Commenting on bitches is an element of LTWWB. If you don’t like that element, you have the option of not reading the comments. You talk about getting a life and yet, given your familiarity with the regular cast of commentators, it would appear to me that you spend as much time here as we do; you’r just a passive observer rather than a frequent contributor. Please tell me, how are the bitches made less interesting by the fact that people comment on them? I don’t get that logic at all. The bitch itself isn’t altered by the fact that someone comments on it; it isn’t somehow transformed from a lame bitch (which the majority of bitches here are) to something really interesting. My present comment on the third-order bitches is therefore a fourth-order bitch. In philosophical terms, we have entered here what is called a “vicious regress.” Now the question becomes whether the regress can be capped and become “non-vicious.” This is a serious problem as a vicious regress drains all discourse of its meaning. Let’s look more closely at the problem.
A vicious regress is one with no upper limit and therefore without a terminus, a resolution. It is therefore similar, philosophically speaking, to a “circular assertion,” one in which the “definiendum” (that which is to be defined) is logically contained in the “definiens” (the definition itself). For example, we say “A bachelor is an unmarried man,” but the definiens “unmarried man” is logically identical to the definiendum, “a bachelor.” KAll dictionary definitions are of this sort and so are philosophically unhelpful. If the folks at the Coast are seriously concerned that the LTTWB comments are contrary to their intent for this forum … they are entitled to delete them just as you are entitled to report them. Furthermore, they can go ahead and implement an application process where we all have to submit samples of our writing and state our view on every conceivable topic before being approved to post. Would that please you? Perhaps you could volunteer your time to fill the position since, I’m guessing, the Coast would not be keen to add this paid position to their full time employee compliment.
We don’t all have the same thoughts/feelings/opinions; we aren’t all in the category of literary genius; we aren’t all in the category of politically correct; we haven’t all had the same life experiences that heavily influence what we choose to write in a bitch comment.
