I know building a stucture like the one they are putting up between highfield and burnside, the footbridge for pedetrians, take some time to get ready. But it seems like it has been done for about a week now and they still dont have it open.
I for one travel that little bridge connecting highfield to burnside at least 3 times a day and i say a little prayer everytime. I have been clipped my mirrors on trucks at least 5 times and in th winter it is a very dangerous place to walk on.
So while i appreciate the fact the city has finally built a foot bridge….OPEN IT UP AND LET US USE IT PLEEEAAASSE!!!!!

  1. I can’t believe something wasn’t done sooner, to be honest. It’s ridiculous how many people live in Highfield and have to make it to Burnside. Most ridiculous and short-sighted urban planning ever.

  2. I feel your pain OP, I’ve made that narrow walk too many times. It may look ready but there’s probably some last-minute structural touches that are needed before it can open. Be patient and ye shall have what we have all awaited for years.

  3. IS it just me…or is that thing built on the wrong side of the over pass ?
I usually see people walking over around the coffee shop that’s attached to a burger joint right in the intersection. But for any of them to use that pedway, they’ll have to cross a 6 lane road.
Plus has anyone else ever noticed that there are many people who cross the highway just down the road from the over pass down closer to the Murray MacKay Bridge ?
wouldn’t that have been a better spot for all the highfeild park folks ?
–just asking, not trying to be judgemental !–

  4. I know exactly where you are referring to, but i think where they have it, is a good place, as alot of foot traffic tries to cross the bridge. It is a very very very good thing that finally have put it up there. I am happy that this winter i know i can walk home safe and not be clipped by mirrors on trucks.

And yes i am the OP

  5. “i can walk home safe and not be clipped by mirrors on trucks.”

did anyone else read this as
i can walk home safe and not be clipped by ‘morons’ on trucks.?

I had this witty retort but then sadly reread it…

  6. I always try to clip the fools who try to run across the Circ and jump the concrete barriers. I also lay on the horn in hopes of making them deaf.

  7. Well the burnside dr/highfield park/111 bridge crossing doesn’t have a pedestrian walk – but its alot better then acting like a leemans hearding across from burnside park indust to highfield across the 111 . Jesus – no doubt – i always try to make them deaf too with the horn . But – as such both are pretty dangerous and i think any fool sitting there watching for the best part of a day can see a pedestrian bridge between them is totally warranted

  8. How di i get clipped? Cuz you have about one ich between you and the cars that re going across, im not talking baout running across the highway, im taking about the the bridge connecting burnside to highfield, if you are walking up there in the winterm when the one foot wide sidewalk thingy is covered with snow and you are literally about one inch away from all the cars blowing past ya, when the big trucks go by, i have been clipped by there mirros about 5 times. So yea it does happen
