From the Lacewood Terminal to the turn off onto Main St for buses headed anywhere (think 42, 17, 52 and some of the express buses) there have been at least three shelters vandalized. The three shelters that I have come across have one back “wall” smashed inward so glass covers the rest of the shelter. So, not only is the shelter useless (and in windy January, thank you), it is also covered in broken glass, which then gets spread around the sidewalk and surrounding area. People walking their dogs must really appreciate that.
I do not understand the point of smashing out bus shelters. If you have something against Metro Transit, take it up with, say, Metro Transit management and/or city council. Not on the bus shelters that are few and far between. It’s stupid, annoying, and a waste of money. —Someone Who Wants to be Sheltered from the Wind/Snow/Rain

  1. its not just there same thing all along the bedford highway. I think i remember reading it was 600 dollars a pane to replace these. This is where the money for new bus routes and more service goes everyone. Sackville is even worse metro transit just stops replacing them because its every night

  2. How about don’t bother putting up bus shelters at all. That’ll save HRM even more money.

Oh the car was nice and toasty warm this morning. Thank you remote starter.

  3. People who do that don’t take the bus. It isn’t against bus riders either, it is just an idiot acting themselves.

  4. Donarious … seriously?!?

OB … it’s one of those things most will never understand … idiots will be idiots and do stupid things. Hopefully, one day, they’ll grow out of it (probably only to be replaced by more idiots) … or at least get busted … because I can’t see how Metro Transit will continue to repair the shelters or leave them standing if they continue to be vandalized.

  5. All along dunbrack too – unfortunate. I drive but I feel bad for people who have to wait and dont have the shelters!

  6. YES, Wheelie!!! YES YES YES! It’s a Donarious/PK tradition and we’re more than happy to include ya! 195 too! He needs to come for the afterwards lunch!!!!!

  7. I don’t think Snubiz knows what opaque means…
and I think the point was that they can’t get translucent enough plexi-glass or something.

  8. Snubiz knows what opaque means. I thought perhaps opaque wouldn’t get all hazy and scratched up looking so fast.

  9. They use glass, so the little darlings can’t set them on fire.

I wonder how many times a bus shelter would have to be vandalized, to justify the cost of security cameras?

  10. or in the very least a silent alarm so that cops nearby could at least try to catch the fuckers…
