Carpet: It’s nice and smooth on your feet in the morning, it’s fun to do sit ups or push ups on, you can lay on it and stretch or watch TV and not pinch an ass nerve, but it’s disgusting.
Halifax landlords, rip up the carpet already, it’s no longer something people enjoy having and tell their friends about. No one says to their friends:
“Wow, you should see the carpet in my apartment.”
Instead they say:
“Wow, you should see the carpet in my apartment.”
The tone in the latter obviously implies disgust.
RIP IT UP. —Carpet Bomber

  1. A few good points going for carpet at times, but would prefer to have all hard surface floors in my next place. As long as I do not have ‘tap dancers’ or folks constantly wearing high heels living above me. Have been through that type of thing before. Ready for a fully ‘carpeted’ room after that stuff! ☹

  2. Having been both an apartment dweller and someone who has worked in property management, there are 2 main reasons carpet gets left in apartments.

    1) Carpeted apartments echo less. This means less calls to harried property managers about “those noisy arseholes upstairs” – complaints usually being made by the downstairs neighbours of the people who call…

    2) It costs a big chunk of change to tear up carpet and replace it with laminate. And if you have a bunch of tenants who don’t give shit one about their apartment, they’ll have it mangled before they move out, making you have to redo it again.

I agree, carpet sucks, but it’s cheaper to clean it than replace laminate when someone moves out, and it allows property owners to charge less because the carpet’s grungy.

  3. The carpet in my place is THE ONLY reason that I am considering not renewing my lease. It’s disgusting, no matter how much I deep clean, and my cats like to scratch certain areas(doorways), so I’ve had to put rugs down over it. So gross. I really don’t want to pay for a claw damaged shitty old carpet. It needs to be gone.
If landlords MUST put carpet in, at least the low pile, industrial kind would be a kinder choice. It traps less dirt than high pile, and is much more forgiving to cat’s claws and stains. (p.s. I love my cats, and would never de-claw)

  4. Carpet is also much less of a hassle in case of water ingress compared to laminate or, god forbid, actual hardwood.

  5. Then again, the owners had to redo the entire apartment due to water damage some time before I moved in and put carpet everywhere but the kitchen. Took it upon myself to tear the damn thing out and install nice laminate in one of the rooms to have a proper dining room area and I’m considering doing the living room next.

Turns out the previous floor was parquet glued directly to the concrete. The contractor who stripped it to install the carpet did a botched job (not noticeable due to the omghuge underfloor mat) but I did need a good two weeks of heavy chemical exposure and elbow grease to scrape the leftovers off the concrete before installing the laminate. <_<

  6. Carpet is great for kids, not so great for pets. Laminate looks nicer but you can’t get it wet. Carpet is warmer than laminate. Laminate is easier to clean. I can take either.

  7. everytime someone moves out of where i live, the owner takes up the carpet now. and he puts down wood flooring. looks nice, but furiture being moved on it, really fucks it up. he had tp replace the floor in one twice already. seems people don’t know how to lift shit to move it anymore. that is the only trouble i have seen with this laminate flooring shit.
give me the nice old warm on the feet, warm in winter carpet anyday. and if you are to lazy, or stupid to clean yours, then fuck you.

  8. and having carpet burns on your bum and knees, is fun too. never forget all the good shagging(hee) that goes on when you have some on your floor.

  9. I would love to put hardwood in my units, the problem is tenants simply don’t give a shit about your place and the laughable security deposit isn’t enough to cover all the damage by said tenants. Carpet is easier to replace and cheaper.

BTW: No animals allowed in my units for the reason above about the guy is allowing his cat to tear up the carpet and then thinks he’s fixing it by putting a rug over it. Plus EVERY animal stinks, I don’t care how much a prospective tenant tells me that their animal is well behaved and doesn’t stink…..they stink!!

  10. I obviously don’t “allow” my cats to tear up the carpet, but it’s the nature of the beast. The rugs actually are working, as long as the edges stay secured, plus I have scratching posts galore. My kitties are very much loved. When you enter my place, you can’t smell cats. My landlord drops in on minutes’ notice, and is impressed with my cleanliness. This rental agency runs a tight ship, and has beautiful units. I respect this, and it shows by the condition of my unit.

  11. when we had cats they clawed on the four by four post we had in the basement. ah yes, the edges of the carpet once they have a bit peeled, the back legs came out…time for disembowelment^^

  12. I fully support the anti-carpet agenda – and maybe the lady who is averse to shaving a few posts up will get the hint, lol

  13. “I respect this, and it shows by the condition of my unit.”

ok, now I’m not sure… maybe she is a guy.
or were you in a miss universe pageant lately?

  14. Anyone who would call someone a diddler because they don’t want a mouthful of hair… has some serious issues. Just like how those who demonize homosexuality the most are usually closet homosexuals – and I guess those who demonize depilation are in fact closet pedophiles :S

  15. carpet vs parquet…i’ll take carpet…carpet vs cheap light colored laminate…i’ll take carpet…carpet vs a nice dark laminate…i’ll take the laminate…but yes…kids equals carpet…and I have had many cats over the years …have none now…and cats always smell atleast a little no matter how clean the owner is…sometimes its just a little if the owner is very good with litter boxes…but those with no pets can smell it…i promise you…atleast a little…unless you have outdoor cats…but thats cruel

  16. AGREE completely! These carpet stains suck – rip it up. Fuckin slumlords & their shitpits
