I am a member of a local online freecycling site, the purpose of the site is to keep stuff that maybe still be usable to someone out of landfills. It’s great, I’ve been able to get rid of a ton of stuff there, but there seems to be an awful lot of posts lately from people giving away items who want explanations as to why you might want or need an item, or my personal favorite: a post was submitted to give away an item, but you have to write a proposal to the freecycler for their review and the best proposal will get the item… WTF????

Are you kidding me? Just give it away, it’s obviously trash to you so why do you care who takes it??? I personally didn’t want any of these items that were being given away, but it seems to me that if you want to get rid of something then just do it! Does it make you feel better about yourself or more powerful in some way over others to get to decide who gets your trash? —Iheartthecoast

  1. i don’t need a website. i just offer the items to a few and voila the stuff is gone…much like the movie passes we get. if you can’t use it give it to someone who can, just get it outta here^^

  2. i get a kick out of the ones that charge you to take your stuff, then sell over for a ton of money.by the way, i do computer recycling, and i don’t charge for what is dropped off. i usually wind up fixing them, upgrading, then donating them to someone just starting out on the net or whatever reason they have.

  3. thanks p.k., i try doing some shit like this yearly, and stuff i don’t need, i pass it on to others doing the same, in different areas.

  4. There’s a good guy buried under the crotchety horn dog exterior, eh, suckalicious?? I’ve been sayin’ it for months now.

  5. LS is like a roasted chestnut: hard shell with a pointy tip and some rough spots outside, but all warm, sweet, and soft inside.

  6. ah shit guys, you’re going to make me blush. fact is, i’ve been doing this for a long time, even before coming here. it’s just something to pass the extra long hours i put inn, in my business. gotta have a few distractions, right. the ponn farr isn’t going well, so gotta have something to do with my hands, other than the normal single guy thing.

  7. Gotta love the super power modding that the local Freecycle site does too. You can only ask one time for something in a month or two, and they wouldn’t let me ask for a handheld GPS (an item that retails for less than $100). But people can ask for working laptops or cars? Wtf.

  8. We did a similar thing to what LS is doing where I went to college, though I think most of our computers went to schools/businesses.

  9. This is the dumbest bitch I have ever read. The lady had about 1000 books to give away and wanted to make sure they went to the right place. Why does this bother you so much? Isn’t it a lot easier to just delete the message and go on about your day? When you make an offer on Freecycle do you immediately give it to the very first person who replies? I don’t. I see who writes a coherent sentence with a pick up time and phone number. You wanna write a bitch about that now too?

Redhawtharley – you’re an idiot. You complain people ask for too much in the same post you complain you couldn’t ask for a godamned GPS? Shut up.

There’s no posts asking for a car on the Halifax Freecycle group. Post the link to it, otherwise I call bullshit.

Any mods reading this – keep up the good work and ignore these fucking idiots.

  10. I’m ‘super-mod’ from the HRM_Freecycle. Glad to see we made the “big time” and got in LTWWB. I don’t really want to get involved in this but i felt i should say that no request for a car has ever been approved by a moderator on the site. Never. You can post two wanted requests a week and only request the same item once per month. Otherwise the site would be nothing but people asking for the same stuff over and over and then there would be complaints about that. We do our best, but maybe it’s not for you. The 8800 members of HRM_Freecycle have posted over 60,000 messages. Think about how much stuff has exchanged hands, avoided the landfill and helped people along the way. That group is awesome and I’m proud to be taking care of it. And leave the lady who asked for proposals for her library of books alone would you, please? I told her it was okay, so bitch to me instead – privately. You’re publicly shaming someone for trying to do something that would have the most benefit for the most people. SO not cool.

  11. same reason people get plaques when they donate money they want people to “feel the love they’re giving” 🙂
