…in Halifax, anyway. How come I never see any good punk bands come through. And why is the Concert Announcements section of the coast only updated a handful of times are year. Are we really that sad? —YoMomma

  1. YoMomma – the 80’s called and wanted to let you know that Blitz Craig and Zyklon B. Goode are playing Odin’s Eye this weekend. So fire up the Tardis, put a fresh shine on the Docs and dig out your best skinny tie cuz Ron Wallace era Halifax is ready to pogo.

  2. Odin’s Eye? Ivan, were you around at the time of the real Odin’s Eye on Grafton Street? Buddies of mine ran it – still have many original posters from the Eye, all brilliantly executed by talented artist Ken Silver who had a flair for all things Robert Crumb.

Didn’t Johnny Rotten end up selling life insurance?

  3. Maybe you’d like the latest incarnation of the misfits to play? Or maybe the Kennedy’s without Jello? Maybe the reunion tour of boy band formed Sex Pistols?

Or do you mean those hard core radio friendly acts like Green Day or Blink 182?

I doubt you even know what punk is other then reading about “them” in Rolling Stone. Check out Gus’ some night and recite this Bitch word for word, LTWWB dares you to!

Also, don’t use the Coasts lack of concert announcements as a basis for your argument. Thats how I know you belong listening to One Direction.

  4. I believe Johnny Rotten also did a comercial for butter or jam or some such thing a number of years ago, I have heard local band ODD SOCKS were pretty good…

  5. There are too many musicians that have learned to play their instruments….why go back to those who couldn’t?

  6. “How come I never see any punk bands come through.” YoMomma

You never seen any punk bands come through because you’re on your back, stoned out of your mind, you buffoon!

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  7. Umm, as Odin’s Eye closed in 1979, it must have been the 70s calling. (it became The Space for a while before shutting down completely). Yes, Ken Silver was great, but Steve Penney did a lot of nice posters too.

  8. There’s an amazing local punk scene in Halifax. Check it out instead of waiting for some “big” band to come here.

  9. Steve Penney was brilliant as well – I have a few of his posters kicking around the old homestead.

    34 years ago? Holy feck.

  10. Punk isn’t dead in Halifax. Its just too darned cold to wash windshields this time of year. Soon enough they will be back in full force, throwing their dirty needles in the bushes of the commons and using their dogs as sympathy bait. Yeah!!!! Fuck the establishment, man!!!!

  11. They’ll have to fight for sidewalk space come spring. Not every NDP fart-catcher got a golden parachute.

  12. 80s metal is dead until you step into my living room. Why are you letting the way Halifax acts dictate your life. If you want punk to be alive, listen to it and breath it. No one is stopping you…amateur.

  13. The motorleague was playing at the seahorse a few weeks back and there weren’t a lot of people there. Once there’s a lull it’s hard for the momentum of word of mouth/posters to get started again. I’m pretty sure Moncton is still going strong for punk stuff.

  14. In what universe are the motorleague a punk band? Moncton is actually pretty dead aside from the band Rabid Reaction.

  15. Awwwwwww 6 – 8 weeks. Too late for Xmas >: (

Thanks Brendon. Bonegrinder of a day; needed the larf.

  16. blastbeats

To me there haven’t been any punk bands since minor threat so I don’t know and only 3/4 care.
