find that very plausable. when i worked at purdy’s wharf, the air there was terrible. all recycled, and not a clean filter in the place. i called in e.p.a., and they did a check, and foud contaminated air in over 75 % of the buildings there. seems the filters were sposed to be replaced once a month, not a year, as they thought there. problem was solved, and everyone stopped missing work. air is a wonderful, if you can recirculate it right.

  6. It is upsetting when someone you work with isn’t doing their part. We don’t always know what health issues people are dealing with. Maybe they are being abused at home or they could be dealing with depression or a mental health issue you can’t see. Yes, sometimes it is just laziness but usually it is something bigger.
At any rate these people just make you look better on appraisal and raise day.

  7. Nora, is this you? Lol i think i may know who this is or if not i know someone who is EXACTLY like this at my workplace…

  8. ..you’re pretty much not allowed to be sick in the resto biz..I’ve been off sick like once in ..idk 20 yrs

  9. That’s ridiculous… If she’s genuinely that sick, then she (or he.. ) should have no trouble getting a note from the doctor. I have chronic pain that i have under control but i still need special seating and desk. And i get notes for that. No issue.

Pfft.. can’t you say something to your superiors? Surely it’s not fair that you’re doing the work of two and being paid for one.

  10. Most places have a limit on sick days even if you are salaried. Like eight or so. So 23? I’d say she must have lost some income through her faking. Pretty slack on the management’s part if she hasn’t been written up.
