Every morning you have a choice when you wake up. Choose to smile and try to look on the bright side…or allow yourself to get sucked into that hole of depression and misery. We can’t always change the landscaping, but we can change the eyes in which we see that landscaping. I spent a long time feeling like crap about the person I was and the choices I made, and then one day I started reading inspiration quotes about “get rich quick, count your blessings”. Then I realized that I had a choice…to make the best of a bad situation….I could let depression keep me in bed or I could force myself to get up and take small steps to become a happier person (mind you I did it for my son more than anyone) I grew up with a depressed mom and he deserves more then what I got.

I’ve realized that over the past couple days, myself (well, I always knew it, I had just lost my way) — it’s amazing what a few kind words to someone who’s having a bad day or going through a tough time can do for someone. I had such an out pouring of kind words from my friends that I can’t help but feel better. I almost have that little happy bubble you get in your tummy when you’re happy/excited about things back 🙂 The saddness always comes in waves for me, but it’s coming less and less now.

Drugs are a choice. I choose to think positive…I lose my way every day for an hour or so…but I choose to think positive and work my way back to happy. It’s hard work…I’m not saying positive thinking is AT ALL EASY…it’s not.

Before you go all a-wall on me Z…my computer is frozen…like there’s no memory or not enough space…it’s not wireless internet…but everything is taking forever to download…come up on the screen. What do I do? How do I delete some programs? Where do I go? Also is it hard to add memory?
adding memory(ram) is the easiest thing to do… even in most laptops… same with changing the HDD, they usually have little sections on the bottom you can screw out…
the problem lies in determining which you need. If you can’t read it off the stick(s) you currently have installed, go to http://www.crucial.com/ and run the test to tell you which you’re using.
I can’t see the memory being the issue since it was fine before… you may be out of disk space though.
you can always try purging your programs a bit.
windows –> start –> control panel –> add/remove programs.
it’s not the best way, but usually gets most of the files involved.
If the program itself has an uninstall option, that’s usually better.
also you can removing some torrents/downloads/pr0n to free some space.
If you still have issues, mail me and I’ll get you to take some screen-shots (ctrl + Print Scrn) of your system specs etc..
RC….. do you empty your recycling bin on a regular basis? Before you start deleting more things perhaps you should confirm that first. Files in the recycling bin take up local disk space as well 😉
You guys are really awesome…but I think the easiest thing is for me to pay someone to clean it up and ad RAM. I’m really clueless on computers – I went online and printed out some tips on how to increase the speed but it says to delete all the spyware and remove temporary files and stuff & I’ll clean out the recycling bin too. If that doesn’t work then I’ll get a someone to come fix it. 🙂
I was going to mention the temp files — happened on a computer I used to work on and it turned out there were over 40 profiles on the computer all with tons of temp files. Comp ran super fast after those were all deleted 🙂
Yeah…. just check the properties on your drives and major directories and you should be able to locate what’s eating up space. Keep in mind, some files are hidden so you need to set it up so you can view the hidden files as well.

You might want to look into a program called SpaceMonger. http://www.sixty-five.cc/sm/ It’ll tell you exactly what’s taking up space on your hard drive and where.
RC… If you right-click on a folder and select the properties option (down at the bottom of the list) it will tell you the total size of the files/directories in that folder. I had to help my Dad out with a similar problem (on a 40gb drive, mind you) and we found 23+ gigs of hidden temporary files…. It could just be it…

I’ve had no problems with it personally, Jonno. Also, RC, it would probably help to run a Disk Cleanup (Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools) followed by a Disk Defragment (same directory). It could take a while, though.

See this is why I hate computer selling companies… they jam all the shit in one partition so everyone is so god damn afraid of re-installing the OS.
with simple partitions and a couple low level settings altered, you’d solve 90% of your troubles by just re-installing the OS… and the remainder would likely be buying new parts for when cap’s bust on the Mobo or the Fan dies or something to that effect.
actually, to amend that… when done streaming (like from Youtube) ALWAYS close the browser down… especially if it’s firefox. They are gluttons for Memory and streaming just adds to that issue.

O.K I haven’t been fully paying attention to what your problem is R.C, but don’t pay to fix your computer, especially if its just cleaning? There were a lot of “tech” terms thrown your way, but don’t let that scare you, it’s not hard to do.

WTF????????????????? Are you just being a smart ass or was that really suppose to make sense to me? Seriously?
Yeah, I knew that one would confuse you.
Unfortunately you have to do this because if your computer goes into hibernation the defrag’ll stop and you’ll have to do it again.
Also, some systems are cranky when you try to do other things while defraging, so you might have to leave your system alone while you do it.
Or, you, could, you know, get a Mac…no defraging/clean up required and mine runs as fast as the day she was born 🙂

yeah, that’s the point… you leave the system.. it has the setting of hibernate after 1 hr of no use… and voila.
you right click on desktop, properties –> screen saver –> power button
and set ‘turn off hard disks’ and ‘system standby’ to never.
you can revert when you’re done if you like….
One of my acadia laptops (I think the first POS from first/second year with the 6gig HD, heh) used to be all “OMFG STOP DOING SHIT WHILE I’M TRYING TO DEFRAGMENT YOUR FUCKING SYSTEM NOW I HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN, NUMBNUTS”…the rest were all “eh” and let me do other things if I really wanted to. Though, they also let me spill vodka on them and still operate so stranger things HAVE happened. *shrug*
I cleaned out the computer last night – I did the disk clean up and deleted some unwanted programs. Then I went to defrag the computer and it said it didn’t need it because it had 69% free space. I still did it anyway. The recycling bins must be on automatic empty because they were empty when I started. Do you think it’s working slow because the its windows 7 and not Vista maybe?
PS: Heard little Z heart beat again this morning at the OB’s office. Put on 20 lbs so far. 14 weeks to go!

oh, I’m also guessing you’ve not altered the page file settings and so it’s started as a block and fragmented since then… meaning it has to roam for your ‘virtual memory’ pages on the hard disk. (and since it’s virtual memory, it can’t be moved when defragging… that is the ‘green bars’, in case you’re wondering)

I’ve seen tech’s come in and say the craziest stuff because if they don’t know what’s wrong and it ‘sounds’ technical, the owner just blindly accepts it as fact and gets suckered into either something they don’t want… or losing something they do.
If you call someone in… backup EVERYTHING you want to keep… in duplicate if you can.

I just got the computer from my dad – so there’s nothing on it I need to save right now. I emailed my friends husband who won’t charge me anything and he’s a tech support guy at one of the call centres. He said to do pretty much what I’ve done, delete unused programs, remove stuff from the control panel I don’t use, degrag, disk clean up, asked me the amount of RAM & which windows I use. He said he’ll come look at it if it still doesn’t run well.
I’m sure in the end I will have to come crawling to you….with bribes or orange chocolate 🙂

AVG – best free anti-virus that I know of.
Ad-Aware – one of the best spy-ware removal (dont’e be mislead by a program with a very similar name).
I update & run both programs at least weekly.
YouTube dumps spy-ware every time you watch something.

If he does end up wiping it… ask him to create at least two partitions…
one for the OS (2* the actual OS size since you’ll need to install program files and updates…and maybe .Net framework if you have a wii)
and the second for all your important and interesting things….
and to go in and lock your page file immediately after installing the OS and ensure it’s one contiguous memory segment.
If he doesn’t know what you’re talking about… don’t let him wipe your computer.

What does the .Net framework have to do with the Wii?
OS = operating system… windows… (or ubuntu for some.. Safari/snowleopard/mac OSX for apple freaks)
I won’t touch wireless but if you haven’t updated the firmware for your wii you can easily jailbreak it. only niche is that the WBFS Manager to manage your ‘backed up games’ off a harddrive requires you to install the .NET framework….

I reinstalled my os once and tried to utilize all the space and made the OS partition too small for the .Net install and had to re-do the entire bloody thing over again….
