I have heard and read a lot about people who keep stomping their feet on their way out of Halifax. Well don’t let the door hit you on the way out. I bet you have also been through a lot of partners in your life based on your history of commitment issues. I am going to dig in my heals and nurture the grass on this side of the fence. Don’t expect a red carpet if you decide to come back…don’t care. —HERE TO STAY!

  1. Haligonians are Canada’s greatest civic complainers. People born and raised here seem to think it’s some second-rate burg that they should move away from as soon as possible.

Seems to me like those of us from elsewhere don’t have such a culturally entrenched grass-is-greener complex, and realize how awesome it is here, flaws and all.

  2. I moved here when I was 13 and have been in love with this city ever since. I have lived in other cities in that time out of circumstance but always get homesick. Mostly I miss the atlantic ocean, the pacific isn’t the same. Though this city is pretty miserable in the winter months, there’s no place I’d rather be (except for maybe a week or two in europe) during the summer.

  3. Honestly, I make about 30-40% more (plus overtime) outside of the maritimes. I know I’m not the only one either.

However, I didn’t stomp my feet on the way out and I do miss home. Well, once in a while. Halifax is the biggest little city I know and that will NEVER change.

Now, have they figured out what to do about Freak Lunchbox? lol

  4. Halisux ….plain & simple. It’s roads are narrow lanes, made all the ‘better’ by patio’s in the summer.
Parking is a fucking joke & a bad joke at that . Its a rat infested, touristy dump.
It’s good point is….. its a tiny piece of Nova Scotia, & the rest of this Province is pretty damn great.
After 36 years in that city I moved out to the countryside, & have never been happier.
What would be a truly awesome thing for NS , is if the penninsula that city is located on sank slowly but surely beneath the waves, just enough for Citadel hill to be a small island, with a wet moat instead of the lame dry one it has now.
But not with a catastrophic loss of life, more of a Noah event, sinking slowly beneath the waves over 40 days & 40 nights. 🙂
