I love how all the same people who attend Dalhousie who took the opportunity to act as though their school was impervious to sexism and rape jokes in the aftermath of the rape chant at SMU are just shutting up now. —I have you on Facebook

  1. SOME FUNDAMENTAL DISTINCTIONS

To simply label both Saint Mary’s and Dalhousie sexist overlooks some fundamental distinctions. As a graduate of both, in addition to two others, you can see that I speak with some authority on this matter.

On the one hand Saint Mary’s, generally speaking, is a combination of jock school and B.Comm students – MBA students included here – and so something like that might be expected. This is true, “a fortiori,” in the case of Engineering students whose sensibilities are even more blunt and gross as that of the jocks and MBAs. However, we must not overlook the Theology majors, i.e., those destined for the priesthood. While being an undergratuate institution SMU necessarily lacks professional schools generally (don’t confuse jumped-up MBAs with professional schools) there is no separate “Divinity School” at SMU – that’s something the apostate Protestant universities have cooked up – so the Theology majors can be found in nominally Philosophy courses. I say “nominally” because at SMU Philosophy is pretty well identical with the thought of Thomas Acquinas and so boils down to “Apologetics,” i.e. proofs for the existence of God (the “Uncaused Cause”and all that) and the truth of Catholic doctrine generally. In the case of the Theology majors then, it is not so much a matter of being “sexist” but rather being one in which females do not register on their consciousness excepting those cases where females might be seen as sources of temptation leading to carnal thoughts resulting in damnation and the loss of one’s immortal soul. The bottom line is that Theology students at SMU cannot be considered “sexist” in the manner under consideration.

The case of godless Dalhousie is different. The faculties of Commerce and Engineering are of course a constant here – it’s the sort of thing one might expect of both – but the Faculty of Dentistry is the one that has been in the spotlight. There is no Faculty of Dentistry at SMU so there is no simple across-the-board comparison but what must be remembered is that students in Dentistry have a mind similar to those found in Engineering. In other words, Dentistry is little more than Engineering for the teeth. The mind of the dentist and the engineer are structurally identical. They are without philosophy, without reflection and, as a consequence, without scruple when it comes to rubbing up the opposite sex.

My point as always is simple. In the case of SMU sexism must be considered on the basis of undergraduate faculties, always a mixed bag. In the case of Dalhousie, on the other hand, closer scrutiny is required, particularly in respect to the professional faculties generally and that of Graduate Studies in particular. My God, now there’s a mixed bag if there ever was one!

  2. Honestly, I can’t understand the mindset of some people! So, in challenging OB’s assertion that “practically all universities” accept rape culture (the assertion of the OB, NOT me), some people *dislike* my post. Therefore, by disliking my post, they agree that “practically all universities” accept rape culture (again, the assertion of the OB, NOT me).

    I stand corrected.

Dear University Students of Nova Scotia,
Please stop raping; mind rape included.
    Thank you.

Paragraphs one and two are serious comments.
Paragraph three (letter to university students) is sarcasm.

  3. I’d like to extend a warm festive hoilday greeting to all my bitcher friends, to those i know personally and to those who i know on this board. The list is too many to do a head count.

This season is a time for deep reflection for me as it’s the time of year that many of us get to spend and share memories with loved one, but many are less fortunate to be far away from loved ones in situations they didn’t ask for. This world has so much hatred, greed, rascism, war, the list is again, endless. Watching and reading current news makes one wonder if there are any solutions to the problems humanity has created for itself.

The only wish i have for this year is for people to turn hate into love, to be more tolerant of indifferences that exist between cultures and to learn from each other so that humanity and the world becomes a better place so that we can truly call this world our home.

In the words of the immortal Pat Condell ” Peace, is that too much to ask for?”

  4. Lovely words, Klydester. I know your Saintly, White-haired Surrogate Mom will be serving you a sumptuous Christmas repast. Merry Christmas to you all.

  5. KLYDE’S SURROGATE MOM,

I hadn’t realized that your mother was a “surrogate mom,” Klyde. Was she a stranger or a friend of the family at the time? With IVF, of course, it really doesn’t make much difference.

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  6. Merry Christmas to yourself and the Whippets, MM. Is the weather in your locale co-operating for a mid-morning perambulation?

  7. merry Christmas to all! my other half is wading thru the basement with the shop wetvac but happily, since I generously laced her morning coffee with irish cream. the boidie is stuffed up its wahooie with sausage, onions, bread and sage and roasting. the dogs are helping clean pans and eagerly awaiting the guests.

a dear friend lost her mom yesterday and my eyes are tender for her. at some age we all become orphans, don’t we?

all I would wish for in this world is for people to be kind. but I ain’t no saint myself.

  8. Dentists aren’t any better than any other group of male dominated fields. I had a roomie back in the day who went on a couple of dates with a dentist. She clearly didn’t see the bumper sticker on his truck, “Drill ’em, Fill ’em and Bill ’em”

Merry, merry ma bitches…10° and sunny here, too…

  9. Merry Christmas Xeno – we’re getting monsooned right now. I had a couple of bags of very fragrant carrion for my corbies that I delivered to them during a break in the weather. Rawk!

Yes, we managed to get a mid-morning walk in and also met a “rescue” hound on the way so the jaunt was both a healthful and social success. I see that Willlard gave you a “dislike” as well. Something will have to be done about that boy. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    : bad dog molly (9:39AM)

“all I wish for in this world is for people to be kind.”

Yes, the philosopher Richard Rorty (“Philosophy and the Morror of Nature”) said something similar – “Don’t be cruel” – but I find two assertions are not semantically identical. In my view your positive concept “kind” implies more than the simple absence of cruelty but exactly what remains vexed. Perhaps we might discuss it further when the occasion arises.

    : Xenophilia (11:23AM)

“Drill ’em, fill ’em, Bill ’em?”

Xeno, would you mind my asking how much your bill was?

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  11. ivan, I vant to visper 4 little vords in your pink, shell shaped ear my dahlink.

    bacon….wrapped….cocktail…..smokies…..

    :Ivan Sonofabitch (12.25,9.01PM)

I believe about 10 of those little delicious bacon wrapped doggies would satisfy the palette nicely to anyone within distance of them, along with other great delectables. Come to think of it, am still licking my chops. One bonus of giving up smoking cigarettes is that my sense of smell has beeen boosted tremendously. I can smell a waft of Ukranian cuisine in the breeze in the near future. My mouth is watering at the thought.

    : Montrealman (12.25, 8.18AM)

I believe Ivan`s use of the words surrogate mom is just an adjective describing the relationship we have and is not to be confused with the real definition of surrogacy wherein another woman is fertilized either by IVF or by the act itself only to give the baby away after carrying it to term, usually for compensation. If it were to be true in that sense, it would be more like immaculate conception and given the fact that our ages are similar, it would be highly improbable to have it happen at such a young tender age.

Saintly mom is more of a true descriptor for the relationship we have, and how i feel about her. She has been sent from heaven to look after me, to guide me and keep me from being as bad as she is. It enriches my life immensely to have the sense of belonging to her family with open arms. In some ways i am like a son, at times a brother, but most importantly, a true friend. She is like an angel and for those who she puts under her wings, she protects, nourishes and looks after them as any mother would.

To sum up, she is worth more than gold.

  13. Klydester, I’m so happy to know that my wingman and Kaffee-Kamerad went to bed last night with a full belly and visions of solo-flights dancing in his head. All who have made the acquaintance of your saintly step-mom(better adjective?) are truly blessed

    : Klyde (9:07AM)

Well, I’m glad we cleared that up. Trust Ivan to confound matters.

Are you referring to your wife or, as is usually the case in contemporary common parlance, your “significant other?” Clearly, on the basis of your glowing account, she is indeed “significant” but the exact nature of the relationship remains obscure. For example, you claim that she both guides you and keeps you “from being as bad as she is.” How can this be done? Is there paradox here? Write back soon.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  15. If the general public think that all male doctors hang up their balls before leaving for work your all sadly mistaken.

  16. so, ohappyday, do lady doctors plaster over their dents before departing for work, purge their endocrine systems of estrogen when on the job,or t ake 5 days off out of every 30,i’m, real curious about the relationship between anatomy and professionalism. enlighten us further based of course on your rich tapestry of real world experience

  18. As if sexism and rape jokes were exclusive to universities and not fundamentals of patriarchal societies.

  19. a VERY interesting article. combined different kinds of abuse. and of course, the vast gulf in numbers between male and female offenders. most of the ones mentioned (and I suspect that do this ) are like nambla members *think* they are.

“Theories about the female sex offender remain tentative. What is known, Cortoni says, is that female and male sex offenders differ in significant ways: where men have difficulties establishing intimate emotional relationships and show lack of concern for others, women have the reverse problem: “They’re over-dependent.” Another key difference, she says, is that female sex offenders don’t see all children as sexual beings the way male sexual offenders do, but they do see their own victim in a sexual way. “

I guess I shall be the one who says, nope, its not rape
I do not think its ‘love’ or even an envied rite of passage for the boys. its abuse, its sick, its sexual ‘interference’ which is same thing its called when a 50 year old, male family member or friend does things (avoiding penis/vaginal penetration) to a 10 year girl in his circle.

rape is forced sexual congress, not wheedled sexual congress. (and you cannot wheedle a 2 year old or 10 year girl into accepting the agony of adult male penetration, so yes, that’s rape)

interesting detail in the article is that these women overwhelmingly have only one victim. unlike male offenders, who have as many as they can manage to get. the females offenders believe they are in love, and in one famous case, married the boy when he came of age and they now have children. nambla – except monogamous. I suppose the guy who was besotted with Lolita would be the male equivalent. the only way to make a proper comparison would be if the male has only one victim ‘under his belt’, not a string of them.

I have no argument whatsoever that courts, police, society do not take these female offenders as seriously as they should and that it is extremely difficult for a boy to report this and be taken seriously. but is it as widespread as the opposite? I doubt it.

if a male offender has dozens of victims should he receive a lengthy prison sentence? yes. get him off the streets – he will never stop and these men rack up hundreds of victims in their lives.

based on the cases in this article those women need psychiatric help and possibly house arrest and restraining orders to keep them away from their one victim.

the homolkas of the world are completely different and should just be put down.

  20. But Molly, you’re a feminist, not a “fymynyst”. I use the two spellings to differentiate between those who believe in equality of opportunity and those who seek to “liberate” me from ” the patriarchy” as well, or who simply believe the world, their world would be better off without the likes of me. >; )

Agreed about homolka. And there is no arguing about the violence present in male perpetrated sexual assault on both male and female victims which tends to not be present in in cases of teacher. But there is social /legal hypocrisy which is clearly rooted in both the gender of the perpetrator and that of the victim.
And the roots of that sickness, that sense of entitlement and professional misconduct need to be traced back to their genesis, whether it be in either female group dynamics or the educational process, itself. Or both. Just like our benighted dentists.

I remember in the early 90’s a male student of my college (from my era) made a sexual harassment complaint against a member of the faculty (also male, older, with plentiful academic credentials and a louche reputation). The complainant was serious, credible, and grudgingly believed by the administration. He made a professional complaint, not a legal one. The details were kept in-camera so, we will never know to what extent he was curious, semi-willing, or simply confused. We will never know what pressures, academic or psychological, were brought to bear on him. Simply that several years after the fact, he was still profoundly affected by what had been done to him and found the courage to take some action. And some of the responses to him, heard first and second-hand from mature students who self-identified as progressive, feminist, as well as the head of the Journalism School at the time were simply disgusting. They would never have been made, had it involved a female student and a male professor. Fortunately, for them, this was in the days before social media, so, the Old Boys and Girls club could sneer and snicker in their drinks about a young man whom I remember as sober and mature and decent, far above the rest of us.

I know, most of us are sufficiently guilty of acts of hypocrisy, both large and small, that getting our boxers in a knot at the hypocrisy of others is hypocritical in itself. And I really am trying to avoid confronting serious divisive issues with the “Yeah but, so-and-so did such-and-what…” which is truly weak and lame.
But some things stick with you, even after all these years……

  21. Well. I guess that’s it for me. I had an extended comment on Ivan’s comment but, for some reason, it was deleted. All the best in 2015!

  22. Flumps all around, Painey.
Molly’s insights are welcome because I respect her so much.

Sorry your comment was excised, Montrealman. The moderation on this site is a tad, shall we say, capricious?

Cumberbitches and history buffs are advised to check out “The Imitation Game” Uniformly well acted, fascinating and tragic story and parts of it play much like “Big Bang Theory” as produced for Masterpiece Theatre.
And I mean that as a compliment.
    Sweet Dreams, Bitchez!

  23. Capricious? Capricious?! I need to go to the School of Ivan. Silver being the balance between black and white; and the tongue serving as both serpent and phallic symbolism – I think it would be an interesting course!

  24. Wait til I tell you how to earn extra credit. My four years at (p)H@gw@rts were not in vain. *nudge nudge* >: )

I had a rather long shortlist of “c” words to choose from; “capricious” seemed least likely to get my post yanked
    *wink wink*

Back to the Gulag for Ivan, tomorrow.Rooooooooooooo

  25. ^^^ Ivan’s reference to the term Gulag prompted me to read up on the topic. I’d never really known much about the Gulag system.

The article I read talked of millions being sent to forced labour and many of those being worked to death. “Even petty crimes and jokes about the Soviet government and officials were punishable by imprisonment.”

Helps put the dysfunctionality of my former workplace in perspective…. and, BTW, there is very little “fun” in dysfunction!

  26. Anne Applebaum’s book “Gulag” is probably the best on the subject. British historian Robert Conquest has written extensively on Soviet atrocities of the Lenin/Stalin era.

My own workplace is dysfunctional, but that doesn’t mean that fun can’t be had. Every Christmas SOBova gives me a Gun Digest desk calendar. If a particular day has a particularly sexy 5.56 mm Tac assault carbine, I’ll point it out to those in proximity and return to quietly singing “Bringing in the Sheaves” over and over again.
    It helps pass the time.

  27. ^^^ secretly voted by his colleagues as most likely person in the office to “go postal.” 😉

Ha! Keeps ’em on their toes!

  28. It’s no a secret. The workplace punters don’t even bother taking odds anymore.
MWA HA HA HA HA HA

  29. I agree, I got so much flak for being a SMU alum… learned that this chant had started within the last 5 years… not when I attended frosh/frosh leader. Dal students took it a step further.

Lets be honest though, men can be pigs… so can women too.

    Thank you Dal!

  30. It’s like the time the dentistry students of Slytherin House made a Lingeriem PantiusRemovus
spell and conjured up a large cauldron of lemon gin. They were offered a choice between mandatory expulsion and 2 weeks of lectures about feminism from Hermione Granger.
    Most opted for expulsion.

  31. Hey Molly, since you’re an expert on what is and what isn’t rape. How about some input. (I posted this before, and not one response). By the way, after all these years it’s nice to know that I wasn’t raped when I was a boy.

    Scenario 1.

“A” is out on the town for a night of partying, with friends. Sex is not the goal, but if somebody cute enough comes along….who knows. So sex is a definite maybe.

As the evening goes on, “A” becomes more than a little tipsy (stumbles, slurred speech).

Along comes “B”, who also has been drinking, and hits on “A”.

“A” & “B” hook up. “B” invites “A” back to their place for some dirty screaming monkey sex. “A” goes willingly, and they do the deed. Both enjoy themselves.
    ————————————————
    Scenario 2.

“C” and “D” have been dating for a while, no sex yet. “D” very much likes “C”, and is thinking that they would like to have sex with “C”, soon.

They’re at a party, and both get rather drunk. They go for some fresh air.

“C” gets amorous, and wants sex now. “D” says “Let’s wait until we’re both sober, it’ll be better.”
“C”, insists. “D” wants to wait. “C” becomes aggressive, and “D” realizes the only way to stop “C” would be to use physical force.

But “D” really likes “C”, and was thinking of having sex anyway. So “D” acquiesces, and they have sex.

Both enjoy it, and relatively soon, begin a long term relationship.
    ———————————————

My question, is ether/both of these scenarios, rape?

  32. Oh well, still again no answers….I have to say that I’m rather disappointed, not surprised, just disappointed.

    I say:
    Scenario 1 – Not rape
    Scenario 2 – Rape

But since I have testicles, I’m probably wrong, and the correct answer is “yes to both, but only if B & C have a penis.”

Next question. Is it still rape if they like it?

  33. sorry! I was pretty busy in past week and didn’t see your post. I didn’t have this thread ‘subscribed’.

my comments said ‘wheedle sex’ is not rape. I think your scenario2 falls under wheedle sex, whining for sex, claiming blue balls will kill me if you don’t, sex. and D is a sap.

scenario 1 is not rape because neither lost consciousness, right? it may end up as regret sex.

  34. ^^ are you sure you want to talk about your own abuse on this board? some creeps on here will try to track you down in real life.

  35. Potential dentists with access to anesthetics have no business joking about the actions of actual predators in their field. In a position of trust and professionalism it is their duty NOT to engage is this behaviour, be it words or actions.

OP’s smug assertion in this bitch negates the fact that predatorial thought exists everywhere, not just at one institution.

  36. Molly states with all certitude that “rape is forced sexual congress…the agony of adult male penetration”, no Molly. Rape is the lack of consent. No consent and no mater what you do, whether it be violent penetration or oral sex, without consent IT’S RAPE!!!

I know you’re not going to like this next bit Molly, a child under the age of 16 cannot consent to sex, so yes those poor misunderstood and confused Women, whose actions you’re justifying, are rapists.

Moly you also said – “the females offenders believe they are in love” and that “They’re over-dependent.” Is this the Love-Rape that you were refering to?
Those rapists reconnoitered their classes, selected victims, isolated and groomed the children, then they raped them.

Holy Shit on a Stick – “those women need psychiatric help and possibly house arrest and restraining orders”. Possibly? Restraining order? For the rape of a 12 year old child? “Keep them away from their one victim” she says. Then what, let them go back to teaching Jr. High where they’ll just rape another child? – Fuck, where did you get that bullshit, Richard Dawkins?

“are you sure you want to talk about your own abuse on this board? some creeps on here will try to track you down in real life.” – So what will you do to me when you find me Molly, a little gender reassignment surgery? I think I’ll run this threat by a couple of legal eagle friends of mine to see if I should inform the Police.

  37. no further discussion with you hugo since you are not even making sense. you have picked out phrases and taken them completely out of context, and taken quotes from the article Ivan posted and attributed the statements to me.

and my warning to you was out of concern, not a threat, since I have been ‘tracked down’ from my presence here. my advice remains as it was.

  38. You’re the one who said those children weren’t raped, everything I quoted came from your posts – I just called you on your bullshit denial of rape

It sure felt like a threat to me.
