My boyfriend posted an ad for someone to buy his contract so he could take out one with a new company. The ad was answered and the phone call went smooth with the company rep saying, “Yes it’s been transferred, have a nice day”. Two weeks later we received a bill for the phone that was no longer in our possession. Upon calling the company to see why we were still receiving the bill they told us the phone was still in his name. So not only was the transfer not completed but the rep neglected to call us and tell us about it and we were getting billed for a couple hundred dollars in charges we didn’t make. After many angry calls one rep finally cut off the phone so no other calls could be made from it and removed the charges that weren’t made by us and we cancelled the cell. Today… we received an $800 phone bill from the place where we’re no longer supposed to have a phone; it turns out it had not been cut off, it had not been tranferred, the charges had not been removed, and the number and pin have both been changed by the guy who currently has the phone. Not only does their security apparently not exist, but you can’t trust anything the representatives of the company are telling you. —Krista

  1. I bet the early cancellation charge seems like a steal now!

If there was ever a story on why you can’t trust people, this is it! The provider you tried to get rid of, were they a percussion instrument by chance?

  2. Saw this on W5 a piece back, problem is the clues answering the phone are dolts, tell you something and soon as you hang up they forget or can’t be bothered, my wife went through this for a couple of months, finally settled but what a pain in the ass

  3. You must be young.
Only a young person with a shred of respect left for humanity would trust a person on the other end of a telephone with your purse, which is exactly what you did. God love ya….live and learn.

  4. I would definitely have gone to a brick and mortar to get this transferred…
where I would get buddy’s name and the clerks name.

lo and behold, user was just as lax as the company….

  5. If this is the company I think it is, it doesn’t surprise me in the least. It took four calls to cancel a cell phone contract that WAS NEVER ACTUALLY ACTIVATED.

And it took five calls and 8 months to have them pick up the phones they were supposed to pick up.

    FRIG.

  6. LOL old people. The OP is talking about a cell phone. You know, those things you refuse to use. Many times you have no choice but to deal with your account over the phone. I guess you could try flying to Toronto or the Philippines or wherever the call centre is and try to get them to deal with your problem in front of you, but that would just be silly wouldn’t it?

  7. We’ve been having the same problem too! Not with contracts, but with just getting accounts amalgamated and things. 3 calls later, after 3 different people ASSURED us it was all done, I STILL bet it won’t be right. It’s fucking ridiculous. And we’ve got 3 different confirmations. I’m so fucking frustrated with this company, but it’s really our only options in small town NB. Hate, hate, hate. But they have the monopoly. I need to move to Europe.

  8. Thanks, OB. I was thinking of selling my internet stick because it comes with a data plan that is $5 /mth cheaper than any data plan available.
Instead, I think I’ll spend the $100 cancelation fee then sell the stick for 20-30. Sounds alot safer that trying to do someone a favor

  9. Tell your BF to change his name….haha. If your BF can’t commit to a contract and complete the terms and conditions initially set between him and the company, they he deserves all this drama. Why would a company (that he left for another company/provider) give a damn about him. It’s not like they are trying to win him back.
