If I almost get run over by another one of you impatient asshole drivers, I’m going to lose my mind.

It’s pretty sad when you have to risk whiplash each and every time you cross the street, making certain no one is speeding towards you. Today, I crossed the street at the intersection by the Halifax Shopping Center on the Mumford side and when I was nearly run down by yet another bitch with no concern for others, I shouted out, “Watch where you are going! and she told ME to go fuck myself.

It was truly one of those “Did that just really happen?” moments. That happen on a daily basis and there’s absolutely no need for it. Do these losers not realize how scary it is to see a car speeding towards you, only to break like a foot away from your trembling legs? How much more clear do the walk signs and traffic lights have to be to slow these mother fuckers down?

I’m going to start taking license plate numbers, find these inconsiderate jerks and run as fast as I can at them, stop and yell “BOO”! at them and then walk away. Just call me the pedestrian vigilante. —Scared to Cross the Street

  1. K, I travel this road every day and see you pedestrian twits crossing against red lights when it is not your turn to cross the street.

Pedestrians should have a license to walk so that we can report you when ever you do something we drivers feel is wrong.

Now not sure how you were crossing the street with cars speeding at you when cars would be going the same way you are. To make a turn it would be pretty hard to speed while turning to the shopping centre or wal-mart / sobey’s entrance.

Plus it’s 50km in the city….hope you have a radar.

    lol

  2. if this happens to you every day, then you seem to be the common denominator here.
It’s most certainly not the same person breaking every day.

are you really a good pedestrian???

  3. While I agree that there are bad drivers for sure, there a lot of bad pedestrians as well. You MUST always look before crossing the street; don’t just look at the walk light. When someone is turning left and toward you, they may not see you because there could be a car in the way or they are watching other drivers, as they should. I live by one of the most FUCKED intersections in this city; where Windsor, Cunard, and Chebucto meet. When it’s my turn to cross Windsor, there are cars turning left toward me or cars coming off Cunard up toward me..but I always look at the cars and make sure they see me before I waltz on out there. You might want to start making eye contact with drivers and always looking around all directions before you just walk onto the street, even if the street Gods tell you to walk.

  4. Ha, ha! I didn’t mean to insinuate that this happens to ME every day but that it DOES happen every day at some crosswalk to some one. I hear other people bitching about this same thing too. I am a very careful and polite pedestrian. I always wait for the walk signal and never try to run across when there’s only a few seconds left. In fact, I sometimes even flag a car to drive past me so they can get out of the way faster.

I agree that there are bad pedestrians too but I just wanted to bitch about bad drivers, not bad pedestrians.

I used to have to deal with that same intersection all the time, melectric. It’s a bad intersection for everyone involved.

  5. Sidewalks are very narrow and when people stand to wait for a bus or try and cross the street, they stand really close to the edge of the sidewalk. It makes me nervous because I feel like I’d hit them while driving. I also saw a few pedestrians run across a busy street at non-intersections today too. And they are always looking the other way while running right in front of me. Scary. Really scary.

I think everyone needs a self-awareness training, like drivers will learn what it is like to be a pedestrian/cyclist, and vice versa, so we are more aware of the kind of things to watch out for and be more considerate to each other.

  6. Nice summary! I think everyone could benefit from some self-awareness training in many aspects of life!

  7. I find the cars are too slow, I am waiting for them. They seem to think I am small and insignificant and unaware. I can see much more of the world than they can from inside their car. And unless they’re in a truck I’m about 3 feet taller than them. I often have to turn walk toward the oncoming car to get behind it and then cross.

You see me crossing against the light? Well if there are no cars with 200m of the intersection, I am crossing. You’d have to be doing about 240 Km/h to hit me. Hell, I’ll usually go if there are none within 100m as it is pretty rare that anyone is doing 120km in the city. Usually most traffic moves painfully slow. Most drivers are painfully unaware.

There is a joke in Europe:
How do you recognise a Canadian tourist? They’re the one waiting for the light to change before they cross the street.

  8. I use to live in Halifax, and I walked everywhere in the city for 5 years. I have to agree, Halifax drivers are bad, and very unaware of pedestrians. When you are driving a car, a big piece of metal, going whatever speed…you have to be veeeery aware of your surroundings, other cars and pedestrians! Its not a right to drive, its a privlige! Be RESPONSIBLE for you driving! I considered myself a very aware pedestrian, always waiting for the signal, ALWAYS made eye contact with drivers, that is the most important. But when you see someone driving a car, on the cell phone, and drinking a coffee, what else would you expect them to do, then be so caught up in what they shouldn’t be doing in the car, and cut a car/pedestrian off! Wake up, and drive properly, or get off the road. People were walking a hell of alot longer then cars were on the road.
