I’ve lived in a house with 3 roommates for 2 months now. We’ve always been civil to one another, never heard a complaint from any of them. Then the other day i find a note signed by all 3 of them stating that they want me to move out. I have no clue whatsoever why. Even if I had done something to offend or upset any of them, is it unreasonable to expect them to talk to me about it?

You probably have bad hygene or do not pick up after yourself.
Confront them each individually and ask them why and what seems to be the problem. You’ll get more of an answer that way. Plus they are apparently all gutless anyway if they had to write you a note.
Stay right where you are! Do not move out, and do not change your habits in any way, shape or form. If they don’t have the guts as ‘adults’ to come to you and tell you what the problem is, then fuck ’em! They’re acting like children by sneaking around behind your back and not takling to you, so return the favour and don’t move out.

WHY would you want to stay in a place where you’re not wanted? It’s even a unanimous decision. Who gives a rats ass what kind of bee got into the roommate’s bonnets… it’s their problem and now they’ve made it yours.
If you want to piss them off and keep these people as enemies, do nothing like Never Wrong here says. Stop paying rent too. They’ll have get judgment then hire a sheriff to get you out but that’s only if you’re looking for enemies. Sorry but Never Wrong is often wrong.
If you’re above all that game-playing, bullshit and negative karma and wouldn’t engage in such foolish games, just leave. It doesn’t matter why they want you out, just take your dignity and go. Karma works both ways and you don’t even have to be around to see what comes around goes around. One day these people will be uninvited by trusted colleagues and, viola, justice is served.
Your roommates probably got together after each disliking things about you secretly and thinking it was just them, to find out, that they all agree on the things you do that they don’t like. So you can find out what they are and either: it will be little things you can opt to change, and things will be better; or it will be big personality type things that will make you feel like shit and you’ll move out. Or you can move out without knowing.
To Gustav, I have great hygiene and i clean up after myself just as much as they clean up after their selves. Even if it was my hygiene and cleaning habits that were bothering them, that’s something that I would gladly change if I knew about it. To never wrong, I thought about doing exactly what you said. If they are too immature to face me, I can be too immature to acknowledge it. But I’m not, I’m better than that. I wrote a note right back that said “are you gonna give my an axplanation?” no one has answered it even tho I know they’ve seen it., so I’m planning a face to face confrontation soon! And Cranky, your post made me laugh! that’s exactly what its like 🙂
moira, just remember that they cannot throw you out or evict you.
also, explain to them that if you move out at THEIR behest (save the letter they all signed for records) then they have to accept the broken lease and pay for any costs associated with it. and get it in writing that they will too.
just because its 3 vs. 1 doesn’t mean they’ve won.
whats with all this note passing. how old are yall? i know you plan a confrontation soon moira, but you should have went up to them with thier first note in hand and asked what the hell it was about.
as others have said, since they dont want you in there, why stay? get your portion of the security deposit back and find others to live with. people who have passed the grade 3 note passing stage.
maturity is a big factor in deciding who to cohabitate with. hopefully, if you decide to move out you will evaluate this quality more closely in your prospective roomates.
Don’t forget you want your portion of the security deposit PLUS 2 months interest, whatever amount of change that works out to.
I’m so glad I’ll be living by myself soon. Fuck roommates! Unfortunately, some people have no choice but to have roommates because living alone is too expensive for them.
the thing is there is no lease, so they can do it if they want. Its just a pain in the ass what with being in the middle of the busiest time of year in school . And I know passing notes is juvenile, but I wanted to give them the opportunity to step up first, I don’t know if they realized what deuchebags they’re all being. About the lease: check out landlord tenant law. Either side must provide… I think it’s 90 days written notice in Nova Scotia, nobody has to say why.
The amount of annual interest that accrues on your deposit is set by the provincial government every year. Deduct the expected amount from the last round of rent you’ll pay.
moira if there’s no lease you’re renting an illegal apartment. and the landlord is liable.
it doesn’t mean that they can “do whatever” they want either. they’re still bound by laws and cannot evict you if they please. there is still procedures.
draft a note to the rental tenancies about your situation so its in their file. if you are removed, you can have a case against the witches.

Ha ha. I doubt it was “just” koolaid not being cleaned up. I mean think about it. It’s too bad they didn’t have the balls to confront you about whatever their problems are. I’m guessing it’s either a bunch of stuff that for some reason you think is fine but is in fact incredibly annoying (like my roommate), or, like someone else mentioned, they want to replace you with someone else they have in mind. Probably the latter. I would agree with the others and say just leave (but try to be compensated in some way…?). You don’t want to be living with people who want you gone, even if you’re legally entitled to be there for X amount of time. It’s not worth it.

I’m sure your right about them wanting the room for a friend, the one I talked to actually even said “its not personal”. I just told you about the koolaid thing to point out the ridiculousness of it. All I meant is that it sounded like they (the one roommate you’d talked to about it) were saying that spilt koolaid was the only reason they were pushing you out, which is kinda crazy/unlikely. Sorry if I misinterpreted.
The fact that they left a note for you (which is frankly immature and obnoxious) means that they must be too embarrased to tell you to your face. Use that to your advantage – call a meeting (lame as it sounds) and get them to set things straight. The truth will make itself known if you make it clear that you want to stop the bullshit.

they are not: a court judge, the landlord, the property owner. so realistically they’re up shits creek with trying to “evict” you. if there’s no lease, there is no legal grounds for “eviction”.
if they start removing your property from the residence, take them to small claims court if you lose anything.
you just have to realize that there’s no legal grounds for the roommates to have you removed.
There is legal grounds for eviction when notice is given in writing. If there are no legal terms defined for the lease or the eviction the landlord tenant law kicks in. She’s given notice in writing to vacate, the law gives her 90 days to comply.
Have you people never lived with a dirty person before? Someone who leaves their (*our, we own them) dirty dishes beside the sink instead of actually washing them or turning to their side and putting them into the DISHWASHER.
Have you guys ever lived with someone who BATHES everyday when you pay for oil? When there is a shower in the house also and when they were showed the place were specifically asked to use the shower.
The spilling the kool-aid was an EXAMPLE of the lameness of the situation. There’s also a mess in the freezer from Kool-aid ice cubes (?) and stains on the front of the fridge and cupboard (which i’ve repeatedly cleaned b/c I DON’T WANT TO LIVE IN A STY!)
It’s a lot easier to slip someone a note because it might be embarrassing for the DIRTY person to hear that they are that type of person.
Also, having feelings fester about someone only results in a blow-up in their face.
We have been living here for over a year, we have never had to tell a roommate how to live.

We gave her a 30 day written notice to leave – we have replaced her – her replacement is NOT a friend of ours. We are trusting the next person to have life skills.

There is no lease for the house – For over a year there’s been no problem with people moving in and tidying up behind themselves. We have a dishwasher, plenty of liquid and no excuse to leave dishes in the single sink and in the way.
Loads of people are looking for roommates and with a month’s notice, where’s the problem? You moved in on a moment’s notice….I wonder what the problem was in the previous place? hmmmm

Normally, when people have a problem with their roommates not doing dishes, bathing too much, etc. they speak to the person in question and ask them to please clean up their dishes or to shower instead etc. Instead you left her a note telling her to get out right before exam time… seriously – you guys are

Moira you should talk to the actual landlord. Find out what agreement is in place and go from there (if there is none then get one with your name on it and kick them out …hahaha). Maybe the landlord will have some suggestions or even another place for you. Removing your thing could get them charged with theft (I think) I’m pretty sure you have to be behind in rent for there to be a reason for them to kick you out. messy is not a reason in the laws eyes.
