Why do some smokers still think it is appropriate to light up wherever they like and blow smoke in the faces of those that choose not to smoke? First of all, it is disgusting and it smells like shit. Second of all, it causes cancer. I don’t care if smokers get lung cancer, but I DO care about my own health. Third of all, it’s AGAINST THE LAW to smoke in a public place and right beside an entranceway. There are SIGNS that tell you not to smoke, so step away!

This bitch is directed toward the bitch at a grocery store in Clayton Park on Friday morning that was smoking directly under a no smoking Halifax by-law sign. People walking down the ramp can’t get away from you, so they are forced to breathe in your disgusting shit-smelling smoke. When I told you there was a sign above your head that says “NO SMOKING” and referenced the halifax by-law, you said “thanks” and continued smoking. Then when I was on my way back, I walked around the ramp so I wouldn’t have to endure the stinky, poisonous bi-product of your disgusting habit and you laughed as I walked by and muttered something under your breath. The people in the restaurant next door knew who you were and said you smoke there all the time. Just wanted to tell you, what a BITCH you are and I hope you get cancer. —Against Smoking that Affects my Health

  1. You know, you COULD whip out your cell and take a picture or a video and tell them you’re posting it on youtube.

Or, do what my mom did last week when some 18/19 year old was smoking in the bus shelter: tell them to scram.

  2. Wishing someone gets cancer is plain nasty, OP, and I suspect you have the personality of a disgruntled wharf rat. The world does not revolve around you and people aren’t always going to obey laws. You fucking smoking Nazis have the tolerance of Muslim extremists.

  3. I agree there, TTFN about wishing cancer on people.

30-40-50 years ago smoking was just part of the “culture”…ads everywhere, you could smoke pretty much anywhere, etc…. There was a lot of encouragement to smoke….and smoking is an ADDICTION, so it’s not like you can just stop and be done with it. It takes a lot of work….so what you have are a lot of people who are older boomers or even slightly older than that who started smoking when it was the “in” thing to do and very socially acceptable with cancers and COPD and other smoking-related ailments…and NONE of these people deserve what they’re going through. I worked with enough terminal patients dying from smoking related illnesses to realize these people don’t deserve the shit they’re going through.

Wishing cancer on ANYONE is just plain mean.

  4. Ever notice the staff at the hospital all huddle together in football formation to have a puff. Very entertaining to see how desperate they are for a cancer stick.

  5. Ooooh, ooooh, I get to be a whineeeeer, goody (I started smoking at 13, quit at 30).

Blowing your smoke in my face is disgusting, if I get cancer from your smoke, can I have you charged with aggravated assault? No? Why not? If you give me aids, you can be charged.

The by-product of cigarettes is smoke, the by-product of beer is piss. You smoke, I drink beer. You can blow smoke at me if I can piss on your feet. Show some consideration for others and take your lung-darts elsewhere.

  6. oh fuck no, another anti this or that bitch. walk the fuck away o.p., or are you that fucking stupid as to stand right in front of the person smoking. jesus fuck, you antis drive me more fucking crazy than i already am. why don’t you just use your little fucking peanut brain to move, stay away from, or just shut the fuck up. you anti smoking nazis make me want to walk up to you, and blow big blue clouds of toxicc shit in your smug fucking faces.
learn how to avoid the smoke, not just bitch about it, or better still, go up to said smoker and tell him/her/it, that you want them to put it out, because it harms your poor little nose and body. but before you do, think on the fact that you are out in public, and if a breeze is blowing, even a modest one. there is close to 5,000 cubic feet of air passing between you and smoker at 5 feet distance.
and also remember all the nice wonderful carbon dioxide that you are breathing in from all those cars, trucks, and buses. did you even think of any of that, before writing this bitch. i put a bitch up here last here about the anti smokers and how they should react and fuck off, but i guess you never read it? maybe i’ll just go back and dig for it, and repost it it here tomorrow.

  7. I’m dying to see the math on this one

“and if a breeze is blowing, even a modest one. there is close to 5,000 cubic feet of air passing between you and smoker at 5 feet distance.”

  8. zzz, i guess you never heard tell of a thing called wind, or air currents or how about open spaces. it was figured out about 20 years ago, that a breeze, at 2 klms an hour, displaces something like 5,000 cubic feet of air in proportion to a still air system. and in winter, it creates more displacement, due to more wind/breeze.
it could probly be found somewhere here on the net, not sure what syntax to use to get there, but a check, and a little finesse, should get you what you seek.
i also read, that due to inpending alien attack, in 2012, all non smokers get a free trip to another planet, where they are to be treated to a very fine dinner, them.

  9. wait…… hold on a sec….so you claim something …
and put the onus on me to find the math saying that’s accurate?

how about I call your bullshit until YOU show ME whatever the hell you’re saying has any shred of merit.
The only (and fairly rediculous) way of explaining your preposterous claim is that
“oh there’s a vertical wall 100km high of air between any two objects and so that’s plenty….”
though I doubt people are taking into account atmospheric air over the range of 10 feet off the ground into account.

  10. About the cancer thing; I would wish for certain people to get cancer. Like rapists, murderers and people who abuse animals.

If someone has several cigarettes a day or even just one a day and they get cancer, I will not feel bad for them. Even if someone who smokes in my own family. Of course I would be devastated but this is something that was likely to happen. The people who I would feel bad for are the family and friends that will have to deal with seeing them in pain, sick all the time, and possibly die and have to deal with the loss of someone you love. I guess I’m just mean like that.

  11. zed,

I’ll take a stab at it:

Assume the smoker and the victim are each six feet tall and are standing five feet apart. Assume further that air is moving perpendicular to the plane containing the two individuals at a speed of 5 mph. One final assumption would be that the average cigarette is smoked in five minutes.

    Then we have the following:

The area of the plane between the two individuals is 6 x 5 = 30 sq. ft.

Assuming a wind speed of 5 mph, air will pass through this area at a rate of

    (5 miles/hour x 5280 ft/mile)/60 = 440 ft/minute.

Now, if the average smoke takes five minutes, then the space between the two individuals will see a total flow of approximately

    440 ft/minute x 5 minutes x 30 sq. ft = 66,000 cu. ft.

That’s a lot of air! It follows that the impact of second-hand smoke should be negligible.

Of course, in a still air condition or in an enclosed space like a bus shelter these calculations go right out the window. Likewise, if the air is moving parallel to the plane defined by the individuals the impact of the second-hand smoke would be more severe than in the above case.

There are probably more sophisticated ways to model the airflow between the smoker and the victim, but I think this one works as a ‘back of the envelope’ first approximation.

  12. Thanks, Lifey, I’m as sick and tired of these fucking anti-smoking bozos as you are. The irony will be how many of these whiners will croak of something addicted related – like food, booze, drugs, frog testicles….

  13. c.e. that probly sums it up, but as i said, i read that quite awhile ago. not on the net, but in some magazine or something.
if i could have found the item, i certainly would have posted the link. i’ve been try for the last little while, just to do that. and when i do, it will be posted.
this fucking flu has to go, and the sooner the better. i read that article in a science journal i think, back about 1987 or 88.

  14. as a very down and dirty version, I see what you did there… width = their distance apart, height is the height of the people… and the air passing through that plane becomes the length…. stretching 2200 feet long by the time that last minute is over with.

    interesting…
though completely lab driven since the wind speed would never remain constant nor perfectly uni-directional between two parties…

though given the high quantity potential, I’m only now ready to accept the possibility for Suck’s figure. (Sux, you the commander one)

that also means the entire cigarette’s worth of smoke is in that volume….
I’m curious comparatively, given a busy city street in halifax, the quantity of other toxins in the same volume of air.

  15. Nice Commandante. Having a slow day at the office? but what if the non-smoker was standing downwind? 🙂

  16. Not a slow day at the office. I’m on a layover and my ‘show time’ at the airport isn’t until 3:40 this afternoon.

Aside from getting up early enough to enjoy the hotel’s buffet breakfast and going for a workout in the gym, I haven’t done much else but read and post here. Am I bored?

  17. Could be worse. You could be sitting at the office going out of your tree and looking at another major staff changeover which will negatively affect just about everyone here – but the new boss is too stupid to see it. Sigh. I could totally use a down day for the gym and a leisurely breakfast.

  18. I’m sure OP will get cancer from walking by someone smoking OUTSIDE. Unless you actually have serious asthma or a lung condition of some sort you’re just being a crybaby. If it really pissed you off that much you could have thrown snow in their face and ran away, but no you did jack shit so stop bitchin up a storm.

  19. 1- wishing cancer/injury on someone is bad voodoo.
2- it grosses me out on damp-sidewalk days, like recently, to roll through cigarette butts on the sidewalk/wheelchair ramp and get them stuck on my tires, as they end up on my hands, whether I have gloves or not, and really grosses me the hell out.
I’m cool with them smoking outside(as if it’s my permission to grant), but still get grossed out by the butts on the ground.
    It is what it is.
How do you “toss” a dick? Like tossing a salad?
