One of my favourite things about NS is that pitbulls are legal. I’m from Ontario where they are banned, which is so idiotic to those who know and love this amazing breed. My dog is 1/2 pit and I love him to death. People who judge pitbulls and assume they are vicious beasts have no idea what they are really like at all. The media has influenced you by only speaking negatively about them, which has given this sweet breed a horrible rep that they do not deserve. Thankfully, pitbulls are given a chance in this province. In the future, I hope Ontario can see the error of their ways. Just like we wouldn’t judge someone from a different race, we can’t single out one breed of dog. It’s not fair. Pitbull owners take such good care of their dogs, giving them love and life. Never ever would a pitbull owner give up their dog by posting a free ad online after owning it for years. It sickens me to see these ads of these heartless people giving away their dogs. Are you kidding me? You owe your dog a little more than that. I see people giving away their dogs or dropping them off at shelters and not even turning back to say goodbye. It is beyond heartbreaking. Dogs have feelings. They are sad and refuse to eat and they know they’ve been abandoned. Please people, don’t ever give up on your dog. You are their world. Remember that. Oftentimes these poor dogs are sent to high-kill shelters because no one wants them. Especially in California. It is sickening. It’s the worst thing i’ve ever heard. A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn’t care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he’ll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary? —Chains are for Bikes, Not Dogs

  1. It’s not idiotic when you get bitten by one in the mouth/cheek and have to get rushed to the hospital to get stitches when your friends dog decides to bite you…

  2. I love my pittie more than anything. It breaks my heart to hear of anyone mistreating an animal of any kind, and pitbulls seem to have gotten such a terrible reputation. Have people forgotten about German Sheppards? Dobermans? To single out one breed and to go so far as to ban them from an entire province is just insane.

Why not euthanize sack of shit pet owners instead? Problem solved. So many little wanna be thugs go out and buy pitbulls thinking it makes them look tough and cool, and since they’re 12, they have no idea what actually goes into responsible dog ownership and end up neglecting thier pets. Unfortunately, all pitbull owners seem to be painted with the same brush – something that only seems to be getting worse with time. My hubby and I can’t walk ours at PPP without getting dirty looks and I’ve actually had people purposely CROSS the street just to avoid coming anywhere close to him. It used to bother me, now i just shake my head.

I agree with where you’re coming from, OP. There are far worse people on this planet than pitbulls. It’s just too bad we can’t dispose of them as easily as we can our unwanted “problem” animals.

  3. lovepink… how is that any different from say a doberman or husky biting your face???
    dog’s a dog.
    no really… it is….

  4. Totally agree, zZz. I’ve met some Chihuahua’s and Pekinese that would tear the ankles off of you as soon as look at you. It doesn’t matter what breed it is. If it’s not raised/treated properly by the DOG OWNER then it’s going to lash out.

  5. all the dog groomers i know, have battle scars on their hands. they are usually from small dogs

  6. I’ll probably get slammed for saying this … but, it’s like racism … only against dogs. I have encountered nasty dogs that span many breeds (large and small). It doesn’t mean that the breed is bad … it’s just a dog with issues.

Lovepink … what happened to you is terrible and I can understand why you would have an aversion after an incident like that. But, not all pitbulls are bad.

  7. I’m so sick of hearing how people glorify pitbulls. They are dangerous. Once your children get eaten by your “pittes”, maybe then you’ll realize you’ve been assholes

  8. That’s just it, Meaty. They AREN’T dangerous. They’re not any more dangerous than any other breed. The dogs that are dangerous are the ones that are mistreated, neglected, not socialized, locked up for 23 hours a day or trained to be aggressive, and NONE of that is the dog’s fault. It’s the owner’s/handler’s fault. This could be ANY breed from the smallest Chihuahua to the biggest Great Dane and everything in between. This whole “banning the breed” movement is nothing but a knee jerk reaction and totally misses the mark.

What about that lady that was attacked at the Home Depot last year? She innocently leaned in to pet the dog and SNAP! had half her nose bit off. That was a little Shih Tzu AND it was in Ontario. So, why didn’t they ban THAT breed? Surely since it attacked this woman it’s dangerous? (The media only skimmed over the fact that the dog was in a shopping cart, i.e. cornered, and the dumb bitch leaned her face right in. There has to be a little bit of responsibility(common sense) placed on the general public as well, but, that’s another post)They didn’t ban it because it’s a cute little purse pooch and the media didn’t hype it up as a big, scary, monster of a dog like they do the pit bulls.

Any animal is dangerous under the right circumstances and given the right motivation.
I heard a story about a lady that got her hand all scratched to shit when she tried to help a cat that was trapped. She cleaned and dressed her wounds but a few days later, the wounds went septic and she damn near lost her whole arm. Using the “banned breed” logic in this case, we should ban all cats, too. It’s nothing but fear mongering and you fell for it.

  9. And nobody is glorifying pit bulls. They are defending them from the close minded individuals out there that would rather see them all rounded up and destroyed just because the media and some vote hungry provincial gov’t lackies say they are dangerous and we should all fear them. It’s just not the case.

  10. A well trained dog is a well trained dog. A poorly trained dog is dangerous, regardless of breed. How many here know that poodles were bred as hunting dogs?

Do not approach any dog without the owner’s consent. When consent is given, allow the dog time to sniff and get to know you a bit.

I meet many dogs in my job and the many pits I’ve met were just big sooks.
