In a recent study, they found that over 40% of Nova Scotians have considered suicide in the last year. No really, I bet your first response was, is it that low? Obviously this study is BS on my part, but really, everyone is depressed in this province for a reason. I have lived in other provinces and this one nickels and dimes you to death and doesn’t provide any services to warrant the raping we take. I have come to the conclusion that the only thing I like about this province is the weather. How sad is that? —At Least the Rain is Coming
This article appears in May 17-23, 2012.

Before you off yourself from the MacDonald …… perhaps a therapy session would be helpful or just leave of your own accord.
For your mental health we wish you good-bye and good luck.
but, but even the weather sucks down here in land of the lost cause.
it’s not sad, the weather here is all kinds of crazy. it’s snowing wait it’s raining oops the sun comes out. hail is one of those things that could be a sign of a tornado, but that doesn’t tend to happen
? we have shit weather…
it’s only what can be classified as ‘nice’ weather MAYBE 8 weeks a year… and rains more than a frat guy finishing a century party.
suicide is part of life.. the real question is HOW are they planning on offing themselves.
take a leap
sever artery
poison
gunshot
hang
crash car
walk out in traffic
incite lethal police retaliation
…
Weather’s nice today!
I always thought the best way to do it is carbon monoxide poisoning. Just park yo’ car in a garage, close the door and get some duct tape and clothes dryer hose stuff and hook your exhaust up to your car window, duct taping around the openings to get a good seal. Turn your car on, get sleepy, have a nap and BANG you’re dead.
Sounds pretty painless to me *shrug*
Only a comparative study should be taken seriously. For all we know from this bitch, 90% of Quebecois are suicidal.
‘favorite prophets name here’ OB !
Its not all that bad.
Had a great yesterday, the whole famn damily came out for mothers day, Mum just thought it was going to be me & my honey her & Dad, for a Bar B Q. Everyone else told her they were busy, going to open the camp(s), over to Halisux for the day, out of town etc
Supplies !!!!! everyone showed up here for mum’s day….lots of kid’s running around , lots of food, family & friends.
Sure there’s reasons to be pissed at how we’re governed , over taxed, gouged at meter, pump & store etc.
But there are lots of good things as well !
(& yes I know its spelled SURPRISE!!!! I’ve always liked the supplies joke)
I doubt it’s really 40%. They probably asked 10 of the saddest people they could find, 4/10 said they’ve considered suicide and BAM!, 40% of Nova Scotians are suicidal.
that’s not very green of you pk…
a big fuck you to everyone else as you up your carbon footprint and we have to deal with it.
hemlock is said to be pretty painless as well..
you start to feel heavy, lay down, fall asleep and done.
step one, take sharp knife, step two, draw across throat quickly, step three, lay there and croak already. or if you into a lot of pain thing, watch seinfeld for an entire day. you might not be dead after it’s over, but wish you were, hyk, hyuk.

So taxes and surcharges make you want to commit suicide? It’s just money. Life’s about a bit more than that. The weather is a bit strange around there though. I’ve had both my lawnmower and snow shovel ready for action this spring.
I understand OP…debt can make people go insane. A couple of years ago, I contemplated jumping off my balcony to escape CREDITORS that were hounding me 20 times a day. I thought I was going to have to go through a bankruptcy and that made me feel like such a loser and that I had no security anymore…I know its just money and all…but you worry you’ll end up out on the street. I would pray that the sun wouldn’t come out and that it would be cloudy every day so I could unplug my phone and sleep and it would all go away…I’d take gravol pills or anything really that would make you drowsy. I slept for like, 3 months and then when I woke up I felt better. I told the bitches on the phone, if you ever fucking call me again I will sue your bitch asses for harrassment. The creditor asked, “Are you serious?… Am I being punked?” You gonna WISH you was gettin punked mothafucka. I took down the motherfuckers name that would threaten me daily…saying they will take me to court for the 20 grand I racked up on visa on my bipolar shopping spree. Luckily, the card was insured and the debt was wiped clean because of the illness. Don’t off yourself over money, whether its 20 grand debt or 500 grand. It’s fucking paper with printing on it. You will never be a bum on the street living in a cardboard box. There are services in place if those circumstances ever arise, like welfare, community services, housing etc. Life is just so precious people – especially mine.
Whaat! You don’t have to pay your bills if you’re bipolar??
Shhhh don’t give Survivor any ideas. 😛
Haha, It’s not that simple Mel. You don’t just get your bills paid if you suffer from Bi-polar. I would be pretty psyched it they did tho!
I realize Captain. I just find it odd.. the mental health system is apparently suffering, yet they can find it in their hearts to pay off someone’s credit card debt? Like do they still get to keep all of the merchandise they “bought”? Seems like something that could be taken advantage of.
True Story. I would hope that what merchandise could be returned, would be returned.
People would almost definitely take advantage of that system. Also, if someone has a perk like that, you can bet everyone else is going to want the same thing. If one thing led to another, soon everyone with an illness could have their debt wiped. And that’s not Kool.
These facts from the NS Suicide Report are astonishing!
• Suicide was the second largest category for injury-related hospitalizations across Nova Scotia
(excluding medical complications and adverse events).
• Fifty-five per cent of hospitalizations for suicide attempts were by females. The sex disparity was more
apparent among younger age groups and declined with age.
• Females between the ages of 15 and 19 had the highest hospitalization rate for attempted suicide of
any age category.
• Numerically, 84% of completed suicides were by males.
• Males between the ages of 50 and 54 had the highest rate of completed suicide.
Use of firearms was the most frequent means of suicide death in Nova Scotia. Hanging, strangulation,
or suffocation was the second most common means of completing suicide. Younger people tended to
use hanging, strangulation, and suffocation more frequently, while seniors more frequently used
firearms.

There is no shame in having to declare bankruptcy or consumer proposal anymore. Not like the stigma it used to have attached to it. And under current laws, you won’t lose your house and in most cases, are able to keep your vehicle.
During my divorce, I was struggling just to keep my head above water. I finally realized that my peace of mind, mental and physical health were suffering tremendously due to the crushing burden of worry and stress of trying to make ends meet. I bit the bullet and went to see a bankruptcy trustee. About 45 mins later I walked out a new man, feeling better than I had in years and was actually looking at things in a positive light. They were more than understanding and took the time to explain all my options and the consequences surrounding them.
As it turns out, the best option for me was a consumer proposal,(a.k.a. “bankruptcy lite”), where they look at your total debts, compare it to what you presently make in pay, account for your everyday expenses, (rent, utilities, food, gas, etc) and based on that, determine a percentage of your overall debt that you can comfortably pay back. Your creditors almost always agree to the terms as they would much rather get a percentage of what’s owed as opposed to nothing (bankruptcy), and aside from one payment a month to the trustee, you’re done dealing with the harassing creditors and collection calls. As a result of going this route, I had to attend a couple of conselling sessions with the trustee, where they showed me how to properly budget, save and spend wisely. The only downside, if you can call it that, is you lose any credit you had and are unable to obtain new credit until 3 years after your last payment to the trustee. (For me, that totals 7 years, which is the same as if I declared bankruptcy). I honestly have to say, I don’t miss having credit, though. I now have 2 payments left and I can start rebuilding it back up.
I’m not saying that it’s ok to go out and rack up your cards and spend willy nilly because you can always pull a Mulligan, declare bankruptcy and get out of it. That’s not what it’s meant for. But for those who find themselves in that ever-deepening financial hole, it is a very viable and, in some cases, life saving option.
Crayons, the big difference is that booze is much, much cheaper in Quebec. Keeps people cheerful. 😉
