I am FORCED to have a pap test before I am allowed to obtain birth control.
Don’t get me wrong… I am 100% cool with a gyno shoving an IUD up my vag. But I am frustrated to motherfucking hell at the prospect of being denied BIRTHCONTROL if I refuse to have this procedure. What THE FUCK?! Before anyone responds “who cares- it’s for your own safety”- refer to the part where I say “I’m cool with gyno + IUD” in other words it’s the *principal* of being *forced* to have an unrelated, uncomfortable, extra, medical procedure. This should be criminal. I am HATING right now 😐

Im not tryin to tell you ladies what to do with your bodies, i agree that doctors don’t have a right to tell you what to do with your body, nor does church or state, however did you ever stop to consider it from a medical perspective? if you had ever READ the important information included with your birth control, you’d know that if you have pre-existing cysts, you should NOT take birth control as they could become exacerbated or even cancerous. if a doctor had allowed you to be on birth control without checking to see if you had pre-existing cysts, they could be sued for malpractice. yes, it’s your body. we’ve all heard it a THOUSAND times, im a woman and im still sick of the dumb arguments in the name of feminism. you’re not the only person in the world, maybe you want birth control, but crack heads want crack too, would you give it to them?? would you rather have to have an abortion or die from ovarian or cervical cancer? maybe you don’t care, but your doctor has taken an oath to care as HIS/HER FUCKING JOB!!!!!!! oh, but im sorry, you want it, so you should have it. what are you, 12?? maybe you should try sterilization for all our sake….

A PAP test does not test for cysts, you can do that with visual inspection and do not need a PAP test. Since the results of the PAP test has nothing to do with whether or not you should be on birth control a woman should be able to refuse a PAP test and stil be given birth control as long as they have no other conditions that would contraindicate its use.
It’s the whole using bc as leverage thing that frustrates the fuck out of me. I understand fully why women should be checked regularly, as I’ve been female my whole life.

I agree….anony you compelely missed the point. It is the concept of being “forced” do to something. And I know for a fact that she is old enough to be seeing a doctor for birth control and a 12 year old still has just as much right to have birth control even if they are not having sex; people go on birth control for different reasons. The comment on her being sterilized makes you sound like a fucking moron, at least she is being responsible enough to go see a doctor about getting birth control. And as for the crack head comment…you can’t even compare the two…someone on crack is obviously irresponsible and doesn’t care about their life; someone who wants to be on birth control so they do not have an unplanned birth actually cares about their life and the life of an unborn child. And as for you saying “would you rather have an abortion or die from ovarian or cervical cancer?” are you suggesting that it’s better to not go on birth control if you don’t want a pap because of the small chance of getting cancer…and just have an abortion when you get pregnant? you don’t make fucking sense. OR you can go on birth control (decrease your chances of getting pregnant and having an abortion) and have a pap when you fucking want to, not when someone tells you to!
uh…my doctor gave me birth control without having to get a pap test or anything…Go talk to a different doctor, I’m sure you’ll get better results.

My doctor has always made it routine for an annual pap along with a renewed perscription of b/c. Even if i weren’t on the pill, she’d still call me in once a year for an appiontment. The OP has a point, this shouldn’t be forced on women, but it IS something that should be done once a year. I’ve never felt ‘forced’ into it, probably because i know it’s just part of being female. But, your body is YOUR body, and if you choose not to go through with a pap, that should be your choice. Using the pap as mandatory for birth control is just silly. A lot of females are very uncomortable with the concept of this procedure. I have a friend who is in her mid twenties, and who just had her first pap test last month. (I conviced her she should at least read up on what it was). Her doctor had never even mentioned pap to her once, in about 20 years of visits. She knew little about the procedure, and no clue what it checked out..she just thought she was lucky to have such a cool doctor, cause you know, he didn’t ask any questions, and never ventured onto the *gasp* topic of sexual health! My advice to her was to change doctors, because while it may be nice not to be forced into anything awkward or uncomfortable, it’s also very strange and unprofessional to have a doctor who passes out birth control like it’s candy, and has never once mentioned getting tested.
