  1. Anyone see any baby raccoons or deer in their yards? I ask as making any other comment on this one will probably result in being banned… Don’t be baited!

  2. Mine walked free to, OB. It was 16 years ago. I was dragged off to the major crimes unit building in Dartmouth, treated like a criminal, and told that maybe my clothes were the problem.

  3. This is not a bitch. It’s a tragedy.

Please continue to seek professional help. This forum is not a help line. It is anything but.

I question the moderator’s extremely poor judgement, posting something as serious as this on a relatively light-hearted board. For shame!

  4. It’s very sad that one of the first instincts for many people is to blame the victim of any crime – whether it be rape, robbery, assault, whatever. It seems that some folks want to jump to the convenient explanation of saying that the victims were in the wrong place, walked alone too late at night, trusted the wrong person, drank too much, didn’t secure their property well enough, wore the wrong clothes. It’s as if they want to shift blame to the victim or to feel that they have been spared from crime themselves because they are so responsible and cautious.

It’s also sad that our society is far too tolerant of and tries to make excuses for bad behaviour and crime. People usually don’t just spontaneously commit crimes as an adult. There is usually a long history of their bad behaviour (bullying, theft, assaulting other children) being tolerated from childhood. And when they do commit serious crimes everyone searches for some abuse in their past that will explain and partially excuse their crimes.

As a society we need to start holding people accountable for their actions – even children (and their parents) because by the time they are adults it may just be too late – and we need to stop making the victims feel responsible. We all have a right to live a crime free life.

  5. Hey Mod! Where’s my comment? I’m with Ying on this one. My comment, that apparently was removed, mentioned this type of concern.

  6. My advice to ANYONE who has been sexually assaulted is to call the police and go to Emergency to have a rape kit test done. DO NOT change your clothes or clean yourself up in anyway as it will remove IMPORTANT evidence, which could very well lock in a conviction of the perpetrator. I know it is traumatic and icky and you just want to wash it all out but you only help the perp and handcuff police. It will feel awful at the time but hopefully by undergoing some discomfort at the time it will evolve into extreme satisfaction when the idiot is put away.

  7. Good question, Senor. I was distressed to see this post in the print edition. Certainly a lapse of editorial judgement. This is an extremely serious issue, not a bitch board topic.

  8. Dear OP, please find someone you trust to confide in.

This forum is really not equipped to provide the advice you need. It’s not that people don’t care, it’s just that what you describe is far too serious, and with too many questions and too many legal issues to discuss properly here.

    All the best to you.

  9. This person has obviously dealt with their demons enough to write decent prose about it, calm down people, accept it for what it is.

In fact, if you read even half of the poem you will discover that the author talks about seeking professional help and the entire thing is a reflection on that experience. I respect this poem as it may not be my personal reality but it 100& reflects the frustration, anger, disgust and in relatively few words.

Sometimes I wonder if people even bother considering the subjects they talk about before formulating a definitive position on the topic.

  10. yes op, he probably will. you would have to be a 70 yr old nun with multiple stab wounds.

    I like your poem. succinct.
