I received a ticket tonight. It happens, maybe once a year, that I will park where I am not supposed to. I never park by fire hydrants, nor in accessible places, nor in front of garages or driveways, but sometimes, it happens, I will park where I oughtn’t. And when I get a ticket, I always pay. But sometimes, I get a bit annoyed.
The ticket I received tonight says I was parked in a bus stop. It was by Bishop Landing, across from the Brewery. There is this space there where cars can park. There is a sign telling you not to park beyond a certain limit because of a bus stop. The closest bus stop to this sign is about 100-150 metres away. I figured… I’m not on the road, my car is a bit beyond the limit but some of it is within the limit, there is no actual bus stop, it’s just after 7:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, traffic is slow, I should be fine. 10 minutes after I had parked, my car was ticketed for being in a bus stop. I can only assume that back in the days when Lower Water Street was a two-way street, this space was designed for a bus stop but there is no bus stop anymore. There has not been a bus stop at this location for quite some time now. All there is the sign telling you not to park because of a now-defunct bus stop. If there is no bus stop, why am I being fined for being parked in it?
Dear HRM, instead of paying my ticket, can I just send you a note that says “paid with my credit card”? I don’t have one, but I figured I could invent a credit card just this one time, since your bus stop does not exist either. —a responsible parker

well then, park legally.
you park illegally once a year and you think this makes you a saint?
if you want to protest the dud signage then do so, but not in an after the fact civil disobedience way. just don’t park there. and no you are not a ‘responsible’ parker. you are a self serving parker.
Entitled driver tries to justify parking in an illegal spot after the fact. News at 11.
ps. Fight it at City Hall before the next time.
Ob, if you can show that metro transit does not have this stop on any of it’s routes
And
You are certain that the zone isn’t for other buses such as chartered buses.
Then
Ithink you should submit a very carefully worded appeal to have sumitted through the online appeals process. They might toss the ticket.
But if you go to court, you will lose.
Just saying.
Be sure to have a photo of the situation and missing stop if you even plan on bothering to fight this. You’re gonna need any and all the help you can get.
OB pay no attention to Mad Dog
Go fight the ticket. If as you say it’s because of a
Sign that no longer reflects the reality of the new one way street you have a very good case
& I know this because I have fought a similar ticket & won
So take the time to make a stand, after all it’s not like they penalize you further for having your case heard in court
Don’t the tour buses park there?
Yup there are more than just Metro Transit buses in the city.
Fight the ticket. Take photos. Enter a Not Guilty plea, that will give you 4-6 months before you have to appear at night court.
When you show up for the trial the prosecutor will probably choose not to proceed as the officer gets at least 4 hours OT and cannot appear in court on one night for more than 2 alleged offences so the prosecutor will choose the more valuable offences rather than a cheap ticket. I know it takes 2 trips and several hours but it deprives HRM of revenue they will just piss away.
PLEASE PARK RESPONSIBLY
“It was by Bishop Landing, across from the Brewery.”
Need I say more?
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
Say hi to Dan Fielding for me.

*looks around to see how many people actually get this considering the young target demographic
Got exactly what you deserved.
Yours truly
Here’s a concept: don’t park illegally and *gasp* you wouldn’t get a ticket for any reason.
You’d be getting a ticket, regardless, so just suck it the fuck up and pay it.
Also: ‘only’ getting cited for a parking infraction once a year doesn’t make you a saint as pointed out above. Most of us get no parking infractions… Ever.
If you are that hard pressed to park your shitmobile, take the fucking bus. Or, y’know park it at a lot (paying for parking! What a concept!) and walk a little bit.
In fact, there are several lots within walking distance to where you decided to park. Interesting, eh?
“[insert bullshit nice-guy disclaimer], but sometimes, it happens, I will park where I oughtn’t”
OUGHTN’T?
Ugh Fuck off and pay the ticket, asshole.
