I’m finding myself more and more pissed off lately by the pushy seniors on their motor scooters.

Ok, so at one point, you had a disability, you at that point had the right to put yourself ahead of others, in that we should help you out, and give you the right of way, and the like.

But all that stops when you suddenly jump way ahead of the pack evolutionarily by adding wheels and a motor to your body. No longer are you disabled, you are now super-abled, so when you are riding down the sidewalk, and there are people ahead of you or coming towards you, have some damn courtesy and wait your turn. Move over and make room for the people still using their inferior vehicles. It’s actually scary when you’re walking along with your headphones in and suddenly there’s a small car speeding past you, 2 inches away.

So while you might be hurting outside of your scooter, you’re half robot when you’re in it and need to realize that the rest of the public doesn’t need to make way for you, you need to respect their lesser capabilities and stop being so pushy.

—And people get mad at bikes on the sidewalks…

  1. Just remind them the probable reason they are in such a hurry is because they’re probably going to be dead soon.

Takes all the fun out of their motor scooter joyride.

  2. If they got flats would they then go back to being disabled. They would also need to be retired…again.

  3. The ones who feel they have the right to drive down a main street on the damn things…doesn’t piss me off…it freaks me out ! I came around the corner where Portland Street turns to go downhill by Gaston Rd & almost took out a guy coming up the wrong side of the road, driving on the street (& the sidewalk was clear) on a dark colored scooter.
Next time I’m not going around the asshole…I’ll stop & let them go around me…hopefully someone else will take them out & I’ll get to enjo…I mean watch it ,then come to their defense if they’re charged !

  4. holy shit i didn’t see this when i bitched earlier; these people have gone mental on these things and they are on a mission to mess some younger pedestrians up; i predict trouble of some kind sooner or later in this matter

  5. ps what is it with the oldies these days so many of them are fucking foul;what are you so pissy about people you’ve got it good compared to bullshit world you left us

  6. Hey More… I live in that area, I think I know the bastard you’re talking about

Back on subject, old people (or people in general) who use electic wheelchairs/scooters can be total assholes… A couple months ago someone using one of these devices actually ran into my boyfriend, the person didn’t even say “excuse me”, or “sorry”… They just kept motoring along, even though they ended up smashing into the pocket that had his PSP… which I bought for him, and yes it broke… thank god for warranties!

  7. oh well soon i’ll be in whistler then vancouver where there’s no old people to speak of; they’re all in victoria:)

  8. I used to live in that big ugly apartment building on Quinpool Road and there was this big fat black woman, not disabled aside from her monstrous size, who rode around in an even bigger scooter. This thing was seriously the size of a car and would take up the entire elevator so no one else could get on. I always couldnt help but thinking, lady, the LAST thing you need is to be scooting around in a motorized scooter! Get off your fat ass and walk again.

On the other hand, if George Costanza can do it, why can’t the rest of us?

And what ever happened to the Segway?

  9. The cops aren’t sure how to deal with scooter complaints either. They’re not a motor vehicle, they’re not an ATV or tractor… the old timers should get the message to keep a low profile before some citizen forces another bylaw with all their bitchin’.

  10. So you can’t ride your scooter while drunk? Ok, but I’m thinking most of the times the problem isn’t alcohol, its age.

  11. did you hear about the 83 year old in ontario who ran the red light and killed that mom who was pushing her baby in a stroller yesterday? Age indeed.

  12. @Miles:OMG…it happened in Canada now too? There is an ongoing case in Britain where an 80+ lady ran into a mother and then her 2 year old. The 2 year old was stuck underneath the oldcooter scooter and the old lady kept going…while the mother ran behind her screaming for her to stop. Bystanders had to physically force her to stop and then had to take her keys because she kept trying to leave.

Luckily the two year old survived but she has some pretty bad damage to her head.

  13. and why do i have to wear a helmet (good idea though), have lights front and rear, and obey all the rules of the road when i’m on my bike when these “people” don’t have to?
they zip up and down the sidewalk, go the wrong way on the streets and you can’t even see them at night. wonder what the deal would be if i ran one over at night because i couldn’t see them in time to stop?
