What did you expect for $800./mo downtown? We live in Clayton Park and we pay over $1,100/mo. We don’t have any of those problems.
HOLY FUCK! I pay $1100 a month for my mortgage – I can’t imagine paying that goddamn much for a rental – $13,200 a year? Mind you, I have taxes and maintenance but thank fuck it’s mine.
Try looking outside the Halifax core. Rents are way too high for what you get basically because of the universities and the fact that people think that’s the place to be.
I also live downtown. I can tell you that $800 a month for rent is actually quite cheap. If you are looking for better accomodations for your $800 a month I would suggest Clayton Park, Dartmouth or the North End.
Dear Elbee I agree it’s high, but we never know from one month to the next when or if we’ll be sent to Toronto or New York. Better to give a 30 day notice and be gone than try to sell a house and try to get back what you put into it. Been there, done that … sux. I hope we don’t have to leave N.S. It’s the closest thing to paradise we’ve ever lived in. We’ve only been here 3-1/2 yrs. and absolutely love it.
Dude! I live in Fairview, and I pay $675 for a perfectly nice three bedroom apartment. It’s not fancy, but the landlord takes good care of the place and most of the neighbors are tolerable. It’s a small building with a bit of yard, so I have even have a garden which nobody has ever disturbed in 8 years. Fairview has a bad reputation, but I’ve lived here for 10 years with no problems. Maybe you should think about getting out of the snooty areas. Sounds like you’re getting screwed.
you guys are crazy!! I live in Plaza, behind scotia square, and I pay $845, we have a giant swimming pool, indoors, and outdoors, a hot tub, a sauna, a gym, and the best view of citadel hill you could imagine!! and the apartment is huge. In Scotia, the building next to us, 1 bedrooms are $730-$800 and the apartments are also very big, with electricity included!! and for $850 in MAckeen, you can get Heat, hot water, electricty and cable included, and a big apartment with a balcony!!ANDDDDDDDDDDDIn cunard court, for like $850, you can get 1 bedroom, heat, hw, electricity, balcony, dishwasher and washer and dryer in your apartment!! EVERYTHING INCLUDED (except your phone of course…)I dont know WHERE you guys are looking for apartments, but you are doing a horrible job!!!!!!!!!
We found a place on Robie – and the area is quiet – I don’t have to walk in or around the previous night’s puke on the sidewalks….Thanks for the advice/comments everyone. And it’s Paramount. Don’t go with them.
