Okay, I get it. We are in a city and there are rodents everywhere. HOWEVER the city needs to do SOMETHING about the rat issues in residential areas. It is getting quite out of hand. We have had a rat issue in our neighbourhood and with new construction it is getting much, MUCH worse. They are digging tunnels and getting in the walls, basements and homes. We have trapped, poisoned and called exterminators. This has cost a lot of time and resources and it SUCKS FOR TENANTS! We shouldn’t have to be paying full rent for rat-infested apartments. Sure they look nice and well kept…until you can’t sleep at night. Can’t HRM do something to help? —Murderer of at LEAST 25 rats and counting

  1. Yeah Rats are scary when they live in your walls. An old basement apartment I had had that problem — it’s almost as bad as bed bugs (thankfully, I’ve never had to deal with that one). I had a cat so I never saw one actually get into my apartment but I did hear them scratching away in the walls by my bed and it made sleeping there very unpleasant, I was always scared I’d wake up to a rat biting my face. I did hear one get caught in a trap upstairs though and it screamed so loud and ungodly and rattled the cage so fiercely that it sounded like it could be as large as a raccoon. I never want to hear that again.

  2. ^^^ “I did hear one get caught in a trap upstairs though and it screamed so loud and ungodly …”

That was just your neighbours. They’re into cosplay. You know – rat costumes, giant fake trap, fake blood, squealing… and eventually rat sex….. it’s all pretty weird ….. but that’s cosplay for you…to each their own.

  3. I heard some type of rat-fight, once. They were screeching and rolling around, bouncing off the interior of the walls. It was horrifying. Plugged all the holes in the foundation we could find with steel wool and within 2 weeks, the stench of the dead trapped rats was also horrifying. Once that went away, it was smooth sailing!

  4. Some rats decided to make a nest over my ceiling just over a year ago, before Winter 2015 set in. Rats in the house is always bad news, never mind all the scratching and gnawing at the crack of dawn. What I found very effective in evicting them from the premises, is this:

[Rat distress calls, I think it was recorded on a remote terrier with the lower frequency growling muted] There’s another 20 minute loop of similar noises elsewhere on YT.
Played at loud volume on my laptop, right near the ceiling. It works. Screaming rats on loop for 30 minutes at a time is not their idea of a nice place to live. Backed it up with a trap and killed one. Bye bye rat family.

  5. Get a cat, I sell all kinds of this rodent removal crap at my work, Poisioning them is a really bad idea, We do that at work and they crawl under stuff you can’t get at and start rotting and the smell is horrible, I grew up with cats and in a 100 year old house, We had rodents when we moved in, Got a cat in 2000 and never saw one again, I’ve have my cat since 2002, She even kills spiders, Awesome!
