dear parents, it is a horrible idea to go to any clothing or accessory store and let some 16 year old junior assistant but a piercing gun anywhere near your kids face let alone put holes in them with it,
they do not have a special sterilized section used for only piercings, also you should never get your ears or anything else pierced with a stud with a backing, in should be a hoop for your ears or barbells so you can rotates the jewelry and keep it clean. if you get something pierced with a stud the gun does not adjust to ear size. and you cant sterilize the gun afterwards.
it is just lazy and cheap. it cost 30$ at a piercing and tattoo salon, and they have proper equipment for the procedure and to properly sterilize afterward. you should always educate yourself on the procedure and steps taken so your not going in blind.
ask questions. get answers.
and to these stores, you can kick me out when i say something to a mother who thinks its a good idea to take earrings out of one kids ears to pierce another, everyone has a right to know the risks of that if your not going to tell them.
oh and a earring is not a piecing needle, it leads to scarring.

I laugh at these dumb kids and their face holes – it all looks great and rebellious but at 40, those holes will be the size of pie plates. Same deal with tattoos – one buddy of mine is totally embarrassed by her ‘Fuck the Establishment’ tattoo on her arm, accompanied by a hand, middle finger extended – she never wears short sleeves – another friend now has a saggy, depressed looking butterfly on her ass. You really got to look at the big picture but when you’re young, you rarely have that kind of insight.
Piercings are like hiccups, anything over 4 and it just gets annoying.
I find it hilarious that those body modifications (plates in the ears, and whatnot) are going to be hideous in 5 years. Not to mention too, the kids who have them probably don’t even realize the cultural significance of them…
Just wanted to state that, I have a total of 7 holes in my ears, 4 in one side 3 in the other. the first one was done at a salon when I was 4 and hurt like hell afterwards, but I was 4, and maybe being dramatic. The second set was also done at a salon when I was 12, and got infected so badly that I had to take them out and let them grow over! I had it later re done at and “accessory” place when I was 23, and then the third at the same place 4 weeks later. No problems whatsoever! I had my upper cartiledge done at the competing accesory place a little over a year later, on my coffee break, no issues.
All with studs, with a backing.
My sister just had her eyebrow done at a salon a month ago (worst decision ever, but not my body). It still pains her, and has a minor infection.
It depends on the “piercer’ and the ‘piercee”, both parties are responsible for different things.
There’s nothing wrong with studs with backs. They can be turned during the healing process, and you can swab alcohol or cleaner around them. Once upon a time, that’s all you could get. Thousands of people had their ears pierced without any issue, usually in a store. Hell, I had mine done in Woolco when I was twelve(that doesn’t show my age at all, does it?) You had a choice of silver studs or gold, they recommended the gold because there was less chance of infection from those ones. At least, that’s what they told us. But, there were no hoops, no fancy studs with rhinestones, no fancy shapes, just boring old round studs.
The thought of re-using earrings from one person to another, is definitely wrong. Anyone who does that is just asking for an infection.
I do wonder about this craze for stretching the lobes. What do they do in ten years when they don’t want it anymore, get it sewn up by a doctor? Otherwise, they’ll be walking around with lobes flapping around their neck. I hate those kinds of piercings, they’re really ugly.
Studs are safe for ear lobes, nothing else. There’s no room for swelling, the dull stud can crack the cartilage and they really can’t be properly cleaned afterwards.
The gun cannot be sterilized between uses either.
People have been piercing, tattooing and stretching body parts forever, it’s not just some current craze…
I think that wrinkled skin with tattoos is much nicer to look at than plain old wrinkled skin…
And, some people do like having earlobes that look like cat’s assholes… Each to their own.
the ear stretchers imo are quite ridiculous. a friend of mine has ones that have him stretched to about an inch. it is going to look hideous when hes older. im not one of those guys who lectures about tattoos and piercings looking like crap when youre 60…i have tattoos.
i just cant imagine when you are 50 that ear stretchers will be part of your style statement. however, big floppy lobes will be.
Just a little aside – My niece has several face piercings and found it impossible to get a job in Halifax. So she moves out to B.C. and snags a job her first week out there. There’s still a lot of uptight employers in Halifax who cring at this kind of ‘self-expression’ but, according to my niece, employers on the Pacific Coast seem to be able to look beyond the piercings.
when you pierce you’re ear with a gun the skin is pushed to the side; with a needle, the skin is taken away because the needle has a tiny little hole in it, therefore making it easier to maintain. When you get things pierced in a salon you are running the risk of some problems; infections(they don’t sterilize), having to try a couple times(I’ve heard of people having to have the HAIRDRESSER try twice because stud didn’t go through on the first attempt)and if you get cartilage done, you’re seriously running the risk of being paralyzed because there are nerves in your ear and if the HAIRDRESSER hits one, you’re royally fucked yo. And anyone willing to get their face or any other body part done with stud has fucking issues. This is my point, HAIRDRESSER’s do hair, that’s what they have been trained to do. Seems simple enough to me. oh and when you take the ear stretchers out people, your ear ends up looking like a cats asshole. Lovely.
Some people really do like that…puckered look! Not for me, but no more stunned than silicone implants or botulism toxin injections tho…
I work in long term care and have a bunch of tattoos, some small and hidden, some larger and not so hidden.
All have significance to me, and I can’t wait to have more. And in the future, when I’m 80+, they’ll be conversation pieces.
We joke around that when our generation makes it into nursing homes, they’ll need metal detectors to find all the piercings.
This one girl I know has a round stud on the space between her lip and her chin, off to the left. To me it just looks like a metallic zit. People that get piercings in the oddest places crack me up.
