I know Pine Street in Dartmouth is a way to avoid traffic, and it’s on a hill. But please, slow down. Cars race down here like race drivers getting close to the finish line. You wouldn’t want someone racing through your neighborhood, would you? I’m going to start taking pics of license plates zooming through and posting them.

We have babies here, cats, dogs, children playing. Be nice, okay? —Pine street home owner

  1. Really makes you wish they sold spike belts at certain big box retail stores, doesn’t it?

  2. I was gonna say: spike strip. Maybe make your own? There’s probably a how-to website.

  3. get 3 or 4 2×4’s, add 4 inch spikes, throw out in front of offending cars. rest will be history.(p.s., do at night, and wear all black).

  4. Geeze, call your local police detachment and ask them to pay better attention to your neighbourhood. It can’t hurt to have license numbers but just make the call.

Home-made spike belts *rolls eyes* I’m so glad I don’t live among you FREAKS anymore.

  5. Spike belt fantasizing aside, Pine Street is one of the best parts of my powerwalk workout route. Bitchin’ uphill action!

  6. BTW OP: Street racing is common on all streets. My street feels like the Indy 500 sometimes. I bet if spike belts were legal lots of people would own a set. Nationally, not just provincially.

  7. I like the spike strip idea, but it’s too much work. Just call the police and tell them the offending speeders are endangering your childrens’ lives.

  8. You mean the speed limit is 50km/hr ?
Best way to slow them down is as follows :
    1) Stand on the sidewalk
    2) Watch for the speed nut
    3) Take one step out and stop
    4) Hold your hand out as if you wanted to cross
    5) Stay in that pose until the car slows down
    6) Have a bag of peaches handy
    7) You don’t need me to tell you what to do with the peaches…
