Being born white, even when born into any number of unfortunate situations, affords you (and me) a privilege not granted to people who are racially different. White privilege is a big topic, but suffice to say, we white folks generally go about our days without ever questioning our place in the world and in our community. It’s the little things as much as the big, overt, nasty issues that lend to the sum-total of racism and this includes the everyday privilege we experience and accept as normal that come from being born white.Maybe you have friends, co-workers or family who are not white. Maybe you treat everyone with fairness and tolerance. But not everyone is so kind. And if we cannot see the privilege that is afforded to us, by the very luck of being born white, then we are in fact part of the problem.
