Are you serious dude? You’re going to compare or lump together people who watch porn with people who watch child porn? Two different things, man. For one, adult porn is legal and consensual.
You just couldn’t resist the urge to preach and push your agenda and demonize the adult entertainment industry and the millions who support it instead of just acknowledging that this guy is the latest of a long line of child abusing creeps that have come out of your organization, and that maybe, JUST POSSIBLY you guys need to make some serious changes to fight this.

I’m pretty sure they changed that to leave it to the judge’s discretion whether they get double, time and a half, or just time served.

As of 6 years ago, they still got double time. The justice system SUCKS big time here. The case I was involved in, the guy was facing 28 charges, from kidnapping, to assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, etc.
The trial was split into two parts, the fist part dealt with the first half of the charges.
He got 18months, because he sat in jail for so long before hand. Then, without a word to me, the crown offered him NO EXTRA TIME on the remaining charges, in exchange for a guilty plea. “Just so we can have it on record.”
So the next time he attempts to kill someone in front of umpteen witnesses, he can get a harsher punishment? I guess?
there are 3 kinds of justice in the land, i refer to the rich man’s, the poor man’s, and of course the political type. the last is if you ever get caught, you get a tap, and promise not to get caught again. injustice you say here, well bub, why not become a masked hero and mete out your own brand of justice, but don’t get caught without a ton of money, to make it all go away. right ivan?
“stripped of his duties” – not excommunicated? Personally i think people who abuse/molest/rape/murder children should be given a much more severe punnishment for their crimes. After their jail time (no “time served”, no time off for good behavior) is served in full, they get rendered physically incapalbe of ever doing it again. Better yet, they never get out of prison, and they get bunked in with all the other rapist and murderers.

He wasn’t excommunicated because the Church believes Jesus/God forgives all sins upon repentance, Hugo.
He’s still a Priest and a Bishop, in fact. His abilities to practice his duties as a Priest and a Bishop were taken away from him. The Arch Bishop here in Halifax was on the news and said that if you’re a Bishop/Priest and you have your duties stripped that’s pretty much worse than the death penalty or something like that. I dunno, but I think that if the Church believes in the idea of repentance, excommunicating him would have sort of been hypocritical to their beliefs.
I don’t like many of the beliefs of the Catholic church, but I do give them some respect for staying true to their doctrine — however fucked up that doctrine might be.
The fact that he didn’t plead guilt, fought the whole way, and (if I have the right guy) tried to keep documents/letters from the public eye, tells me theat he’s not all that repentant.
The only reason that cocksucking baby rapist is sorry is because he got caught.

OP, you make it sound as if the Roman Catholic Church still has so much sway over public policy. The Criminal Code sets the sentencing recommendations as well as lists the crime. It’s the Canadian government, not the Vatican’s, that sets out that document and enforces it.
More to the point, you sound like the Church is the buzzkill for any fun _you_ want to have, like the only reason you’re not getting laid is because Benny and Big Tony are telling you that it’s wrong and to try to find someone you want to spend the rest of your life with first. That you’re referring to us filthy Papists as “you” belies the distinct possibility that you were raised as one of us then found out you didn’t like some of the rules of the club.
Hey, that’s cool. I understand if you want to try to go your own way. But don’t go around blaming a church for not giving you the green light to fap to your heart’s content. Just bear in mind that not all of the actors and models in your “consensual adult” pursuits are so keen to share their self-respect and pride with you and 50000 others, and others may not have been able to give a “yea” or “nay” to doing what you’re seeing in your magazines or movies.

But there are some pretty nice catholics out there too. One of them, a nun from Nigeria, was on a cancelled flight with me when i took very sick at Lester B. Our next flight was a 12 hour wait away and i became so ill first responders had to show up. She didn’t leave my side all day and was nothing but kind and good to me. And made me feel like i didn’t have to be alone in a shitty airport while i coughed up blood.
My point is.. uh.. i don’t have one. I just want people to know this lady exists.
