Thank you only cuts it for the occasional lift.

For ongoing transportational kindnesses, don’t just sit there sponging off of somebody. Don’t offer gas or parking money. Insist that it’s taken or leave it as you depart. At the very least, hand over a decent bottle of wine each week. A $13 or $14 bottle compared to money you’re saving is a drop in the bucket.

Don’t ask somebody to go out of their way for you because you don’t want to inconvenience your spouse. Don’t ask someone to go out of their way for you because you’re lazy. Walk if it’s feasible. You probably need the exercise anyway.

One shouldn’t have to spell these things out. —Miss Manners

  1. if someone offered me cash for a ride, i would be offended. meaning that if i asked you, and you didn’t ask me. i have never asked anyone that i invited to pay one cent.

  2. “Walk if it’s feasible” OH OP we need to scream this at ppl.

I park my car 6 blocks away from school, takes me apprx 15 mins to walk to class in the cold, snow, rain whatever, every morning and this bitch was posting online for someone to pick them up as shorter distance than what I walk daily … no mother flippin way! Nuh uh. Nope.

Like LS said, if I invite you, the first few rides … consider them “free”. If we’re gonna make this part of the daily routine … I would hope (notice I didn’t say expect) some sort of petrol money is in order …

  4. If I had a car and the person was both on my way and going my way (carpool) I would never accept money from them. That would make me a giant douche.

And of course if someone straight-up offers me money and i say no out of some imagined politeness, then turn around and bitch them out behind their backs because they didn’t INSIST i take it, that would make me a giant passive-aggressive douche.

But whatever op, you do what you gotta do..

  5. And furthermore, if i had a car and someone asked me to be their chauffeur during this shit and terror bus strike, I would come right out and ask them for gas money in exchange for me being their personal taxi instead of expecting someone to read my mind.

But I’m a little more upfront and honest than Miss Manners i reckon..
