You sound like a child. Get a similar sign and use it. Then the crossing guard will be confused and not assist you in crossing the street.
I love it when crossing guards help me across the street. I’m way too old for it, but for just a second I feel coddled and looked after.
I feel silly having the crossing guard hold the sign as a I cross but if this was the only thing that soured up your day, consider yourself lucky.

Because it is their job. So Mr or MS Big Shot what do you think the headlines would be in the papers if you get fucking hit on their crosswalk and you or your estate sues everybody. Quit being a fucking douchebag. They are responsible for that crosswalk while they are there. They work the hours described and have to be there before school gets in or out.

They are obliged to help the general public not just children. So use your energy to worry about something that matters.

smile, say ‘thank you’, and walk. it’s not worth being agitated about.
I think it really comes in handy for me during early morning traffic when I take my walk. Other than being chided for walking outside the lines of the crosswalk I appreciate the service. But that’s just me and my independent attitude. Thanks crossguards for a job that very few people appreciate but one that keeps us all safe!

Are they hired to exclusively see that the children are able to cross safely ?
I’ve never heard one way or another, but if they are there anyway, why not do the job they’ve been hired to do, for anyone who needs to cross the road
