So I’ll start off by saying I am not a religious person, but I’m all for believing what you want and I’ll believe what I want. A very close relative of mine recently passed away suddenly, and I had to attend his funeral over the weekend. His local priest who had been his priest and “friend” for the past 25 years went up front to speak to the crowd. He proceeded to give a 15 minute speech about how the reason our family was snatched away from us suddenly is because we had all become lax in our donations to the church as well as attendance. My relative was in a wheelchair and in constant pain for the past 4 years but still managed to get to church 2 or 3 times a month, but according to the priest if he had not of missed those church gatherings maybe he would still be here today. Wow.. I would have had a word or two with him after the ceremony for sure. Would have taken a lot for me not to choke him. I’ve had good experiences with priests at the last few funerals I’ve been to, I couldn’t imagine that.

When my brother died, his minister announced at the funeral that because the rest of his (grieving) family weren’t reformed presbyterians, that we’re all gonna fry!
Half of my family refused to go to my cousins wedding because she wasn’t having it in a church. The ensuing family Battle Royale ended with my cousin eloping to Iceland.
There’s nothing wrong with religious people, only religious fanatics.

Jesus H Titty Fucking Christ!!! That has got to be one of the all time lows in funeral history. It baffles me why any minister/priest would think that a time of tragedy would be a good time to publically embarrass and harass grieving friends and relatives. Absolutely tasteless in every conceivable aspect. If something like that happened to a family member of mine, that fuckwad would have been told (at that very second, interruption be damned) that, that type of church politics is inappropriate at this time, and to please have respect for the grieving family.

Very odd subjects for a priest, at least if this was a R.C. priest, to touch on at a funeral service. It just does not mix at all. Unless there have been big changes very recently. And also very odd for a priest to be a priest in the same parish, for 25 years – unless your relative may have moved to other parishes, where he was posted. However, if this did happen the family would be quite in their right to have expressed their disappointment to him directly, and certainly not give him an honorarium and then make a complaint directly to the Bishop, or Archbishop, depending on where the parish is located.

When someone was preaching their morals or values on others I use to tell them that wasn’t very Christian of them. Now I realize I was wrong, that when people are dictating morals and being judgmental it is actually them being very Christian like. Christianity is very judgmental and has caused many wars, family problems & actual hatred. That can’t be a good a good thing. I have never seen an atheist or agnostic people hold a sign with hateful and crude messages.
