To every driver and every pedestrian in the HRM: it’s warm out now, so that means it’s time to share the road with us cyclists. Here are some tips: 1. I am a vehicle. Don’t step off the curb and onto the road in front of me. I still move fast and I can still hurt you if I hit you. And don’t call me a bitch when I have the right of way. 2. I am a vehicle. That means I can be in the middle of the road at intersections when I want to turn. Don’t honk at me to get out of the way. See my arm outstretched like that? It means I’m turning left. 3. I am a vehicle. So if I’m at an intersection with a crosswalk or 4-way stop, I am waiting for you to go ’cause you have the right of way. Don’t wave me by. Thanks–but you’re fucking up traffic by not obeying basic traffic laws.

K, cool… so long as you STAY OFF THE SIDEWALK. Seriously, it’s a sidewalk, not a bike path. It drives me when some moronic hipster on a limited speed bicycle almost clips me because he/she doesn’t have the balls or common sense to ride in the street with the rest of the vehicles.
You are a vehicle. So stay off the mf sidewalk.
Ok OP I totally hear what you are saying BUT I have one beef and that is: When a car is stopped at a red light and you feel it is you right to drive up between cars and plunk your ass in front of me holding me up when the light turns green you can bet I am not going to be happy with you. If you consider yourself a vehicle then wait in the traffic line up like everyone else or you will get the big FUCK YOOOUUUUU.
I agree with the OP and Caity. Nothing bothers me more than any of the points made.
Last year some asshat on a bike nearly slammed into the side of my trunk as I finished rounding a corner because he was FLYING down the sidewalk and tried to cut across the road while I was mid turn. I didn’t even see the crazy person because he wasn’t even within 20 feet of the corner when I started my turn…that’s how fucking fast he was going.
He had the nerve to start swearing and freaking out. I slammed on the brakes (tire screech and all) and jumped out…his manhood quickly departed and he took off like it was the apocalypse on the horizon, which it would have been had he damaged my car or continued to act like the Worlds most self-entitled prick.
He had even almost run over some younger kids (12-15yr old) that were walking perpendicularly (up the street I had just turned onto).
Agreed with most everything said here. Also, cyclists who switch between vehicle and pedestrian to suit their needs i.e. using crosswalks. And the cars that stop for them piss me off just as much. When I’m driving and I see someone biking across a crosswalk, I speed up!
And the amount of cyclists I see not wearing helmets – why aren’t they getting ticketed?
perhaps the sad ass fucking politicians will honour your wishes and make you like any other vehicle and tax and insure the three dog living fuck out of your skinny, pedalling, slimy, pedal pumping, lycra wearing, turd faced existence.
It would be nice when possible for the bicycle to pull close to the curb to let the driver go by. I am a motorist and a cyclist and yes their are moronic rude asshole drivers but their are asshole pompous spandex wearing 2000 dollar bike driving self entitle jerk off cyclist as well. But most of them are nice in my experience and I let them go. When I’m biking I try to hug the curbs when possible and let the cars go buy. If I need to turn I usually just hop off and go to a cross walk not saying that everyone has to do this because it does take more time but w.e
I do what Calico does because I’ve been hit/narrowly hit a few too many times.
I was recently in Toronto and noticed that cyclists there are extremely bold, do whatever they want, yell at cars who cut them off and generally behave like shitty motorists. It is either utopia or hell, depending on your preferred method of transportation.
Hey…consider yourselves lucky….I use to live in a place where shit heads on motorcycles would see you on your bike and think that it would be absolutely fucking hilarious to scare you by swerving to almost hit you. One time a fucker actually hit me, it was around that time that I started carrying a large stick with me and when I heard those fuckers coming from behind getting too close to me, put the stick out. Assholes would see that as they were swerving to get in close to me and get a little scare of their own.
Yeah I’d like to add a 5 to that list the OP made. If a cyclist is approaching an intersection and doesn’t signal they are going straight. Novel concept eh motorists? So don’t cut us off in a lane that goes straight and turns right, we really can’t stop on a dime either.
Why do you people think that any given cyclist has any more control over other cyclists than you guys do on other people in cars? Like those people that stop in front of you to let someone turn left? I don’t have any more control over the cyclist riding on the sidewalk or running a light than you do over that idiot in a car.
Suck it up, cupcakes.
Hey “nevermind”, if I ever hear of a cyclist being run down in a crosswalk I’m going to have to get the owners of The Coast to provide your user info.
Have a swell day, asshole.
Thanks, Cranky. I said I’m a vehicle and stick by it–so I never ride on sidewalks and through crosswalks (unless I’m at an intersection and to cross the intersection means no other choice but going through a crosswalk). Believe me, as a cyclist, I hate cyclists who don’t obey traffic laws just as much as I hate cars and pedestrians who don’t too.
Oh, and I never wear spandex, my bike cost $300, and I always wear a helmet. But yeah, I’m skinny, ’cause I bike everywhere!
And don’t get me started on the lack of bike locks in this city…
If I have my bike, and I’m on my own, I bike on the road like I’m suppose to, but honestly speaking, and being further proven by all the “shitty driving” bitches I’ve seen…when I got the chariot holding my daughter attached to the back of my bike…I’m on the side walk…and if you wankers have a problem with that…well then thats just do dam bad.
I totally agree with bikes staying on the road, but really, sometimes I ride on the side walk. I don’t know how to drive, I don’t know how to read all of the road signs, and I don’t always know how intersections work. I’d rather ride slowly on the side walk and inconvenience a couple of pedestrians then fuck up and get hit by a car or cause an accident because I didn’t understand something.
Also, I’m not in shape yet, and can’t keep up with the cars! Sometimes riding the side walks of side streets is just so much more tempting than being in the way of motor vehicles.
Hey Dizzy, I am a REAL MOTORIZED vehicle weighing in at 3000 lbs or more. I move fast and I can kill you if I hit you so be careful when your slow moving bicycle is on a fast moving highway because there will be no bitching, only daisies pushing up out of your grave while your government death benefit goes to repair scratched paint on said vehicle.
Don’t bitch here, Dizzy. Instead, petition your politicians to create a network of bike paths…. call it a green initiative to create jobs. The law may allow it but, like pedestrians, squeegee kids and other forms of wildlife, you are NOT safe on our highways.
wow…i kinda agree with kay…a lil, more on the petition part…but stilll
I guess the original title, ‘share the road,’ was lost on some of you car-driving assholes. You may be fast, but only in a car, ’cause your car-driving ass is also about 3000 pounds.
wow, I was kinda siding with you there dizzy, but now your just coming off as an egocentric ass. Roads are made for cars, and speed limits on those roads are set for a reason. If you can’t keep up with those speed limits then move the fuck over so that cars that are able to follow them don’t have to slow down to 10 km an hour causing traffic to back up to kingdom Kong. Not saying that you shouldn’t be on the road, I cycle myself…but respect goes both ways
Cars weigh around half a tonne- I weigh 80 kgs. Aside from an astonishing amount of methane I produce I am running pretty green. Cars are the problem. Like smoking, cars are also a hazard to workers who rely on worker’s comp. Outlaw them too.
Sorry folks I am sticking to sidewalks and side streets to get around and I won’t be wearing my helmet either. I’ll try not to put you cart pushing pedestrians out nor you car addicts in a bad situation but you motor head are the lazy-ass potential killers out there. Just because you have a half tonne of protection around you doesn’t give you the right to bully my 80kgs. Slow down- if you are in a hurry you should have left sooner. Better still, walk or ride and get some exercise, you slobs.
When stating that there is a speed limit in place for a reason….there is….car’s can get ticketed for going to slow…Im not bullyin cyclers…like i said…I cycle. But don’t be and asshole and when going straight ride your bike in the center of the lane. And as for discriminating my car use .. How the hell I’m I suppose to get to Dartmouth from the outskirts of halifax, using a fucking bike when I have a two year old child, it takes me over an hour to do it on the bus……cause fuck I must be totally out of my mind or something, but I don’t feel like risking a child’s life out on a busy road. So tell me…how the hell I’m I suppose to get to work/school in order to support that same child financially with out being a “Car Addict”. Trust me bud, if I don’t need to use a car, I won’t. Get mad at GM motherfuckers for burning the perfectly good electric car..which I’m sure if they hadn’t then their would be environmental problems with too.
hahaha,..this is such a funny thread. I bike on the sidewalk for 1km every single morning and i will not ever stop. Why,..well it’s like this,..as you get older, things like personal safety become more important then following moronic traffic laws enacted by fat middle-aged men who can’t see their toes let alone ride a bike. My personal safety is also more important then all the wankers who post on this board with their holier then fucking now attitude,..oh see my car i will kill you little cyclist,..what the fuck? Are you fucking 14 or something?
Actually,..knowing there are so many fucking morons in cars these days is one reason i cycle on the sidewalk for a short stretch each day. And anyone who says i should be on the roads with these people who don’t seem to give a fuck about whether or not their own neighbors and fellow haligonians live or die can fuck off too. Knowing there are young kids out there in cars with apparently no feelings for the people around them is rather disconcerting? And you want me to share the roads with these psychopaths?
So i bike on the road 95% of the time but at certain points i ride on the sidewalk because A) There are maybe 3 pedestrians on the sidewalk (all week) i use and if i meet them, i stop and let them walk by. Geez,..imagine that, a bike and a pedestrian co-existing on the same space,..wow!!
and B) it’s safer for me.
I know, i know,..how insensitive of me,..caring more about my personal safety and wanting to make it home to my son and wife,..then i do about ill-thought out traffic laws. Oh,..i think society is going to come to a crashing fucking halt if i don’t stop it.
Now before you simple-minded twits who only see the world in black and white freak out over my violation of the law,…i’d just like to point out that i’m not talking about a busy sidewalk,..but a street that is empty of pedestrians,..totally. And that’s what amazes me about some of the comments here,..first you have the people whose grasp of basic logic is well,..non-existent. You know the type,.they see one biker not following the rules, no helmet, etc,..and somehow that means that all bikers are like this. I just love that logic,..of course they never apply it to car drivers.
And then there’s the other people who think that all sidewalks are the same,..oookkkk billy,.,..i say you need to get out more and inspect more sidewalks. I know this may be a shock but the sidewalk of Spring Garden Road is not the same in any way to a sidewalk on say,..Wyse Road at 7am. I know, i know,..it’s a law so therefore,…..
Well i’ll tell you the interesting thing about traffic laws,..everyone wants everyone else to follow them (especially car drivers),..but they themselves would like to pick and choose the traffic laws they follow. Because you know the same people here going on about cyclists breaking laws in this ‘bitch’ will tomorrow hop in their cars and all of them will break the law. Oh no you say,..you always go the speed limit,..yeah,..cuz i believe that. I’ve never met anyone (including myself) who drives a car and follows all the rules of the road all the time,..but heaven forbid if a biker breaks a road law. The hypocricy is amazing!
And no,.i’m not a young person who’s never driven a car. I’ve had my licence for 25 years now and sold my car for good 3 years ago because i like money more and i didn’t need a car to live my life. I have the freedom of choice because of where i live and work to own car or not to own a car,..something most people in this society don’t have. (i feel sorry for them)
So unlike a lot of the little children here who have only seen the world from behind a windshield, i’ve seen the world from both sides. But these days i bike more so i see more of the stupid shit “some” car drivers do. Back when i drove a car full time, i saw more of the stupid shit “some” bikers did. But each time i knew what i saw did NOT reflect on the entire group,..only that individual i was observing at the time.
What i think a lot of people on this ‘bitch’ need is more experience on both sides (car driving and biking) of the argument so they can have an informed opinion. Of course offering an opinion on something you’ve never done in your life and have no experience in is rather popular there days so i won’t hold my breath for an informed opinion out of the crew on this bitch board.
gez bikeman….if you had said that in a room with all of us in it, I think there would have been a lot silence and of people looking down at there feet in shame…well fucking said.
FFS I bike on the sidewalk. I can happily swerve out of the way of pedestrians, and get off and use the crosswalk. Want to know why? Because nobody’s told me what arbitrary age I had to reach to stop being worth the extra measure of safety and start risking my life on the road.
If they manage to revolutionize the biking in this city, I’ll reconsider it, but until then I’ll keep my road riding for when I’m vacationing in Amsterdam.
Fuckin’ rights, SwampDonkey! I’m riding my bike on the side walk. Unless I’m on Barrington street or Spring Garden, you bet I’ll be on the side walk.. fuck I hate the assumption that bikes HAVE to be on the road.. I’m not going to mow you down with all 110lbs on myself, and its not like I can’t hear you, see you, and stop or slow down if you, the pedestrian, are near to me. Just let me ride the side in peace.
walkers – ~5km/h
(runners – ~15km/h)
bicycles – ~25km/h
(electric assist bicycles – ~35km/h?)
motor vehicles (urban standard) – 50, actually 60km/h
With a 30km/h-ish speed difference and bicycles’ much lower visibility, is it any surprise that treating bicycles as motor vehicles doesn’t quite work?
I don’t think it should be that difficult for bicycles and pedestrians to share the sidewalks. I walk and do not bicycle (yet?), but I would be in favour of having pedestrians yield the sidewalk to bicyclists, with the provision that bicycles slow down near blind corners etc.
I aviation, the principle is to give the right of way to the least maneuverable vehicle. …seems like a good system.
bike riding can be fun, but the main goal is to survive do what you have to…this ain’t no amsterdam baby
bikeman…Excellent..
One of my favorite responses to these type of comments is the Fuck-Tards that say something to the effect of ‘walk, bike or take the bus’…Not everyone can do this. Some people actually live outside of th city, beyond a distance that any of these options are available or reasonably feasible.
Another of my favorites is when people say ‘get a job closer to where you live’ or ‘move to the city’…To which my reply is something like this: “How about you go fuck yourself or selves to the soothing sounds of E-Flat Major. It is a free country.” That is not a verbatim response, but a reasonable facsimile.
Bicyclists can all fuck off riding their bikes on the roads that were BUILT FOR CARS!!!!! There is not enough room for you. Fuck off passing on the right….and what is up with riding your bike in February….that is just totally retarded alltogether!!!!
Actually, teecee, they were built for horses and carriages.
THINGS CHANGE. Deal with it.
If you read my earlier post, though, you’ll see I agree with you on the main point.
…shitty argument is all. 😉
Hey teecee,..you need to educate yourself moron!
Yes,.paved roads are constructed these days primarily for the safety of motorized vehicles in mind but they are paid for by everyone in this society. So if you think i’m getting off the roads that I helped to pay for then you can fuck right off you little fucknut.
Man o man,..it’s sad how many apparent adults have no clue how infrastructure is paid for in this country. There seems to be absolutely no understanding about how public finances work,..rather sad when you consider that it’s OUR fucking money being spent.
As far as biking in February,..suck it up buttercup and maybe your little set of balls will drop eventually and you’ll become a man.
News flash for you,..it’s called weather, this is Nova Scotia and winter weather happens. You either live life or you become a complainer like yourself. Why don’t you do us all a favour and move the fuck out of Nova Scotia so that your pussy genes aren’t reproduced in this great province.
Yah know,..when i started biking full-time i also thought that biking in the winter might be well,..cold and dangerous. But then the fall came along and i kept biking and biking and biking right through to spring.
What did i learn? I learned that before i started biking in the winter my opinion of it was totally wrong and based on false assumptions because i had never biked in the winter and therefore had no experience to base my opinion on. In reality one can be quite warm and safe,..mind you it can be nerve racking at times since there are so many pcyhopaths in cars these days who don’t seem to give a damn for the safety of their fellow haligonians.
To quote myself from above; “offering an opinion on something you’ve never done in your life and have no experience in is rather popular” Hmmm,..sounds like teecee,..never been on a bike in the winter but yet feels that he still has an informed opinion.
The other thing about winter is that being cold is entirely a personal choice these days. The year is 2009 and we have the clothing technology for people to keep warm if they’d make the decision to properly dress for the weather. But most people don’t because it’s well,….i have no idea,..i guess people would rather complain about the cold rather then dress for it and live life.
So to recap the rant,…..TEECEE,..those aren’t your fucking roads little boy so please get a grip and understand that we’re trying to have a society here and stupid fuckers like yourself aren’t helping us much.
Also,..if you plan on continuing to be so fucking stupid,..please, please, please MOVE away from Nova Scotia as you are diluting the gene pool you twit.
I have never had a problem with bikes using the sidewalk for safety…but please for the love of god, when you reach a cross walk LOOK UP THE STREET, both ways (or 4 for that matter) before you zoom out on to the road to cross. Drivers are not looking for fast moving bikes crossing, they are looking for peds that are withing a certain distance of the corner (10 feet in my case).
Bikeman….you are an idiot. Plain logistics is there is no room for bikes on the roads and that makes it dangerous. I pay taxes too for the school systems and have no children and will not be having any. I don’t complain about having to pay those taxes!
By the way, I have no balls because I am not a man….fuck off!
the fact that there is no room on the roads for bikes isn’t the fault of any people writing in this bitch. If your on a bike, try to ride on the side so that cars can pass the bike, if your in a car, respect people on bikes and don’t run them off the road.
Case. Fucking. Closed.
Hey teecee,
Plain logistics? Are you that stupid that you can’t see the fucking city around you? Every fucking day hundreds of bikes share the road with cars just fine,…proving that yes, bikes and cars CAN share the road.
Who is it dangerous for? The bikes? Yes,..it probably is more dangerous for bikes because of the size, speed and weight differences between the two modes of transportation. Not to forget the fact that a small minority of car drivers are people like you,..that is,…total fucking stupid morons. But how can you sit there and say that if you have no fucking experience with what you’re talking about? Is it dangerous because you know you there are more people driving cars like yourself who apparently don’t know how to share the road with fellow citizens?
Instead of making an effort to share the road, you simply say no,..i don’t want to share,…i want all you people gone. Do you think the fucking world revolves around you? Why exactly do you think you don’t have to share public infrastructure that we all paid for?
As fallingangels says,….’narrow’ roads (in reality, roads are wide enough) are NOT the fault of anyone in this bitch. So we have what we have which means we have to share it. Accept it fucknut! People are willing to share it with you,..how about growing the fuck up and sharing it with everyone else.
Thank fuck you’re not reproducing and passing on your stupid genes!! That totally makes my day!!
I love your comment about how you “pay taxes for the school system and have no children”. What exactly is your point there,…that you don’t understand how canadian society works? Let me give you an example there,….there’s a street in my area that i’ve never ever driven on in a car or a bike and there is a stop sign on that street. Should i be expected to pay taxes for that stop sign? Why? I don’t use it so why pay for it.
Do you see where i’m going there moron? We have a society where we all put taxes in and they are pooled and we all receive benefits. (not to say that it’s a perfect system but that’s what we have). So stop whining about services you don’t feel you should pay for.
God i love these bitch threads. Feels so good to unload on morons like teecee. Wish i didn’t have to but a person can only listen too so much stupidity before breaking down.
So TeeCee,.. the rest of us are trying to have a civilization here and you and your stupidity are not helping at all. You’re quite welcome to join us but we do try to have minimum standards and presently,…you’re well below them. So why don’t you educate yourself a bit and maybe then you’d be able to contribute something of value instead of your simplistic “black and white” world observations.
Bikeman, like I said before, you are an idiot, dick wad. I am not the one who complained about paying taxes for services I do not use. I have no problem paying taxes for the school system, eventhough, I do not want to have children. You are the one who pointed out that you should have the right to bike on the roads because you helped to pay for them….this is a quote from your last bitch to me… “So if you think i’m getting off the roads that I helped to pay for then you can fuck right off you little fucknut.”
You are so stupid….and that is why you choose to ride your bike on the road…lol…lol!!!
“So if you think i’m getting off the roads that I helped to pay for then you can fuck right off you little fucknut.”.
#1) Bikeman = #1 Poster/”bitcher”
#2) Teecee is a plague on society
#3) The only issue I have with SOME cyclists would be when I’m driving and about to turn right, legally of course, at an intersection, and said cyclists decide it to be smart to fly up on the inside of traffic and go straight… This dubmfounds me… I dont want to injure anyone, but again SOME people make it more difficult than it should be…
#1) Bikeman = #1 Poster/”bitcher”
Yippee! I won #1. And it was my first bitch reply too. Been reading these bitches for a while now but never got in on the fun,..but now i think i’m hooked. Sorry if my bitches are too long but sometimes i get on a roll and can’t stop. 🙂
#2) Teecee is a plague on society
Oh so true!

I know,..that drives me nuts too. I make sure when i approach an intersection that the car just ahead of me is not going to turn because i know from driving a car that i’m in their blindspot. I’m not sure if some bikers don’t realize this or not but it amazes me too,..and it scares the hell out of me sometimes when i’m driving a car and turning because i also bike so am more aware that there could be a bike there.
TeeCee,..come on now. Is that all you can come up with? I’m stupid because i drive my bike on the road? Geez,….you’re going to have to up the level of your bitches because you’re really more funny then anything. I keep waiting for you to dish it out good but you just keep saying the same thing with no argument behind it. I mean,..i’d understand if you called me an idiot because you’re mad at me for being a prick to you. But to call me an idiot for driving a bike on the road,..i don’t know,..that’s kind of a stretch. I encourage you to work on your bitches because you’re not doing all that well.
Actually if you did some research you’d find that one of the most dangerous things you’ll ever do in your life is drive a car. You may feel safer but that’s only because you’re dumb and not able to properly assess risk.
Just wondering there TeeCee,..do you have friends or family who ride bikes? And if so, do you also call them stupid for riding on the road? And do you feel the same anger and lack of respect for your friends and family when they ride bikes? I hope you’re able to get over your anger someday and are able to co-exist peacefully with your fellow haligonians and i truly hope you don’t accidentally run down a friend or family member on a bike someday.
Well i think this bitch has run it’s course for me and it’s time to move onto the next one.
TeeCee,..good luck with your low intelligence problem and thanks again for not having any children as it would be a shame for a child to be passed your moron genes.
OMG… and you bitches think I’m long winded! Get some word economy, bikeman! Summarize your point, make it then fuck off. All these words and you still have no chance against my 3000 lb car, peon.
And for those who don’t know it, it’s illegal to ride your bike on any sidewalk anywhere in this country. Even Dizzy knows this.
Actually Kay, its not. It depends on the tire size.
Dammit, I can’t find it, so maybe not, just saw a quick exert about it on ctv news yesterday
Sorry… speaking to the ADULT sized bitches who would never dream of riding their 5 year old’s first two-wheeler… do ya mind if I roll my eyes here? Geesh
I wasn’t referring to kids. From what I saw last night the bikes that aren’t allowed on the sidewalks are the bikes that have extremely thin tires and are built for speed. Other’s are, pending the pedestrian is always given the right away, and there is a bell on the bike that gives those pedestrians warning that you are coming..but like I said, I’m only repeating what I saw on the news
Sounds more like bike path protocols and not sidewalk bylaw. You see, my son was charged with riding his skateboard on the sidewalk… pretty tiny tires, huh? Find the link!
teecee and kay, have a little pow-wow and resolve “You are so stupid….and that is why you choose to ride your bike on the road” and “it’s illegal to ride your bike on any sidewalk anywhere in this country”.
Sorry, but you don’t get to un-invent the bicycle.
riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is not permitted in the HRM, those of you who say it is, are misinformed. so cyclists who feel they are going to drive on the sidewalk for the sake of safey…you are not supposed to be there. very simple.
i bike regularly, but do not put myself out in the middle of traffic and pretend as though i belong there. i have no desire to be in between various multi-ton machines driven by drivers paying varying degrees of attention to the road. thats just my common sense kicking in i guess, disregarding my sense of entitlement.
but if you should persist on being declared vehicles, let’s have all the bikes inspected, registered and have insurance placed on them so when you weave in and out of traffic and scratch, ding or dent my car…its covered. the same as any other vehicle on the road.
I am not saying there are no laws against bicycles being on sidewalks. I am objecting more to the apparent unwillingness of some people to take a stance on the issue of where bicycles should be: sidewalk or road?
The subtext seems to be: “The government is on my side against sidewalk bicycling, so nyah nyah, and common sense for safety’s sake is on my side against road bicycling, so nyah nyah again. Bicycles don’t belong anywhere…losers.”
I’d just like to send shout outs to the douche who seems to think riding his bike down lacewood and yelling at pedestrians to gtfo of his way is just a GREAT idea.
You suck.
bikelanes would be the best thing NoDogma…but since our city is slow on uptake, or limited in space…edge of the road maybe?
in the flow of traffic is fine IMO as long as you aren’t creating a convoy behind you. that’s frustrating as hell for drivers. if when biking, i notice i’m backing cars up, i move over a bit. common courtesy.
so until we get more bikelanes i think common sense, rather a sense of entitlement must prevail. whether on two wheels or four.
PK, if that happens more than once I’d suggest walking with a stick to shove in his front spokes.
