Dear stranger,
Thanks to the utility company who has a monopoly here in Nova Scotia, you will have free service for the first couple of days of your tenancy! That’s right! Because of a lack of manpower, they are unable to send someone to “take the final tally” so to speak. and when you call them and ask themwhy they think this is a fair practice, they shrug their shoulders and say it’s because we don’t have the manpower. when you tell them you hope that their Father never has tobe screwed over like this after he dies, they say that you’re rude and hang up on you… —Mr. Meaty

*sigh* Mr. M, that is so frigging intolerable to come on the heels of a family loss. There’s probably appropriate channels to go through to get it rectified but I’m damned if I know what they are. If you’re recruiting an angry mob to storm their headquarters, please, sign me up. I’ve no plans and I’ll supply my own torch and pitchfork.
why on earth, in this day and age, do they need a human being to go look at a metre??? can’t they just smack a sim card into the bloody thing? I always thought my guy in a truck just came by to say hi to the dogs and give them biscuits.
yeah meaty, they can be bastards at times, most times that is. sorry you have to go thru this period and the other shit too.
Ugh, Assholes.
Just don’t pay it, Meaty. Refuse to. The amount will be so small that NSP won’t attempt to get anything out of your father’s estate.
What gets me is, they go on and on about their lack of manpower (look at the fiasco with that last storm), yet they lay off linemen and increase their hiring in their corporate office.
FUCK SAKES why hasn’t the URB done something about this piece of shit company, already?
Oh Meaty–going through all of that post-mortem stuff is just awful–I did it for my mom after dad died and most people I had to speak to were wonderful, but it was still super hard and there were a few ridiculous things to deal with as well. I hope you don’t run into too many walls like this–if you are frustrated and can use an ear from someone who has been there feel free to drop me a line at shesang@hotmail.ca anytime (on eves today, but I check my email on my breaks). Hang in there, there really is an end in sight, but it might take a while to get there. Sending good vibes your way.

Breakfast: Because the URB is far too cozy with them.
Well, yeah.
Perhaps we need to clean house and get some new folks on the URB – perhaps people who are actual joe schmoes and are just getting by, like most of us. Maybe shit’ll change then?
PK (BreakfastSandwich) The people of NS have to demand change.
I agree Breakfast. I’ve found the page for government jobs (URB and other committees) and most are written with a very specific person in mind. There was a URB seat available but you had to have a law degree and 10 years practice to apply. Basically, that old boys club will never change.
