My boyfriend and I just bought a house, we had always lived in an apartment and already have two cats. We finally had the space for a dog. We’ve got a huge yard, and very close to parks. We don’t want a fucking puppy, we wanted a dog. Short story, we find an American Staffordshire Terrier (a.k.a Pitbull) at the SPCA. My boyfriend fills out the application and advises that we have two cats and they don’t say anything to him about the dog not being allowed to go to a home with cats. The website also said nothing about him not being able to go to a home with cats (which conviently now says so). We got a message on Monday, that had been left on Friday, and we also spoke with someone at the SPCA today that we cannot get him. This is the best part, they say that his “breed” is not known to be that gentle and that in his stress test he shook his “fuzzy toy” allot and they are worried for our cats. Fuck you SPCA. First of all I know my cats, their not about to jump into his mouth. Second of all, I hung out with the dog all weekend and he isn’t exactly “Jack the Ripper”. They even had my boyfriend fill out some additional info on the application when we were in and put the dog on hold for us. They had decided on Friday, yet still let us take him out on the weekend and let us believe we had a chance. That is the biggest fucking load of crap I have ever heard. According to your Friday message, which I got Monday after work, you had already decided that he is an insane cat eating dog yet your fucking staff let us visit him Saturday and Sunday, and now we’re crazy about the guy and can’t have him and your stuck with a dog that doesn’t have a home. Fuck you. I will never put myself through this again.

  1. Wow, another unreadable, rambling block of fucking text. Go back to highschool and get some learning. Also, pitbulls are violent dogs, even if you don’t believe it is. It doesn’t matter what you think about pitbulls, or your pitbull, or what you’ve ‘researched’ on pitbulls. It may act friendly now, but just wait when a sudden random act of violence from the dog leaves you with regret.

  2. “I will never put myself through this again” – it’s not about you!!! it’s about the animals welfare first.

  3. Viego….my pitbull is 12 years old and has never showed any sign of violence. While pitbulls can be dangerous animals, not all are! However, if this one is in a shelter and it’s not a puppy, chances are it has been mistreated at some point, and could be unpredictable…it’s probably best to place this dog in a home without small children or other animals. It would be pretty sad if this dog finally got adopted, but had to be put down because it ate one of your cats for lunch a week later.

  4. Correct me if I am way off here, I am sure you will 🙂 So basically what the OP is saying is that the SPCA saved one or both of the cats and quite possibly the dog itself and that pisses them off. Selfish Ingrates. I would guess that some one at the SPCA knows animals better than the OP. I would say the have compassion for cats as well. Imagine if they did send the dog home with the OP. One or two cats get shredded by the dog. The squawking the OP would be doing then. I think this was a lose lose situation for the SPCA.Once again emotions get in the way of rationalization. Spock kicks ass.

  5. Why do you ned TWO cats and now a dangerous pit fighting dog??People can be so thick. Pets are a useless byproduct of excessive western culture. We would rather have our pets, feed them, bathe them, give them haircuts and imbecilic jackets instead of giving time and money to help end hunger or poverty in this city.People who insist on having pets and dangerous breeds of dogs as pets, in particular, have very low self-esteem. They are confused with loneliness and are apathetic towards themselves and society by extension. The SPCA is doing you a favour because it is a virtual certainty that your dog will go apeshit one day and it will tear into one of your cats mangling it all to hell and then you will rush it to the vet who will patch it back together with parts from other, lesser cats, essentially creating a hideous frankencat that will: 1) cost you an exorbitant amount of money, and; 2) make your once lovable cat a burden on you and your family and no one will want to visit you because its so ugly, it drools and you have to put drops in its eyes every half hour for the rest of its life. You will be stuck with a loose-cannon of a dog, a sickly mangled cat and a part-time evening job to help you pay for your cats surgery. Its not worth it.

  6. Optimus Prime Rib: Pets are probably more a by-product of ancient human history from the time we first started domesticating animals to do work or be food for us. Except those little dogs in sweaters that people stick in purses…those are a product of excessive western culture.

  7. this is exactly why the SPCA does sooooo many random checks. To weed out those who just “want a doggie”. You keep pressing on how you’r angry because they allowed you to have your heart set on the dog and now you “can’t have him”. You sound like a sulking child. It doesn’t sound like you are looking out for the best interest of your cats, or the dog, and it is their job to ensure dogs don’t go to such people. You say your cats aren’t stupid, they won’t jump into his mouth. I have nothing against pitbulls, i have seen a JACK RUSSELL TERRIER snap a small cats neck in one quick second. It would probably TERRIFY your cats to have a pitbull around, so what kind of pet owner are you to force them to live like that? When you got bored with the pitbull, were you going to get some other animal to entertain yourself?Being a responsible pet owner is like being a parent. Until that pet dies, you ALWAYS have to do what’s best for it, whether it displeases you or not. If you don’t like that, don’t get a pet.

  8. Dogs and cats are natural enemies. As such, when you are gone and the cats piss the dog off he probably would snap and kill them for spite. You were not there to raise the dog so you do not know it’s mood swings. You do not know it’s temperment. It is at the SPCA, meaning it was either abandoned or abused. As such the dog doesn’t have that much of a stable ground and it needs to slowly be introduced to those other elements not just plopped into an enviroment with strange enemies or people invading it’s teretory. You have two cats, you should not have an adult dog. You have to train the dog that cats are acceptible and part of the family. The adult would not follow but the puppy might. You failed as an animal owner to understand the laws of nature.
