I am sick and tired of seeing jobs posted here and everywhere else that don’t list the salary. If there was some consistency I could understand – you have a general idea what the job would pay, but there rarely is.
What is this – some sort of game? Save everyone the trouble and post it. Save yourselves the trouble of interviewing me twice and then telling me the salary is 30K under market. Save me the time and effort of two interviews – time I could spend looking elsewhere.
I have no idea what the “idea” is behind this. Is it because “If a really good candidate comes along” you don’t want to discourage him/her from applying (i.e. you’d pay him or her more?) Newsflash – if you cant afford to pay it when you planned for the job, why the fuck do you think you will be afford to pay it if a “star” comes along?
It’s just a fucking scam to try and lure people into your organizations because they now have time invested in it. Its a fucking game. Then the whole salary negoptiation – asking what I expect in salary – here is an idea – you tell me what you’re offering and I’ll decide if I will accept it. Don’t do this fucking “What are your salary expectations” bull shit.
On the same note – half of these jobs are classified by the employer already and have a pay range – so why not disclose that range? Don’t want the big fucking secret that your pay is the shits to get out in the open? Then when they do hire you, regardless of how much you exceed the basic requirements of the job, they still insist on giving you the bottom of the hiring range. Don’t call it a range – if its impossible to land within it. Just hire it at the base, don’t try to attract people with a range and false hopes that they can land somehwere in it (which is usually atleast 15K a year) . Fuck, getting a job is such a fucking game of shits and spades. —Why So Much Bullshit?

Well you’re in the wrong province if you expect to get a proper wage. You want to make money there, you have to own your own business so you can hire your own employees at a shit wage and reap the profits. It doesn’t matter how much below market a position pays there, there’s always someone that will accept it.
Good one OP. I can totally relate.
One bit of advice. Get some interview training on this issue. There are several ways to improve the interview based on how you answer or ask questions related to salary.
I have learned to provide my salary range expectations in my cover letter. I know what I’m worth and I’m willing to hold out for an opportunity that’s willing to match my investment.
Good point, Lou. I do the same and find I get squirreled around much less because they already have an idea of the minimum I would expect to receive.
i heard someone say work is highly over rated. i am starting to agree with them. employers hire whoever will do the most work at the cheapest salary. it is an employer’s market sad to say. i feel for ya op but it happens to the best of us. it happened to me.
o.p., here is the idea behind your problem. i, being an employer, will not pay a salary to someone that is less qualified than someone else. the exact same same of wages. there is a thing called job experience that should equate into the interview, if any. that being said, you don’t get a degreed doctor’s pay rate, for say a first year intern. you have to start low, but yes, i agree that they should post a minimum of wage scale, and the explaination on how much experience that you should have to get it.
i would never pay you or anyone else, the top dollar, til i knew exactly how far along the life line you were. that’s why there sometimes is a second interview. here’s a thought, if it pays your bills, take anything for now. if you have great expectations of a super high pay wage, then go to ottawa and become one of those crook bastard polititions that we have so goddamn many of sucking the life out of us all.
other than that, do what you gotta do, become one of the masses that suck at our tit for free and give nothing back.
op, don’t know what kind of job would appeal to or be suitable for someone as easily angered as you. i wouldn’t hire you at any wage for any position
Bahahahahahahahaha!!! LS, is an “employer”. Bahahahahahaha!!!
Can I have a job? I’m pretty far along in my “lifeline”. LOL!!!!
ANSWER: Employers are cheap as fuck. That’s why I play on facebook all day and take 2 hour lunches.
I agree with Lou. And based on your post, you must know what you’re willing to accept, so pad that by 5 or 10K for negotiating room and put the figure in your cover letter.
Bear in mind, too, what you are describing in terms of employer behaviour happens less (sometimes a lot less) for skilled jobs, over 50K/yr. At that level an employee becomes less and less fungible, and there is less certainty about what to pay until you look exactly at what the individual candidate brings to the table. But for 20K or 30K jobs, you’re much more of a commodity, and there is no reason for the employer not to try and bargain you down.
Same thing happened to me when I went for a coffee last week. What a waste of time!
The range employers post (ie. 35,000 – 54,000) does not mean you will be offered a salary somewhere in between ….. 35,000 is the salary at STEP ONE and increment increases each year to a maximum salary at the TOP STEP 54,000…. you work for x number of years to earn the top …….. it is not a spin-the-fucking-wheel and start where the arrow lands ….. geezuz, no wonder you are are still searching!
Koda: when they call it a hiring range, it means they plan to hire within that range. If they call it a salary range then one can reasonable expect that if the job requires a minimum 5 years experience and you have succeffully demonstrated 7 years experiecne then you would land (presumably) above the minimum. Min expereicne = min pay. The problem here is that you can bring 10 years experience when they are only asking for 5 and they want to pay you like you have five. If they plan on paying you the minimum then they should state that. Its completely mis leading and leads you to believe you can actually *gasp* get paid market value for your skills. SIgh what a hole this place is.
