Over the weekend the great annual Clam Harbour Sand Castle Competition took place. Once again the “honourable” mayor Peter Kelly presided over the judging along with a number of other judges. There are few rules contestants must follow when it comes to constructing sand castles and sculptures but one is all items used must be “natural items found on the beach.” Peter Kelly and the judges awarded first prize to a sculpture of a sail boat complete with rope, plastic pipes for port holes and a crows nest made of a plastic barrel… Come on Kelly, how hard is it to fairly judge a sand castle competition??? —Sore Loser

Rope and plastic have become “natural” flotsam on our shores. Just be glad they didn’t arm their vessel with a battery of 32lb carronades made of beach whistles.

This is not a legit bitch. If you are going to bitch out Kelly, at least bitch about something that matters. There are plenty of things to chose from that don’t include sand castles.
I agree with OP. Sand, mud, water, shells, seaweed is all you need to use. If it’s manmade it’s out! Glad that’s settled.
Just more proof that the man doesn’t know how to follow procedures or rules. Even for something as simple as a sandcastle competition he’s hopeless. Maybe the winner even got some free schmoozing beforehand. Lucky guy.
this comes under the heading of false advertising. and as such, no prize should have been given out to that person. if i were a judge, they would have been disqualified. but we all know that kelly is a little short in the brain dept.

How do you even know that Kelly voted for the ship to win? If it won there must have been other judges that selected the sand ship.
