After reading a bitch that was submitted last month I was left with some deeply troubled thoughts. It was about pitbulls and the comment section was flooded with an outpouring of support for this breed of dog. After reading a story today about another toddler being bitten and scarred for life I thought I’d do some research and present the facts.
On May 16 it was reported that two Chicago police officers had to shoot and kill a pitbull that was attacking a teenager. On May it was reported that a double amputee elderly man was mauled to death by four pitbulls after being dragged from his wheelchair. That case was in South Carolina. On May 13 it was reported a 63 year old woman was mauled to death by several pitbulls while out jogging. That was in Los Angeles. The owner of these pitbulls now faces homicide charges. On April 25 it was reported a toddler in Georgia was mauled to death by the family pitbull. On March 28 it was reported a 2 year old girl was mauled to death by seven pitbulls in Georgia while her grandmother slept inside. It was then revealed that three of the dogs were pitbulls and the other four were a pitbull mix. On march 21 it was reported a man shot and killed a pitbull that was attacked two women. This was in Oklahoma. On march it was reported a 54 year old woman lost an arm, an eye and an ear after being attacked by her own three pitbulls. This was in LA. On March 14 it was reported that a six year boy was attacked by a pitbull in the Bronx, surveillance camaras captured the unprovoked attack. On March 7 it was reported a 14 month old was mauled to death by his babysitters two pitbulls. The babysitter now wishes she would die becuase of the incident.
In every attack stated the dog/s in question were all pitbulls, or in one case, a pitbull mix. It is also now proven that all attacks were unprovoked and the dogs suffered no abuse at the hands of their owners, hence the lack of charges except one case.
This should be proof enough that this dangerous breed needs to regulated and swiftly spayed and neutered as to not reproduce. There will still be some encouraging the attitude that this is spreading hate. To them I say, I am spreading knowledge and hopefully preventing another horrific news story.
Similar reasearch was put into other breeds of dogs and their attacks on people and small children. No breed of dog has as much blood on its teeth as these beasts. —Well Researched Dog Lover

If you want to look for the most aggressive breed and had actually bothered doing any research, you’d discover that Tibetan mastiffs are FAR more naturally aggressive and territorial than pits, rotts or dobermans or any other stereotypically nasty-tempered dog.

there are breeds of dog that are more given to aggression than others. A lot of small dogs fall into this category too but because they’re, on average, the size of rats, it doesn’t occur to people that they can seriously do harm to pets or children.

Anyways, I’m not the biggest Dog advocate but I really find it hard to believe a properly trained house-pet would rip a kid apart completely unprovoked.
I’m sure the only reason there aren’t many more house-cat-based fatalities is that it is a 15 lb cat and not an 80 lb one.

Not everyone or everything is made the same, but that’s not to saying one way is right and one way a wrong. I think you need to be swiftly spayed and neutered as to not reproduce.. I think aggressive dogs shouldn’t be with aggressive people.. You don’t know all the facts you have read a bunch of news articles.. Are you aware that Dalmatians are also an extremely aggressive dog that has been known to snap and cause serious harm? They need to be trained and have calm owners just like pitbulls.. I’m not just going to hate one breed of dog because people have learned how to take advantage of them.. but thats just my opinion.

People arent quick to report a dachsund biting a kid as they are a pitbull. It used to be german shepherds that got the bad doggy wrap. Guess what, small breed dogs bite far more, they just don’t have as much power behind their bloody teeth.

This will always come down to the owner(s) and not the dog. They are only as well behaved and socialized as their owner allows for. Those dogs (and any similarily powerful breed) do have a high prey drive and require owners who know how to handle them and ensure they are properly socialized.
I have a bully breed dog and she is great with children and other dogs. I could point you to lots of examples of chihuahuas and Dalmatians attacking people. Would you then start crying about those breeds.
Meh! Let’s face it, a big strong dog is more likely to kill or inflict serious damage if it decides to attack be it pit bull or rottweiller which is why they’re used as guard dogs more often than shelties which is why they attract people of questionable ethics. Add the status symbol a pit bull is and the type that the status symbol is important to and the pit bull is bound to be in the thick of it.
I’ve found chihuahuas to be the most tempermental pooch. Tempermental as in sinking their teeth four inches into your calf.

I’ve never actually been bitten by a chihuahua (chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah as spoken by Les Nessman) but I’ve had every one of them snarl at me though. I love all dogs and I get along great with all dogs except it seems that one breed. I think they’re a tad inbred.
The only dog that has ever bitten me was a doberman and that was fair game as I was trying to give his bone to my dog. The doberman (he went by the name of Rascal) grabbed my wrist and growled. I dropped the bone. I should mention I was about seven at the time.

It’s because people have an idea in their heads that pitbulls are vicious so people specifically get them to train them to be that way. You can train any dog to be vicious by neglecting them. I think that every person who wishes to own any dog should have to take it in for training. Period. No training, no dog. There are a variety of breeds in my neighbourhood, and guess what? The aggressive ones are the ones who have never been to obedience. The pitbull mix that went through obedience? Docile as a newborn kitten. The Jack Russell? Vicious. Took a piece out of me about a year ago. Owner’s promised to take it for obedience but I am still waiting.

Women tend not to get the number of years they’re married incorrect so I think this is part of a ruse.
1) the vast majority of pitt bulls involved in attacks are not “family pets”. They are “resident dogs” that are generally tied up, abused and malnourished. Not exactly representative of all dogs in the breed.
2) Media reports of pitt bull attacks often erroneously identify dogs as pitt bulls. Although these dogs may look like pitt bulls, not all actually are pitt bull breeds. In addition, many media reports fail to report the breed when the breed in question is perceived to be “family friendly” (i.e. retriever, lab, etc)
3) Pitt bull breeds have only in the last few decades been responsible for a disproportionate volume of dog bite-related fatalities. Prior to this, the leading perpetrators were German Shepherds. Interestingly, the rise of the Pitt Bull as a perceived and actual threat coincides with the growth of an urban rap scene characterized by a culture of violence and gangsterism.
4) Although pitt bulls were bred to be animal aggressive (the dog has been used for hunting and dog fighting), they were not bred to be aggressive toward their people.

I just finished a massive 3000km bike tour of the general coast of Nova Scotia(took just over 3 weeks, I did the same route 2 summers ago in the other direction. I posted the pics on facebook). I was ran up on by only 2 dogs this time. Both were pit bulls and obviously off leashes, and both were in Lunenberg county. I almost had to coyote mace one of them. Two weeks into the trip coming in along the coast just before Pictou a woman came across the lane in her car screaming that there was a black bear in the driveway up ahead. She drove into the driveway while I was about 150 meters away and sure enough the bear ran across the road and into the woods. Turns out the bear was only 10 feet into the driveway watching cars go by. I would have had the shock of my life when I passed the hedge at the end of the driveway 10 feet from a bear! The dog in the yard kept quiet and on it’s stomach at the end of it’s leash while the bear sat in the driveway according to the lady in the car. It’s interesting how diverse dog personalities are. Another dog might have been louder. Anybody see that dog that paints with a tennis ball on the internet?
Go back a few years and I bet all the dog attacks published are by Dobermans, back a few more and they’re all German sheppards. Just like anytime something bad happens outside of Halifax they label it as Dartmouth in the papers. Because the media caters into whatever people want to believe/what’s going to sell the most papers FFS. How about do some real research about ALL dog attacks by ALL dog breeds, some reputable source and see if indeed most reported attacks are by pitbulls or if everyone just SAYS it was a pitbull because it was a big mean scary dog and everyone these days thinks pitbulls are Santans breed. I’d agree ANY large dog, no make that any animal with teeth and/or claws, is potentially dangerous in the wrong hands and there should be background checks for anyone buying or adopting any animal. It’s just like gun control folks, it’s not about the animal or the firearm it’s about how the asshole who possesses it intends to use or treat it. Don’t blame the breed blame the morons who think owning 3 or 7 large dogs is a good fucking idea!
OB If you are in support of the death penalty for humans than I can respect your argument, seeing as how they kill and/or injure WAY more people than dogs and they have higher level cognitive processes that SHOULD tell them that doing so is wrong. If not, jog on…
