Do the single guys in this city have to be so picky?

The other day, I met up with a guy I met online. We didn’t exchange pics previously but he took my word that I was attractive, and vice-versa.

I met at a coffee place, pleased with what I saw. But after 5 minutes of so-called conversation, the douche says somewhere along the lines of (not exact words, but the gist of it)… ‘This is false advertisement! You said you were attractive. You’re average at best!’.Then he made a tsk noise and left me sitting there with my 3-quarter-full frappicino! How fucking humiliating!

Who does this? So rude! Worthless piece of shit! I am attractive, but I guess this guy expected an Angelina or Charlize look-a-like! I mean, he was no Brad Pitt! Just goes to show, men are more shallow (concerned with looks) than women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I’m not pretty enough!

  1. Fist off, i am sorry you had to be subjected to such rudeness. That is a deplorable thing to do, no question about that. However, to make a blanket statement like “men are more shallow than women” is quite frankly ridiculous. Ever think that maybe it was just a case of HE was more concerened about looks than YOU, why does this one incident have to sum um a whole gender? Also ever consider that there may have been other things that might have turned this guy off? To he honest you sound a little bitter on men and maybe that shows in real life too. ( these are all just theories of course since i don’t actually know you, not accusations )I kinda see the guys point, although he sounds like quite a blunt instrument with the manners of a spoiled 4 year old, but if you had represented to be something else ( and not saying you actually did that….. but IF… ) i can see why someone would be pissed and leave. this is why a pic is worth a 1000 words. You should have one avaliable to prevent things like this happening again. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what one person considers “attractive” may not be the next persons cup of tea. but i do agree with you on one point, what he did was a major act of douchbaggery and is indefensible. Just please don’t paint us all with the same brush, its neither fair nor accurate

  2. What a tactless pig. Here’s hoping his future gorgeous girlfriend cuts off his dick with a rusty steak knife and feeds it to the seagulls.

  3. agreed lovinglife. IF you meet someone fom online with no pic, any expectations you made are your own. OP kep trying. I met my now wife online :)Shame on the guy you met for being an asshole. Sure everyone has physical attributes they lik eor son’t like. No need to be rude about it.HOwever, I also met people who gave old or misleading photos. shame on them too.

  4. Chances are he has very low self-esteem and it makes him feel good to be able to do that to someone. Really, that could devastate someone and give someone a crazy power trip.Get a really hot friend to get a hold of him via email and do the same thing. But be REALLY mean. Maybe have her walk into the cafe, stop at the table, look at him, then be like “No… NO!” And walk out.

  5. I’m sorry but attractive to one person may mean another thing to someone else. Typical “classic” beauties arent my thing, I tend to like the Maggie Gylennhal and Jena Malone types myself.

  6. Sure, showing pics is great in the online dating situations, but many of us are not that photogenic. Sometimes the lighting in the room or from the camera is bad, sometimes we’re squinting, etc. I, myself, look better in-person than in the majority of my photos. Someone might say get the pic professionally done with really good make-up and clothes, but that’s not what we’re going to look like all the time. I’m no hottie but frankly if someone said I wasn’t the least bit attractive, I would know they either had low self-esteem or were very critical/judgmental. I’d probably yell to that dipshit as he was leaving ‘No wonder you’re still single!’.

  7. Sounds like the guy did alittle false advertising himself, afterall he must have come off as being a decent human being while online and then surprise he was a goober.

  8. I can’t feel sorry for you and I don’t understand how you can say anything about guys being more shallow. You DID have to confirm he was good looking before you met him right? You also HAD to tell us all how you were please with what you saw. What if you hadn’t been pleased? What would you have done? Even if you wouldn’t have left, I’m sure you would have “suffered” through the rest of the date as if the person not being up to your standards was somehow offensive to you.P.S. I’ll go on a date with you even though I am ugly as fuck. Please say yes and prove to us all how open-minded you are.

  9. This doesn’t show that men are shallow, it shows that this guy is a dick and meeting people online is a silly way of finding friends. Why not just look around the cafe and note the guys who are checking you out (and pretending to look away when you catch them at it). then pick the one that looks most interesting and say ‘Hello….??

  10. This is why dude was on a dating site. Most of them don’t have the slightest clue how to treat people.

  11. OP, I acknowledge your humiliation and I empathise. I really do.But try to look at the bright side… At least he didn’t waste a whole lot your time showing you what an ugly person he really is…

  12. I personally think in NS, rudeness thrives. I’ve had encounters and I’ve heard from friends that a lot of people they met either in public or online are really extremely shallow. In fact, I’ve done this whole online thing myself and only met nothing but shallowness and rudeness from women in halifax. I’m not saying that what he did is right, the least he could do was spend an hour or 2 chatting and being nice and that’s it. It wouldn’t kill anyone to do that. Not to mention, please people in NS, if there’s no attraction, fucking say so, don’t be a moron and rude about it. I’ve had friends come from all over the world and said that nova scotian men and women are by far the shallowest and most stuck-up they met. I never really thought so until I actually noticed what they go through when they try to talk to someone at a bar or an outing or what have you. Once we were sitting at Economy Shoe Shop, 2 attractive average girls were sitting by themselves alone. I was single at the time but wasn’t looking. My friends were from out of town and were interested in having some fun, nothing sexual. They started talking to the girls. The girls got short and rude with them, to the extent they moved. The girls were no where near drop dead gorgeous, and they were alone. about half hour later. 3 other guys decided to join them. They were more of the Muscle head type of guys that you see running around downtown mouthing off to people. and the girls were just hooked!. I personally think it’s something to do with people in NS. I never saw things like this in montreal or NB, or Victoria. when i went out in these places. I was welcomed with friendliness, in fact in BC, at one bar, I never bought any drinks, and I’m a 30 y/o average guy. The bar tender in BC just kept giving them to me for free (Female Bar Tender for the ones who feel the need to think it was a male gay guy), and she was a nice looking one also, around 125lbs from what I remember, burnette, glasses, say around 5’6″, green eyes. nothing happened, we just ended up meeting the next evening, then I left BC. That will never ever happen here in Halifax.

  13. HAHAHAHA… that’s why people actually pay up for a dating service and “real” compatibility matching. HAHAHAHA Find some coin and you might find a nice guy. HAHAHAHAIf more men, like this guy, would tell the truth and actually admit to what they feel/think or just say it like it is… the divorce rate would go way down.Don’t worry. Beautiful women notice peacocks a mile away. They get tucked into private fantasies and that’s all because that’s how trustworthy a “pretty boy” is. He’d be fucking around in no time. You didn’t want him anyway. Go find yourself an average looking lovable guy and you might have half a chance. Thanks for all the laughter, OP! HAHAHA

  14. i was going to pass on this one, its a minefield but here we go.married once to a girl I loved a lot (and in some ways still am fond of) but never liked (if you’ve been there you understand) and dating again, let me give my two cents.i’ve dated blonde, redhead, black, grey (neat ..really) even blue. overweight, underweight, athletic, and not, smart, the proverbial brick, sweet and absolute pain in the asses. what is with the female population and the carrying of baggage only UPS Express could envy? I might very well be interested at some point in your issues with boyfriend the guy before the guy before me, but I don’t necessarily want to dwell on it, and judging from your current situation, neither should you. I’m interested in your relationships with other women, and your petty politic at work, but they are not what make up you, or in some of the cases I have dated, maybe they do.hotties are nice to date, but you don’t want to be married to one, with the administrative load, they get real tiring real quick.I want normal, not seeing a therapist currently, and with no history of trying to bump off a rival sister. Apparently these days, that’s too much to ask. If you are moderately middle of the park, I would not worry about it, he’s out there, you just haven’t made an illegal left turn into each other yet.peace
