What the hell is wrong with whoever is in charge of the ploughs in this city?? They drive around all night and plough bare freaking pavement! The other day I was crossing the street late at night and massive plough drove through the intersection scraping the perfectly bare pavement (and salting the already over-salted roads), and threw up a rock that struck me in the chest.
Paying plough drivers to cruise around all night is a huge waste of taxpayers’ money! It also keeps us all up at night, ruins the roads, is dangerous to pedestrians. Makes me think that 22 million dollars spent annually to clear ‘priority 1’ streets is way too high a figure.

we’re never going to hit that sweet spot where roads are both plowed sufficiently AND no more than that so people don’t complain for lack of service OR over-service.
personally, I’d rather they stay out there and keep those bare roads bare rather than the alternative.
plough?
Yes, plough:

Will Elton John ever make it back to his plough? With all his money and his desire since 1973 to go back to his plough, I’m sure this could solve a lot of problems in this city.
don’t fucking complain too loud, or else your street, road or where ever will never get plowed again. and i love the way you spelled plowed. and here i thought i was terrible.eat em up people.
and another thing, the other DAY at NIGHT?
Municipal employee wage justification . How else they gonna get paid if they’re not driving ? Just thinking ! Salt away – but lift the plow man !!!
I was wondering the same thing the other evening. I wondered if theres a reason why, an actual reason why, theyre dragging the blade on dry pavement.
Well, duh. They’re dragging the blade across the dry pavement to create potholes which in turn creates more work for road crews. My guess is the sub-contractor used by the city for the plowing is the same sub-contractor, or family member thereof, who has the contract for road work come springtime. Call it job security or another half-baked way this city’s officials have their collective heads up their asses.
SnipeHunters post kinda rings true, Gotta wonder – maybe?
The plow operators plow the bare street because they get kickbacks from paving companies when the tenders go out in Spring. The more damage they are do to the road, the more the paving companies give them in kickbacks.
Hey OP: Thanks for spelling it plough.
Haha ‘plough’ is the uk spelling which we use here in Canada.
So, zZz, you think there are really only two choices: a) they plough nothing or b) they fail to plough when it’s necessary? That’s ridiculous. If drivers must be payed to do nothing, why waste gas and destroy roads? I’d rather them sit in Tim Horton’s.
