Why are people in a certain part of ScareView such pigs? Why is there constantly bags of garbage and other crap sitting right out in plain view in the parking lot (when the bin is maybe 20 feet away). Why are people in Scare View such degenrate scum? Why do I stick around?

Maybe they are old people who need help to the garbage bin whith their bags. Stop bitching and clean up your shitty neighborhood OP. jjkng…but really though!
Maybe because Fairview is a shitty neighbourhood? Could be?
I’ve lived in Scare View twice – fuck, I should have learned from the first time. Scare View is a filthy greasy little suburb full of addicts and trailer trash who ruin it for everyone else in the neighbourhood. It is not a very safe place either – most of the hard-core drug dealers live on Evans Avenue so there’s always a steady stream of sketchy people around.
Too true, sketchbags galore!
My last Scare View experience: A woman came out of her crappy apartment building down the street, walked up to where I was waiting for a bus and asked me for a cigarette. I didn’t have one, and told her so. She hung around the bus stop for a couple minutes and walked back to her building. She must have seen me from her window or something… creepy.
So anyway, lots of crazy sketchbags = trashy neighbourhood. Sorry. I’d try Dartmouth.
[Assuming I know which property you’re talking about, which I think I do…]
The landlord is responsible for ensuring the garbage is placed kerbside on the correct day, and seems not to care. For what it’s worth, the landlord doesn’t live in ‘ScareView’ so in this case your frustration is misdirected (not to say all SV residents are perfect, but most are OK IMO).
Dude, only a small part of Fairview is trash like Evans Ave. I grew up at the top of Fairview by Fairview Junior High, and it’s nice up there. It’s very middle/working class, but I NEVER saw the trashy shit you guys are talking about.
Sure, Main Ave and surrounding areas (top, middle, and bottom) are shit holes, but the rest of Fairview is decent.
Agreed, Lindsay, the further up the hill, the better the houses and people. The area I’m referring to is just above and below Titus which would include Main and the Evans Ave apartments. That area’s been tainted with drugs and bootleggers since I was a young thang.
People here are slamming Fairview and, in particular, Main and Evans Avenues. I’m not familiar with Evans, but certainly Main is OK. There are a few apartment buildings near the intersection with Titus that I’d probably avoid, but like everywhere it depends on how selective the landlord is – I could certainly point out a number of properties in the South End that are way more ‘iffy’ than anything on Main Avenue.
I also think that Fairview in general – and Main Avenue in particular – is enjoying something of a renaissance. Provided you find a good landlord then you’ll live in a good building, whether it’s on the peninsular, Bedford, Dartmouth or Fairview etc.
I lived across from the apartments on Main Ave. for six fucking years and got a real education in trailer trash culture. If there wasn’t nonstop, smashy-smashy partiers, garbage bags strewn all over the place – the tenants would often resort to taking their fights to the sidewalk – Jesus H. Fucking Christ, one of the kids learned the word ‘FUCK’ when he was three because he’d watch them out our bathroom window. Try explaining that to your babysitter as your kid’s singing FUCKFUCKFUCKITYFUCK! to all the other little ankle biters. That’s when I decided to move out of Mainland Halifax.
parts of the neighborhood should be bulldozed and the riffraff driven out…..the dealers, the welfare leeches, etc…..
all hail John Galt
I’ve lived on Main Ave for 2 years now. I moved here because it was cheap and at the time I was getting out of a bad situation with an ex, and didn’t have a lot of money or options. My apartment is large and was renovated. The building itself looked a little run down on the outside, but has since been resided, all new windows installed, and they are redoing apartments one by one as people move out. Further down the ave, towards downtown, there are a few buildings i looked at that were total sketchville, like the OP and a few others were talking about, and further up the hill, around evans etc, i find downright scary…But I LOVE my apartment. In two years, the only noise from people fighting I’ve heard is coming from the backside of the buildings behind mine (my apt is on a corner, so I see 4 other buildings in total) on the next street over, and even that is rare. Plus there is a huge fence separating us, so I’m not as worried about it. It’s mainly older people and young students here, and I’m not afraid to come home here in the dark after the bar like I would be at some places. I live in the second building off Titus, and it’s very rare to see garbage strewn about here. I really dont mind Fairview.
Fairview…you mean people still live there?
i am a live in landlord and really learned a lesson from trash in my building. it’s not always the landlord’s fault but the trash in it!!
Small Time Landlord, you are sadly misinformed. That will be the day when the landlord is responsible for the tenant getting your trash to the receptacle, curb, whatever. It’s written right into the NS Standard Lease… the landlord might be responsibile for providing a receptacle but that’s it.
