Hopefully you learned that it is people like you who cause accidents. You have the right of way not the person getting out of the driveway. It is a nice gesture to let someone out but on busy multi-lane (or ridiculously wide) streets it is not always the right thing to do as someone will swerve around you (we’re not mind readers, for all we know you’re stopped for no fucking reason). Also, someone coming out of a driveway should not back out, this is almost asking for trouble (back into traffic with a reduced view, stop on the road, shift gears, then speed up (utterly slow for some people)), pulling out is far safer and faster. I don’t understand why people don’t pull out, especially on busy streets…
Fred your kidding right , your saying it’s the OP’s fault for stopping to let the person out of their driveway . Thats just stupid instead of someone swerving around a stopped car in the middle of the road why not slow down or hell maybe even stop too and check whats going on , you know just in case .Obviously if the person is stopped in the middle of the street there is a reason , I wouldnt think its just to piss other drivers off . But I do agree with you on the backing into a driveway and driving out instead of the other way around thats just defensive driving 101 .And to everyone out there if there is a car stopped in the middle of the street for god sakes dont just swerve around them and flip them the bird on the way by , slow down or stop figure out whats wrong shit it might take a minute out of you busy day big fucking deal . Sure beats running someone over or getting in a accident .
Question~ If you can’t turn around IN your driveway, you don’t really have much of a choice but to pull in only to have to back out later. It would be near impossible to back into your driveway DURING traffic, wouldn’t it?
KMB no, not at all. The OP was on the road, clipping along and stops. He has the right of way, keep driving. They don’t teach you in driver’s ed to stop to let someone back out of their driveway. Of course most people would stop to figure out why buddy ahead is stopped, but some people aren’t paying attention and would rear-end you or do like the red car bitch. I would rather not be in that situation.mimi: If truckers can back an 18-wheeler in a narrow driveway on Coburg road, surely people can manage to back a small car into their own driveway. Pull over to the side of the road (with your turn signal on), and when there is a moment, back it in.
I agree people should stop, smell the roses and be kind to their neighbors but don’t stop on any highway. It’s dangerous and can lead drivers to believe it’s safe for them to proceed onto a highway when it’s not.Fred, I totally agree with you. Driving in NS is bizarre and quite dangerous because of this way of thinking… that it’s nice to stop on a highway to yield to a driveway or some other does-not-have-the-right-away kind of road. I moved here right after they changed the way the rotary works to match the way traffic circles work in the rest of the world. I heard part of the problem was this sort of yielding nonsense leading to traffic jams.OP, by stopping like that and causing the red car behind you to swerve into the next lane to avoid hitting you, you put the lives of the mother and her children at risk. If they had been nailed it would have been their own fault for proceeding onto a highway when it was not safe to do so. Yet, you were likely blocking her vision of oncoming traffic with all your niceness. If she had been hit you’d be in quite an ethical conundrum right now. Just follow the rules of the road and leave your warm fuzzy feelings out of it. We’ll all be much safer on the road if you do.
fred first of all no i didnt learn my lesson i stopped on a street not a highway to let someone back out as being a mind reader well you would have to have one first car stopped maybe someone was hit that is called common sense again street not highway that is also for you kay i have no idea where you got that from do you live with fred anyway fred next time you get in a car could you please not turn the key on if you do that only means you will have to probably back out i suppose if no one stops your the type that would give the middle finger thanks for all the advice now i know how to drive better thanks fred
Holy crap, I ran out of breath reading that sentence! Robert, the period key is in the lower right area of your keyboard, right above the “alt” key. The comma key is conveniently located right beside it.
Robert, get a clue please and stop it with the ineffective insults.”Streets” are “highways”.Highway1. a main road, esp. one between towns or cities: the highway between Los Angeles and Seattle.2. any public road or waterway.3. any main or ordinary route, track, or course. The definition above is pretty close to what’s written in our highway traffic act. (i.e. If it’s not a “highway” it’s a private “driveway”).You’ll also find I am quite correct as to who would be at fault if a collision did occur.BTW I’d be safer and would much rather be driving behind Fred
Did I mention I drive a red car AND I’m a total bitch?LMAO This post might be about me! In fact, it probably is. Robert, did you get the finger? If so, that was probably me *giggles*
Mimi it is actually illegal to back out of a driveway into oncoming traffic. So unless you have room to turn around and drive back out, you are required by law to back into your driveway and drive safely out into traffic.
Illegal to back out of a driveway? Where does it say that?
well kay i am really sorry if i insulted you so i don’t know how to type or drive so you will read this anyway but i really don’t think your a bitch your probably a decent lady maybe with a finger problem okay as i was driving down the highway on south park street did i say street sorry

Robert, seriously dude, punctuation is your friend. That shit is unreadable.
No, Robert, I am a bitch. I admit it. No need to apologize. But Miranda’s right, punctuation is your friend *grin* And guess what? Boulevards, avenues, ways, drives, places, circles, streets… they’re all highways. If you got the finger from me on the road it’s because you scared the crap out of me doing something stupid. I commend you for wanting to be courteous and nice. The world needs more nice people.Coffee, uh no thank you. Sorry. Desi would have my hide 😛

that one was a long onehope everyone has a good nightyou as well kay just kidding you to
I thought it was illegal to pass on the inside, perhaps not but it is definitely dangerous. Perhaps you could look up the word: road. While you are at it you may as well read up on driving a vehicle, sounds like you could use a refresher or lesson on driving.
So, when the traffic in the left lane is stopped, say, waiting to turn left thru oncoming traffic to enter a driveway (not at a corner, not at an intersection, not at a crosswalk, a single line dividing the road) should the traffic in the right lane stop until the left turn is made? Uh, no, please don’t.Is this ‘passing on the inside’? No. Passing on the inside means you don’t cross the road’s dividing line to pass, instead you drive on the shoulder… another stupid and illegal move.Everybody, please learn how to drive. Thank you.
This was one of the most amusing bitches in a while. Robert, the point was that you have the right of way, keep it so you don’t cause any accidents. The person pulling out of his/her driveway will do so when there is time for it to be safely done. They will ensure this especially when they have a baby on board. Funny how you suggest that I don’t have a mind when I am the one forming sentences and making arguments… And FYI, I never back out on a busy road, street, or highway.
Fred, you’re really under Robert’s skin. He’s started a whole new thread about this. Better add your post to that one lest he miss the point all together. He’s ‘new’, ya know? haha
