I’m on the 20 bus to downtown when a Muslim woman gets on the bus with her toddler in a stroller. (On a side note, no one in the front seats moved for her so she had to stand in the middle of the isle with her child). Behind me, a conversation goes on about how the woman’s baby is “so cute.” The woman behind me says, “Yeah, she’s cute until she gets to school and becomes a terrorist.” Oh Halifax, you’re a city blinded by this illusion of diversity, tolerance and acceptance. How can it be that a child, no older than three-years-old, be subject to this xenophobic cruelty? Incidents like these are only the tip of the iceberg of systematic and oppressive processes that people of colour, like the Muslim woman and her daughter, experience on a daily basis. —Tired Of This Hate

Yet you said nothing.
This didn’t happen. Some CFA-University child wrote this because they’re unhappy with their lot in life. Some knob published it because they too are a CFA-university child, unhappy with their lot in life.
3 year old boy on bus wearing tiny football jersey.
“He is sooooo cute!”
“Yeah, until he grows up to be a rapist”
“LOL you should totally write for Amy Shumer!”
Fake bitch, fake outrage. Probably written by the same Chronically Horrid hack who reported on the alleged ‘schoolyard terrorist’ months back.
OP is a dumbass. Only a dumbass would pass judgement over an enire city for the words of one ignorant bus passenger
Important to point out these racist incidents; also important not to imagine this is “because Halifax.”
A Muslim woman in New York City was set on fire a few weeks ago. Someone in Toronto tried to push a woman in a hijab in front of a subway a few months back. A mosque in the very liberal university town of Peterborough was burned down last year.
This shit is everywhere. It’s deep in western society. All this “Halifax is racist” shit both A: Makes us out to be worse than we are, and B: Implies other cities are less racist, which wrongly lets them off the hook.
OB, last time I checked the priority seating was for elderly and handicapped people only.
Also, wouldn’t it be pretty fucked up if the kid actually did grow up to be a terrorist?
Ignorance is bliss.
Muslim isn’t a race.
Well then, the embassador of all things Halifax rides the bus and has a prejudice toward muslims. Looks like we’re all just like her. Shut the fuck up!
You can’t judge an entire group of people by what one, or even a few, say. That’s stereotyping, and last I checked that seems to be frowned upon. I think the overwhelming majority of Haligonians couldn’t give a shit about people’s skin colour, religion, nationality, etc… Unfortunately, I think society has lost its middle ground these days. With everyone having a voice, with the availability of social media, I think the majority seems to get drowned out by the loud voices of the far right and left arguing back and forth.
