In light of the death of the Chief of the CB Police, it has been reported that hundreds of police officers from all over Canada will be attending the funeral to show their respect. WHY and at what COST to the TAXPAYER? Where did this practice originate? I feel sympathy for this man’s family, and the families of all serving police personnel, but why does there have to be this costly parade at every event? —Dixon of Dock Green

DDG, WTF? Ever hear of respect?
What’s next, I suppose you want this practice discontinued too.

op… you are a dick…. enough said
Hugo, you’re quite right (and so are you brindi).
As someone who’s worked for DND with people likely to be deployed, it’s really heartbreaking to think that anyone that I had developed a working relationship with could end up like that. I can’t even imagine what’d be like to be the family of someone deployed. That video was really sad in a touching kinda way. Especially the clip of the old Vets from WWII and Korea.
Fuck you, OP. Fuck. You.
And the jerk of the year award goes to…
I think it’s a really nice way to let officers know they have each other’s back, no matter what. If a close comrade of yours died, wouldn’t you want the support of others that you work with? I know where I work, people definitely want to show their support when a long-time staff member passes away, they need to be there for each other and for the family of that person.
Sorry Baz. I’ve got no choice about paying for Abdulkareem Khadr’s colostomy bags or Karla Homolka’s post secondary education, infuriating as it is. I’m happy to help pay to show respect for a police officer.
OP you are a dick.
Ivan I agree.
The OB is an idiot and many come on their own dime and off duty and/or have admin duties. The chiefs’ or their representive (notice no “s”) are paid for to pay their respect. Don’t spout off about what you don’t know about.
Is that your own personal babybump RC?
omg is it is it is it???????????
o.p., who really gives a fuck what you think or do. it’s up to them to come or stay. do you go to family or friends funerals? if not, then yu are a fucking douchebag, if so, do you pay for it or me?
Just like you no one gets to pick who goes to their own funeral, no one gets to pick who goes to another’s funeral either.
Now watch as the crime rate skyrockets in Cape Breton. Next week arson. The week after another huge oxycotin sale.
As the author of this my opinion remains the same – if they want to pay respect to a fallen comrade, that’s admirable, but as a taxpayer I shouldn’t have to pay for it.
oh BB, that sounds so very very selfish of you.
Does the taxpayer pay for people attending?
Basil Brush, with all the cuts to schools, the problems with our health care system, senior’s being forced from their homes by rising costs & taxes, while their fixed income buy’s less & less .
I can appreciate you wondering about who pays for it all.
But do you really believe that all these officers want to go to Cape Breton ? especially Sydney ! ! !
Many pay their own way & probably police budgets (paid for by tax dollars) pay for some. But it is a funeral for a person who according to the write up about him rose through the ranks, & worked his way up to the position of chief. Having a long career , means this person probably made a lot of connections & friends.
Its a funeral cut them some slack, I’d rather see this than another 10 million or more wasted on a call centre that will fold as soon as the tax moneys gone !
Obvious Troll is obvious.
Just part of the police unions’ continuous attempt to convince you that they are the same as members of the military.
Imported from the USA and a grotesque display of force.
Humble is not in their lexicon.
