I’m not gonna lie, when I woke up at 6 yesterday morning and heard the Universities were open…I was a tad bit disappointed (and that’s all I’m gonna say! lol).
It’s kinda different when you have a midterm to write :/

Yesterday morning the radio reports all indicated that most roads and highways were clear with some slippery/icy patches. Traffic was normal. The universities made the correct decision by staying open.

most of these idiots don’t learn nothing there anyway. most are to busy texting or yapping to each other. and those that don’t do that in class, are either still hung over, or stoned, to even get the gist of what the profs are lecturing on for that day. fuck, i saw that last year when i was there for some classes, and i said to one asshole in particular. that if he didn’t want to be there, just fucking leave.
you were only getting one credit anyway to be in my class. too bad the few fuck it up for the rest, who could have actually learned something, other than how to be a real fucking douchebag.
You guy’s can laugh…but if you know the area. When I went to Dartmouth High…I had to walk up hill to & from school. I lived up by Joffre St , right up by Portland st., you walked down Portland st…which is downhill & up Victoria Rd…which is up hill.
Then the reverse..so up hill both ways !
donk it’s not difficult to get a rewrite on a midterm if you’re GENUINELY stuck in bad weather. Now if it’s just cold and slushy and you’d RATHER not go out, well that’s just too bad. Once you get into the industry of your choice that’s how it is too.
But if you’re either snowed in, or have limited mobility on the ice and slippery roads, exceptions can be made. They were for me in those circumstances.
I agree with Sebastard that the universities had no reason to close. It just sucked how I had to get my butt out of my nice warm bed to head down to one of them at 7:30am. And no, I’m no longer a student 😉
There is one difference though, I pay to be there, you get paid to go to work. A girl came in bawling that she had just hit someone in a crosswalk because she couldn’t stop … An 830 midterm when you have people travelling from Dartmouth etc. And believe it or not a rewrite isn’t so easy to get. They usually just add the percentage to your final, and to be quite honest I wouldn’t like writing a final worth 75% of my mark. I do understand that this is “real life” and you can’t just skip out on “real life” when bad weather comes, but for an institution with thousands of students, some who travel more than an hour by bus etc to get there, it was ridiculous! Half day would have been perfectly fine by me. I had to leave there at 10am, and I in my AWD vehicle that can handle all kinds of tough shit was still having a difficult time maneuvering so imagine 730, and I live downtown! So fuck all y’all who keep calling us winy. Oh and profs aren’t any better, half of them weren’t there …

I’ve missed my exam on a really nice day… simply because I thought it was another day…
told the prof and they let me write it that evening in their office.
SOOOOO difficult.
Rethink that, and do it with 250 students.
well I would think the school would make an exception if 250 people missed the test…
as far as stats goes, that seems like quite a significant percentage.
Maybe it’s the university, zed? I had to defer all of my exams at the end of third year by a month and a half in my first degree and my profs and admin bent over backwards to help me — I just wrote the finals in the department with the secretary checking in every so often and one of my profs told me he’d be available for questions if I was stuck. I got to pick the days/times I wrote.
Fast forward to my second degree — I missed an exam because I ended up with mono and bronchitis at the same time and it was hell on wheels to arrange for an alternate date — I couldn’t go through the prof, I had to go through central admin and I had to submit a shit ton of paperwork (I’m surprised they didn’t ask for blood samples to prove I was actually sick and unable to function). I ended up writing my exam the morning before I left for Ottawa because that’s the only date they could give me — I finished the exam an hour and a half before my flight left.
So it depends on the university, man.
The great thing about STATUS updates, is that you don’t have to read them.
So take some of your own advice there my friend, and stop whining over it.
I suppose… though I’m fairly sure any reputable university would arrange an alternate date if a decent percentage of students didn’t show up to write the test….
especially after some shit-kicking weather.
The key word here is “reputable,” zed 😉
250 students is only for one class out of many. Of course not all would miss (I made it out), but many may because of conditions.
