I’m so sorry I had to put you to sleep. I spent ages trying to find a way to allow you to make your own decision regarding your fate but you’re a cat and you can’t always tell me exactly what you want. And you were succumbing to lung cancer. And I finally decided I couldn’t watch you asphyxiate to death.

You were my best friend. It was hard to hold you while you died but I wanted the last thing you ever knew to be that I loved you and was right by your side. You gave me many wonderful years of friendship and happiness. I’ll never forget you. I promise I’ll take care of the Turnip and Baby Zen.

I love you, Rico. —Mommy

  1. no matter how hard it is, you did the best thing you could for him. holding him and not letting him go without your arms around him.

  2. I had to endure the same thing to. After 15 years growing up with your best friend/family member it is so very hard to make a choice as hard as this one. You did the right thing.

  3. I’m sorry to read this. I had to put my favorite little pet friend of 14 years down this past summer. He had a massive tumor growing on his neck that seemed to appear overnight. He was suffering and I also had to make the tough call. I was there with him to the end, with my son. I still think of the little guy. Sounds like your little buddy was loved very much, and with all that you hear about animal mistreatment, that is a blessing unto itself OP 🙂

  4. PS I may just name my next pet Turnip… hope you don’t mind and I’m sure my Elmo would’ve approved 🙂

  5. I don’t even want to think how hard it would be to put my guy down…
it’s hard enough going away for a few days, let alone eternity.
    :*-(
