I am in a state of utter outrage after reading Fashion Assassin’s uncalled for attack on hiking boots in the city. Is it wrong to make an effort to keep snow away from my socks? Hiking boots are the most durable footwear available to the public. I can’t afford to constantly buy fresh ass Nikes only to have them destroyed by the elements. Also, I disagree with your generalization that they are “ugly”. With the right clothes and outerwear they can make you look rugged, down to earth, adventurous and most importantly, anything but a slave to ridiculous winter footwear trends. I hope that one of the many Halifax mountain boot wearers overhears you bitching on the street and boots you in the face.

I remember being a junior high teenager in the mid-1980’s when everyone (except me) jumped on the Miami Vice imitation bandwagon and were all wearing deck shoes with no socks outdoors in JANUARY.
This just shows how smart so called “fashion” experts are and how little stock I put in them. Keep on hikin’ my friend!
I remember the no socks era. Foot fungus fashion was not cool at all.
You know what pisses me off? People who do not dress appropriately for the weather. Inevitably, they end up sick and it is the dweebs who care more about their health than fashion that must cover your too-cool ass.
By the way, snot, phlegm, vomit and your red, raw, pucker hole are way less attractive then a person wearing hiking boots.
Fashion, or function? That is the question.
As a man, I need something comfy and don’t want to really care what it looks like. However, as a recent bachelor male in his mid-twenties who loves the ladies, I also realize I need to look good, too! Yeah yeah, “just be yourself,” etc. etc. Doesn’t always work when you just wanna get some.
Being trendy is the unmistakable hallmark of a follower.
Wait’ll they see my tin foil Birkenstocks.
Vuarnet t-shirts are coming back, baby!
Actaully, HKM, going out in the cold not properly dressed can’t make you sick. The only things that can cause you to become sick are germs and viruses.
Despite what your grandmother may tell you, going out without a scarf, or going out with wet hair won’t cause a cold or the flu.
Cranky – I LOVED Vuarnet t-shirts. And Chip ‘n Pepper!
yeah, just potential frostbite… especially if you have wet hair…
I go for more of the full boot type anyways…
hell, if this is all you have to complain about, you’re living pretty well.
Who cares if someone else doesn’t like your hikers?
I know the cold doesn’t make you sick, but I thought if your body is forced to use much energy in an attempt to keep you warm, it diverts the energy used to protect you from the infiltration of viruses and germs.
try hiking in the snow, with a pair of sandels and shorts on then fool. see if that makes you look real cool. how about frozen, asscicle.
