I know this subject has been beaten to death but Wake up guys People fly up and down those roads in their cars. I personally drive the speed limit or If I’m feeling brave 55km/h Anyway Cycling in a 80/km zone such as Ketch Harbour Road on the middle of the road is not a very good idea. I’d feel horrible if I ever hit someone. Yesterday I had to pass about 8 on my way out to Herring Cove. The thing is none of them were kind enough to pull over to the gravel to let me by. It’s a bicycle a little gravel isn’t going to hurt it. I think your bikes are cool but guys that road I know for a fact people speed up and down and its very winding and if your at the top of the hill just about to go down and some kid in a Civics flooring it and crests that hill, they are not going to have time to stop and you are going to be killed! It’s just so risky. And please have some courtesy towards the drivers and help us around you.

Sorry, at certain parts of Purcell’s Cove I hit 50-70km/h. I’m not going to ride within inches of the gravel side of the road at that speed. I will take up a whole lane instead. As well, out there in the centre of the road I’m more visibible to people pulling out of their driveways/sidestreets along the stretch between York Redoubt and the Greek Church.
Thank you for your understanding.
Do you mean that we should actually PULL OVER and RIDE ON THE GRAVEL beside the paved portion?
Get fucked.
Actually, switching from the road to the gravel and back every time a car comes is dangerous, especially in those areas where the cement is like five inches higher than the gravel. You have to hit the cement at just the right angle and speed with your front wheel in order to get back on the road or you wipe.
I think we should make him (or her) ride down one of those hills on a bike and “pull over” onto the gravel, just for fun.
You don’t have to be going very fast, OP, on a bike to totally wipe out in gravel. It’s NOT a car, with FOUR, WIDE tires and a cage of metal to protect your face.
That said, I too have come around corners out there (not speeding) and been surprised by bikers. What to do? I just take that into consideration and be careful, slowing down.
I noticed tonight that the speed limit is actually 50km/h. If you can’t slow from 50 to avoid running into a slower moving vehicle you should probably get retested for your driver’s license.
OP is probably one of the MANY people I’ve seen out there flying around corners at 80+.
ahaha no actually in ketch harbour which is mentioned in the post it is 80’km/h unless its a ghost sign. And 70/km an hour my ass maybe downhill but what about up hill
Ah, Ketch Harbour. I don’t see a whole lot of blind corners out there, though, so whats the prob?
Yeah, 70 is pushing it but is possible. Usually hit 60 no prob on a lot of the hills. Going up is another story but I’m still not riding in the ditch, sorry.
inflated to 120 PSI, 23mm wide tires and loose fucking gravel do not mix. You wait until it’s safe to pass like everybody else.
Last time I checked, aren’t bicycles vehicles too? Therefore they belong on the road, not the shoulder, like all vehicles.
They are a “slow moving vehicle”, and just as they aren’t allowed on the bi-i or the circ, they shouldn’t be allowed on any street that requires a SUSTAINED speed of 60+km/h. Note the word “sustained”, meaning not only while going downhill.
Welcome to our territory bitch, you jackasses own the urban part of HRM making it practically a no ride zone. We aren’t giving up the rural trunk highways. EVER, you’ll have them when every last bone in my body is cracked.
Of course the way drivers act in HRM that may not take very long…
How will farm tractors get around? I don’t see many of them doing 60+ up or down.
NL’s- Whether or not you feel they “shouldn’t” be allowed…they are, it’s the law, fucking deal with it.
I was terribly worried that the comments to this post would be in agreement, I’m so happy that isn’t true.
i hate those fucking bicycles. Cyclists make up the rules as they go….ride on road, ride on sidewalk, ride on crosswalks, ride on grass…..if my car could do that i would it too. fuck the bicycles. nova scotia driving regulations state the car driver can legally honk their horn before passing….i suggest all drivers honk at bicycles and scare the fuck out of them. maybe then those cyclists will learn to fuck off and ride on side streets.
You’re not a very good Troll. I’mnot even going to give you a ‘nice try’.
